Classic X-Men #19/2

Post by Kevin W. »

In CX #19/2, Magneto is working with a spy organization to take down Nazi's. Is the "Control" that Magneto's referring to in that issue the name (codename?) of the guy who betrays him there at the end, or is "Control" the name of the organization? If not, what IS the name of the organization he's working for?

Also, Magneto single-handidly defeats a Nazi refuge base in South America, but mentions that it's part of "Odessa - the underground spy and mercensary network run by and for you renegade, fugitive Nazi's"

Is this the only appearance for this "Odessa" organization, or is it seen or heard from again?

ODESSA (Organisation der ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen) is a real-life thing, an organization that reportedly acted as a sort of "underground railroad" (for massive want of better terminology) for Nazi SS officers seeking escape from capture and trial for war crimes after the fall of the Third Reich in 1946.

The outfit Magneto was working for in the story was never named, and Control (I believe) was the alias of Magneto's contact, not the organization itself.

Fascinating, and also very helpful.

Thanks, Chris!
