Does Age of Ultron occur on Earth-616? I'm thinking the Age of Ultron is like Age of Apocalypse, involving an alternate universe implied by the "AU" in the numbers of the comics that tie into it. (And you thought "AU" meant "Age of Ultron." )

Clues? Look at She-Hulk in this issue; does that look like Jennifer Walters? And what is Emma Frost doing with the Avengers? She's supposed to be on the most-wanted list these days.

One reason it's hard to tell right away is that the reader of Age of Ultron #1 picks up the story in the middle -- a trendy storytelling device that's overdone, IMHO. Get ready for a bunch of flashbacks in future issues to clue you into what's really going on.

Don't know, advertising and the promo on YouTube said that "It isn't an alternate reality, it isn't a future, it's happening NOW!" Or something similar...

Considering future issues about Wolverine and Invisible Woman traveling to the era of Cap's kooky quartet, it seems possible that Ultron got his hands on a time machine and beat the Avengers before his first defeat. If that's the case it's a 616 temporarily transformed by time travel.
