SM&FF2 1

Story takes place during the Silver Age. There are several references that indicate this story takes place between Reed & Sue's engagement (Johnny says they're engaged) and the wedding (Reed says they won't be inviting Namor to the wedding).

The wedding takes place between ASM 28 & 29 for Spider-Man. But here, Flash and Harry are friends, Peter and Gwen have already had at least one run-in, and Peter says he's "just started" at ESU. Peter's first day at ESU is in ASM 31.

So for the FF this story takes place before ASM 29. For Spider-Man, it takes place after ASM 30. Something has to give. For right now, I'm favoring Spider-Man's chronology. The FF placement is based on some off-hand comments, while for Spider-Man, it CAN'T take place before he's met Harry or Gwen.

Thoughts?

PS: And it sounds like issue 2 further messes with everyone's chronologies.

As Paul pointed out, SM&FF2 1 references FF 40 as having happened recently, and the engagement party (which Spider-Man was at) was in FF 36. And yet, in SM&FF2 1, Spider-Man feigns ignorance about the engagement/marriage.

I dunno. Maybe Spider-Man didn't want to admit to himself that Sue was off the dating scene, maybe he and Johnny were joshing around, maybe Spider-Man had a concussion, maybe both he and Johnny were drunk.

The Spider-Man supporting cast is a stronger reference, so I agree, let's go with that.

The stuff in issue #2, if I remember right, was explained in #4? *checks real quick* Ah, the Kristoff stuff was explained in #4.

Ignoring a "meanwhile" caption (as suggested in the linked thread) isn't that big of a deal; we've done it plenty of times to make things fit.

I don't recall any problems in #3 (and it's already partially placed thanks to the Index), and #4 is a current-day tale (also already partially placed).

There's one problem with SM&FF2 2 remaining- the symbiote is recaptured at the end of the issue and Reed says that the only way it's getting out is "if someone blows up the building". The problem, of course, is that the symbiote appears in Spectacular Spider-Man 98-100 and Web of Spider-Man 1. Did Gage intend to suggest that the symbiote escaped when Kristoff blew up the Baxter Building in FF 277? The problem is that we've got FF 277 placed after Web of Spider-Man 1 (and that makes sense, since Peter talks about going to the Baxter Building in that issue). I think it would be simpler to ignore the implication of the "blows up the building" and assume that the symbiote escaped some other way.
