Was Baron Strucker in X-Men Alpha Flight an LMD?

Post by Michael » Tue Jan 27, 2009 3:32 pm

In the second X-Men-Alpha Flight series, Baron Strucker appears. Unfortunately, Strucker was "dead" at this time. The Marvel Appendix lists the Strucker in that series as an LMD. We have it listed as the real Strucker. Should it be changed to an LMD?

We don't make changes based on other websites. If the Official Handbook or Index say so, then we'll see.

Yeah, I know, but in this case, Strucker's appearance is impossible. He was "dead" at the time.

Michael:

Surely you are asking the wrong question in the wrong place. To find out why the guys at the Appendix wrote that, probably you should shoot them an email and ask what they base it on. If they can point out a canonical place where this information was revealed, then the theory of Strucker-as-LMD gains credibility.

It would certainly be nice if somebody with authority explained how Strucker could be running about just then, the story as it stands doesn't make sense for his chronology...

I just got an email from Jeff Christiansen at the Marvel Appendix. He claims that he's "pretty sure" Strucker's being an LMD was referenced in Strucker's Offical Handbook entry.

The All New Official Handbook #1, lists several robotic duplicates of Strucker

One robot made by Machinesmith, encountered by Captain America and SHIELD
An LMD that was defeated by Captain America, Nic Fury and the former Howlers
An LMD that tricked Department H into selling the battlesuit used by Guardian to Hydra
And, of course, the Deltite LMD from the Nick Fury vs. SHIELD mini
Only three weeks on the job and already I live for seeing his forehead turn that shade of pink.

That third one is the one that appears in this series. So, are we agreed that Strucker's entry should be changed?

I would say that there should be a change to Strucker's entry.

The real Stricker is at that point of time dead.

And there were other robots and LMD's of Strucker running around, so this one would most likely also be a robotic double.
It would seem to be the most logical solution.

Fury#1 indicates that Strucker knew about Zola's mind transference to back-up clone process in the 1940's. (Of course, the Fear Itself GN did the same for Baron Zemo, establishing from the testimony of an Axis soldier, as reported by Silver Sable, that Der Fuehrer informed Zemo of Zola's process ; but the Baroness' claim in Fear Itself to represent the transgendered reincarnation of Baron Zemo later saw her refute it.) That said, we can go with the Handbook explanation that a Baron Strucker LMD appeared in that mini-series.

I meant to posit that for someone who knew about Arnim Zola's process of transferring one's mind into a back-up clone body in case of death (as Fury#1 shows that Baron Strucker did since the 1940's), that person appearing during a period when thought dead by the authorities does not present much of a problem. However, I would just go with the Handbook explanation for now (i.e. that an LMD appeared in that Alpha Flight mini-series).

That didn't come across to me at all.

I thought you were saying that it really was Baron Strucker, albeit in a clone body, and NOT an LMD, even though the Handbook says otherwise.
