Avengers (1963 series) #145 and 146

Post by Darci »

Per Tony Isabella at http://www.worldfamouscomics.com/tony/b ... 0113.shtml :
"When my story was rescheduled for two regular-sized issues of The Avengers, I had to write three new pages to fill out the required page count. I've never been happy with those new pages. No one at the office could tell me who would be in the new Avengers roster. So I went with the heroes I thought might gather together to give each other comfort and support in this time of crisis. It just created more problems for the continuity buffs, as did the big ugly caption on the first of the three new pages in which someone in editorial went out of their way to draw reader attention to the situation. We would have been far better off with a small caption explaining that this adventure took place before Englehart's then-current story. Hindsight, you are a cruel mistress."

So, for example, in http://www.chronologyproject.com/capa.htm
A 141
A 142
A 143
A 144
A 147
A 148
A 149
CA@ 3
A 145
A 146
would be changed to:
http://www.chronologyproject.com/capa.htm
A 145
A 146
A 141
A 142
A 143
A 144
A 147
A 148
A 149
CA@ 3

Hope this helps,
Darci

Hi, Darci. Thanks for posting about A 145-146.

We would use the chronology you suggest if we used Tony Isabella's interview as a resource and interpreted the "would have been better off" comment as Marvel's official intention. However, the official word from Marvel, as reflected in all previously published Official Marvel Indexes, is that A 145-146 occurs after CA@ 3, which follows A 149. Official Marvel Index to the Avengers, Vol. 1 #7 explains the sequencing issue and does note that the two-issue story originally was slated for GSA 5.
