Any thoughts into how Original Sin will influence all this?

I've been analyzing Original Sin as it's come out, you can see the Prologue, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 so far in Issue Analysis. Don't worry, I'll do parts 4 & 5 when they come out, too. It was actually the responses to my analysis of Original Sin #1 that reminded me I wanted to take a look at this period in X-Men history. :)

Basically, the Original Sin FlashBacks have to take place between pages of Giant-Size X-Men #1, after Xavier recruits Wolverine(thanks to W: O 28) and before the All-New, All-Different X-Men take off to fight Krakoa.(thanks to Original Sin #1) This would also have to take place before Giant-Size X-Men #3, where Wolverine is training the All-New, All-Different team, before they get their fancy new X-Men uniforms. All of that fits nicely. However, as pointed out in the responses to my analysis of Wolverine: Origins #29, if the intent was for Xavier to be the cause of Wolverine's long term amnesia, that doesn't hold up. Xavier may have made Wolverine forget a few things, but Wolverine's experience in the Weapon X Project has been established numerous times as being responsible for Wolverine's memory loss.(even though he's still working for Romulus after that, as seen in W: O 28) And of course, something could happen in part 4 or 5 to throw a wrench into all of this...

I've been editing in the FlashBack sequences into my original post here, if only to keep the relevant bits in one place.

Thanks for the interest, gregorynbaker!

Re: Overhauling GSX & CX

Post by wolframbane »

ColFury had mentioned working on a full review of the events between UX 66-94. Here are the full notes from OMITTX 4. As yet, later additions (such as X:HY 1-22) have not been added.

UX 66
-The final issue of the original series. This story takes place in October of Peter Parker's sophomore year in college, sometime before the Halloween story in A 83.

H2 150 (12:2-12:5)-FB
-Havok and Iceman quarrel over Lorna Dane, which results in their leaving Professor Xavier's school. Havok sets up his research station in the southwest, while Iceman tries to take his mind off Lorna by dating other girls. This takes place a few days after UX 66.

ASM 92
-Iceman guest stars a Sam Bullit runs against Foggy Nelson for District Attorney. This places the story in late October or early November, just before Election Day. However, chronological analysis of DD and A of this period indicates that Foggy was apparently elected to the office in September (in DD 48), before the X-Men went underground. Most likely, all of Foggy's opponents dropped out by September, so it was thought he won the election by acclamation, until Bullit turned up and bought his way onto the slat a few weeks before Election Day.

A 88
-Professor X and Mr. Fantastic work on a project at Boulder Dam to render the Hulk harmless. This story occurs in early January, just before FF 105.

AA2 11-FB
-After a few months, Iceman returns to Professor Xavier's School, and shortly thereafter, Hank McCoy departs. Professor X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, the Angel and Iceman wish Hank luck at his new job with Brand Corporation. This FB begins in June or July following Peter Parker's sophomore year in college and progresses through October, when Hank transforms into his well-known furry self.

H2 150
Lorna Dane is sent by Professor X to persuade Havok to return to Westchester, and Havok battles the Hulk. Chronological analysis of the Hulk is not yet complete, but this story probably take place early in the same October as AA2 11-17.

AA2 11-13
-These stories are indexed in OMITTX 4. Professor X and Marvel Girl briefly appear in AA2 12.

M/TU 4
-Professor X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, the Angel and Iceman team up with Spider-Man against Morbius. The Beast makes a brief appearance in this story between pages 12 and 13 of AA2 14, which seems to be the only time in his AA2 stories that he gets the opportunity. Morbius is captured and placed into suspended animation at the X-Men's school, where he remains BTS for months.

AA2 14-17
-These stories are indexed in this volume. The Angel, Professor X, Marvel Girl and Cyclops appear in AA2 15.

H2 161
-Vera Cantor and the Beast arrive in Canada about a week after AA2 17, in early November. At the end of the story, the Mimic becomes the first X-Man to die.

A 111 (13:3-13:5)-FB
-Magneto breaks into the X-Men's school, knocks out the Angel, and steals back the costume that he gave to Angel when he found him in the Savage Land in UX 62. Magneto then absorbs the energy collected by the costume while the Angel was wearing it and becomes powerful enough to defeat the X-Men in a surprise attack. Shortly after this flashback, agents of the Secret Empire kidnap the debilitated Angel, they first X-Man that they capture.

A 110-111
-The Avengers discover Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman and Professor X unconscious after Magneto's surprise attack and are nearly defeated by Magneto themselves. After Magneto is taken care of, Professor X notices the Angel is gone and initiates his effort to track down the kidnappers. Chronological analysis of the Avengers at this time is not yet complete, but these stories probably happen in January. The Angel's capture is depicted in CA 174 (14:5-15:1).

CA 173 (6:4)-FB
-Professor X discovers that the Beast is missing. The Beast's capture is seen in CA 174 (15:2).

