How much "Marvel time" passed between UX #66 and GSX #1

Post by templedog1972 »

Can someone please help me with this beccause I am sure I have asked this before. How much "Marvel time" passed between UX #66 and GSX #1? This is the hardest period for me to pin down. In my attempted chronology I have the span lasting for a number of years.

Well, according to the X-Men Index and Marvel Calendar, UX 66 occurs in October (YEAR 5), GSX 1 in late May (YEAR 8) and UX 94 in August (YEAR 9).

I have *never* liked the notion that the X-Men trained for fifteen months between GSX #1 and UX #94.

Well, I only found out recently, but entirely with you on that one.

Yeah, same here. BUT, since GSX 1-FB is no longer attached to DEF 15 & 16 thanks to Deadly Genesis 4-FB, maybe GSX 1 can be moved up a bit in relation to the rest of the Marvel Universe, shortening the span of time between GSX 1 & UX 94?

Maybe the new Index will tackle that topic.

UX 138 has Cyclops stating that the X-Men trained only a month passed between GSX 1 and the main story of UX 94.

Yes, let's finally reduce that 15-month gap in GSX 1 established by Official Marvel Index to the X-Men, Vol. 1 #4. I'm not sure that there necessarily needs to be a divorce between DEF 15-16 and GSX 1, though. I've thought about putting GSX 1 and UX 94 (1-7), along with X:DG flashbacks et al, around the time of DEF 15-16 in late May of Year 8 and picking up with page 8 of UX 94 in early September of Year 9, with the intervening months involving the new X-Men's training period after Krakoa. (This would involve an abandonment of the accelerated training technique experienced by Vulcan and his teammates -- perhaps with good reason.)

(Selaboc, Hidden Years goes well before this whole period.)

Selaboc was answering the original question, though.

Ah. That's what I get for assuming each reply is a response to the previous post. *doh*

I checked DEF 15. Xavier tells the Defenders that the X-Men are on a "secret mission," and an editor's note references M/TU 23 (late May of Year 8), not GSX 1. I think the Index reinterpreted the "secret mission." If we go back to the original intention, then we're free to move GSX 1 later in time, closer to the September Year 9 of most of UX 94.

However, what about Cyclops' appearance in T 233 (December of Year 8)? I don't have that issue. Does it make sense for him to be in T 233 before or after the formation of the new X-Men?

Tiny, tiny one-panel cameo, apparently:
Cyclops has a one panel cameo, you can just tell that it's him, hence camette. It's really not enough of an app. to be a proper cameo, but yes Cyclops is in Thor #233, Don't blink!
As such, whether it's before or after is pretty irrelevant.

Can we see Cyclops' visor in T 233? Didn't Xavier have to change it in GSX 1?

If the character over the Vision's head (7p3) is Cyclops, then he's got a simple, cigar shape across his eyes.