SSD 5
-Alarmed, Professor X notifies FBI agent Amos "Fred" Duncan of the missing mutants, and while Duncan and the professor warn Shanna and Jakuna Singh that the mutants Mandrill and Nekra are at large, they ask to be notified of any "odd occurrences" in the area.

AIF 20 (5:6-6:5)-FB
-Morbius escapes from Professor Xavier's School. Professor X declines to let Cyclops pursue the vampire because of more pressing mutant-vanishing problems. (Marvel Girl is BTS in this part of the FB, while Iceman is presumably on a scouting mission.)

H2 172
-Professor X, Cyclops and Marvel Girl knock out the defeated Juggernaut after his battle with the Hulk. The three X-Men are in the southwest to see Havok and Lorna Dane, as yet unaware that they have been abducted.

CA 173 (6:5-6:6)-FB and narrative in 7:1
-Professor X soon discovers that Havok and Lorna Dane are missing, and then Iceman disappears on one of the professor's scouting missions.

CA 172-175
Professor X discovers that the mutant-abductors are also behind the Committee to Regain America's Principles, and he, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Captain America, and the Falcon join forces against the Secret Empire. In CA 174, the kidnapped mutants are discovered hooked up to a machine that is siphoning away their "brain energy." The Secret Empire is defeated in CA 175 - a story in which Professor X does not appear but all the other X-Men do, at least briefly.

M/TU 23
-Iceman and the Human Torch team up against Equinox. Then Iceman, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and the Angel depart on a "secret mission." It is now May of Peter Parker's third last year of college.

GSX 1 (16-19:4)-FB
-That most secret mission noted in M/TU 23 is the journey to Krakoa in the South Pacific. The latter portions of this flashback overlap with the beginning of the story in CX 1.

DEF 15 and 16
-While the mutants are away, Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (Mastermind, Blob, Unus the Untouchable, Lorelei) attack Professor X. The Defenders aid the professor, and the evil mutants' ultimate fate is to be regressed to infancy by Alpha the Ultimate Mutant.

CX 1 (1-4)
-Cyclops returns from Krakoa and begins training himself in the use of his strengthened eye-beam.

GSX 1
-Professor X locates and inducts eight new mutants into the X-Men for the rescue mission to Krakoa.

CX 1 (19-32)
-The evening after the successful conclusion of the Krakoa mission.

UX 94 (1-6)
-The morning after that, when Alex Summers, Lorna Dane, Bobby Drake, Jean Grey and Warren Worthington leave the X-Men.

UX 94 (7) and CX 2 (7-8)
-The new X-Men's training period, astonishingly enough, lasts not just for weeks but for fifteen months, including the winter seen in ASM 143 and 144, M/TIO 8, M/TU 32 and GSDEF 4.

CX 2/2
-Storm visits Jean Grey in her new apartment. This takes place during the summer that follows Jean's departure from the team, while the new X-Men are in training.

GSFF 4
Professor X and the Fantastic Four encounter Jamie Madrox. This tory takes place during the Autumn following the above summer, while the X-Men are in training. It was incorrectly reported in OMITTFF 9 as happening between UX 95-96, but it actually happens during UX 94 (7), and the entries for FF 157 and GSFF 4 should be corrected.

T 233
-Cyclops is one of several heroes enclosed in a force field by Loki. T 234 is said to happen in "Winter," even thought the trees are drawn with green leaves. If this is correct, this would be winter of the new X-Men's training period.

CA 183
-The Beast appears, shortly before his appearance in A 137. See OMITTA for further Beast appearances.

CX 3/2 (6:4-7:5)-FB
-Nightcrawler and Colossus talk with Thunderbird during a workout. This may take place in the spring after he winter that passes while the X-Men are in training.

CX 3/2 (8:5-9)-FB
-Storm talks with Thunderbird after hours. This probably takes place in the summer before the battle against Count Nefaria (Ororo's flowers are in full bloom).

UX 94 (8)
-Thunderbird is injured during a workout.

CX 2 (10-12)
-Professor X confer with Cyclops about Thunderbird and telegraphs Moira MacTaggart. Storm saves Thunderbird from a bad fall.

UX 94 (9-18) and UX 95
-The battle against Count Nefaria, in early September of Peter Parker's final year as an undergraduate. Thunderbird dies.

CX 3/2
James Proudstar steals his brother's body. It is two or three days after the battle against Nefaria.

UX 96
-The story opens in late September.

CX 8/2 (1-4)
-Cyclops struggles but the X-Men retain him. Meanwhile, Jean pilots the shuttle and is belted with radiation.
XMF 3
-Jean pulls some hair from her scalp, she’s dying from radiation poisoning.
CX 8/2 (5-12)
-Jean is contacted by a cosmic force. It’s interested in human existence and strikes a deal with her. It puts her into an energy cocoon to heal her, and it takes her place, having cloned her body. It’s the Phoenix, and it will live as Jean Grey.
I think there is some alternative/extra dialogue in the FF 286 telepathic flashback sequences on pages 24-26 that fit in here don't they?

Indeed. I pulled out the issues and edited them into the post above. Thanks, metaldragon!

UX 116-121 & CX 22-27

Post by Col_Fury »

UX 116 (1-7:3)
-Ka-Zar and the X-Men search for the source of the snow and find a city. They’re attacked by dinosaurs and they’re separated.
CX 22 (7:4-8:3)
-Wolverine, Storm, & Nightcrawler go looking around.
UX 116 (7:4-17:5)
-The X-Men regroup and save the day.

*

UX 117 (1-17)
-As the X-Men make their way home, Phoenix, Lilandra, & Xavier chat about the Shadow King.
CX 23 (18)
-The X-Men chill out on a boat as they head home.
CX 23/2-FB
-Nightcrawler & Storm chat. Later, Nightcrawler saves a lady who’s fallen off the boat but they’re caught in the ocean.
CX 23/2
-Nightcrawler wakes up on an island and finds the lady.

*

UX 125 (4:2-4:4)-FB
-Phoenix leaves for vacation.
UX 125 (8:4)-FB
-Phoenix chats with Mastermind in disguise.
UX 118 (1-6)
-The X-Men arrive in Japan. Meanwhile in space, Xavier & Lilandra smooch.
CX 24/2 (1-2)
-Phoenix arrives on vacation.
CX 24 (7:1-7:6)
-Phoenix on vacation.
CX 24 (7:7) ~ CX 24/2 (3:1-3:3)
-Phoenix meets a new man.
CX 24/2 (3:4-12:4)
-That new man turns out to be Mastermind.
UX 125 (8:5)-FB
-Phoenix & Mastermind chill out.
UX 118 (7-18)
-The X-Men meet Sunfire and go to his place. Cyclops tries to call home, but the phones have been shut off. Wolverine meets Mariko, the X-Men have an adventure, and Moses Magnum arrives.
(currently, Phoenix & Mastermind are listed BTS for UX 118. As far as I can see they have no impact on the story so I’ll suggest they be deleted)

*

UX 119 (1-11)
-The X-Men fight Moses Magnum.
CX 25 (12-13)-FB
-Moses Magnum meets Apocalypse.
UX 119 (12-13)
-The X-Men beat Moses Magnum but Banshee is injured.
CX 25 (16)
-The X-Men wait in the hospital while Banshee recuperates.
UX 119 (14-17)
-Banshee is released from the hospital. Meanwhile, Phoenix arrives at Muir Island.

*

UX 120 (1-2)
-Vindicator talks about the X-Men with the Prime Minister.
CX 26 (3-5)
-Vindicator studies up on the X-Men, then calls his wife Heather. Meanwhile, Phoenix hangs out on Muir Island.
UX 120 (3-17)
-The X-Men leave Japan and arrive in Canada, where they’re attacked by Alpha Flight. Wolverine is captured.

*

UX 121 (3:5)-FB
-Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, & Banshee set about to look for Wolverine.
UX 121 (1-3)
- Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, & Banshee look for Wolverine.
CX 27 (4)
-Jeryn Hogarth(of Iron Fist fame!) tries legal maneuvering to get Alpha Flight off the X-Men’s backs.
UX 121 (4-10)
-The X-Men find Wolverine and Alpha Flight.
CX 27 (12)
-Jeryn tries some more and the Prime Minister is called.
UX 121 (11-17)
-The X-Men head home.(finally!)
CX 27 (20)
-Alpha Flight cleans up, Vindicator is told by the Prime Minister that Wolverine is no longer a priority.

And that’s it for new material in Classic X-Men. There are still backup strips through issue 44, but 27 was the last issue to have new material inserted into the reprinted material.

As long as I'm here, there's a typo with CX 32/2. It's currently listed as just CX 32, and since it occurs between pages of UX 126...

Re: Overhauling GSX & CX

H2 161
-Vera Cantor and the Beast arrive in Canada about a week after AA2 17, in early November. At the end of the story, the Mimic becomes the first X-Man to die.
This statement has 2 problems. 1- The first X-Man to die was actually Changeling. 2- The Mimic didn't stay dead for very long as we find out in Marvel Comics Presents #59! *brickwall*

This seems as good a place as any to mention this :)

Fred Van Lente: You KNOW there will be Alpha Flight on FCBD. ;)
Fred Van Lente: The story takes place before “Incredible Hulk #181″.
Fred Van Lente: In fact, it’s about how James MacDonald Hudson arranges for Wolvie to get the anti-Wendigo mission in the first place.
Fred Van Lente: But is that the only Flight reference?
Fred Van Lente: Canucks and fellow travelers will have to wait ’til May to find out…
taimur: Of course ;)
