Siege timeline

Post by Spider-Man »

Does anyone have a timeline of Siege, like when all of the crossovers and tie-in books are supposed to take place? So far I've been unable to find one anywhere.

Cool, thanks! I've been very confused by some of the Siege one-shots, it seemed really unclear whether they were supposed to take place before or after Siege #3...

Here's my edited chronological page/panel breakdown of SIEGE. Thanks to Spider-Man for setting me straight on some of this:

NEW AVENGERS #63 – FB (13-18)
One “morning.” At “4:43" AM, Bobbi awakens from a dream, suits up as Mockingbird, and goes out. Ronin follows her, and after encountering Spidey, they see Lady Octopus breaking into an office and defeat her. Clint tells Bobbi that they can start fresh after Osborn’s defeated.
NEW AVENGERS #63 – FB (5-9:1)
The same day as A4 63-FB (13-18). Cage and Jessica Jones spend time with their baby and talk about their responsibilities.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #24 (24-26)
The day (“twenty-four hours”) after IM5 24 (1-23). This segment must occur before SIEGE 1 (11-23) and RESC 1. In Broxton, Strange lies in a hospital bed recovering from his injuries. Captain America shows up to discover that Stark has already left and that Stark has no memories of the Civil War or events thereafter because the “backup mind” he’s using is outdated. As Hill and Pepper look on, Stark gets caught up on recent news and is horrified.
SIEGE #1 (1-6)
One night during football season. This segment probably occurs the same night as IM5 24 (24-26) and must occur after A:INIT 31 (19-22) and “soon” after TB 140. Loki and Osborn observe Volstagg stop robbers in Chicago and set their plan for an incident in motion. Osborn sends the U-Foes to attack Volstagg and at 7:25 CST,” Volstagg deflects a blow that causes a huge explosion in Soldier Field.
THOR #607 (1)
The same night as SIEGE 1 (1-6). An explosion erupts behind Volstagg in Soldier Field.
SIEGE #1 (7-10)
The same night as T 607 (1). The explosion kills many people, and Loki wishes Osborn well in the siege of Asgard to follow.
Osborn tells Hand to assemble the Avengers and convinces Ares to join in an invasion of Asgard, which he says is controlled by Loki. Osborn tells the Dark Avengers (Sentry, Moonstone, Bullseye, Venom, Daken) that if they invade Asgard, their obligations to him are done.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #1 (1-3)
The same night as SIEGE 1 (1-10). Conservative TV host Todd Keller rails against the government’s inability to prevent the Chicago tragedy “today.” Representing Osborn, HAMMER agent Abrams offers Keller an opportunity.

RESCUE #1
Probably the day after IM5 24 (24-26), since Pepper is no longer in a hospital gown and is out of her wheelchair; this probably occurs the morning between the Chicago tragedy and the Siege of Asgard. While “on the lam” in a school basement in Broxton, Pepper has a moment of affirmation as she converses with a vision of Happy Hogan.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #1 (4-22)
The early morning after SIEGE:E 1 (1-3). Having arrived in Chicago to cover the tragedy, Ben Urich encounters an old friend, cameraman Will Stern, who gets him to the disaster scene after Urich is prevented from entering. There they see the Dark Avengers (Osborn, Moonstone, Sentry, Daken, Venom, Bullseye) rescuing survivors, and Urich answers a text message from Sally Floyd. Aboard the HAMMER helicarrier, Abrams tells Keller he’s expected to tell America how Osborn saved the day. As Urich and Stern discuss the disaster at a diner, they see Volstagg pass by and bribe him with hamburgers for an interview. As dawn breaks, Volstagg tells the pair that he plans to walk back to Asgard to face punishment for his mishap. Upon seeing military and news vans heading to the airport, Urich is convinced the true story is in Oklahoma because he suspects Osborn will invade Asgard. Stern, Urich, and Volstagg get in Stern’s van and head for Oklahoma. Green grass and trees in Chicago.
THOR #607 (2-7)
The same early morning as SIEGE:E 1 (4-22). At “10.5 hours to Ragnarok,” Word reaches Asgard of the Chicago tragedy, and Balder, Tyr, and the visiting Hogun and Fandral respond to the news. Knut foresees the destruction of Asgard “tomorrow,” but Heimdall senses no threat. Loki appears and dismisses Knut’s clairvoyance as the ravings of a lunatic. Loki escorts Knut to his chamber, where, at “midnight” (local time), Loki kills Knut.
SIEGE #2/2
It must be the same early morning as T 607 (2-7). Fury calls the Secret Warriors together to tell them they’re joining Cap in taking down Osborn in Oklahoma. He instructs them to follow orders.
NEW AVENGERS #61
The same early morning as SIEGE 2/2. This story cannot occur the same night as NA@3; it must take some time for Cap and Bucky to get around to checking on the destroyed old Avengers Hideout. Hood shows the Norn Stones to his gang, including Madame Masque, Thunderball, Piledriver, Blackout, Scarecrow, Blood Brother, Mandrill, Razorfist, Corruptor, Brothers Grimm, Scorcher, Deathwatch, Answer, Crossfire, Griffin, Lightwave, Chemistro, and Tombstone. Steve Rogers and Bucky Cap survey the destruction of Avengers Hideout, which was Rogers’ home. Living Laser, Corruptor, and HAMMER agents attack them. Steve rummages through the rubble and finds his virtual shield, which he uses to fight back. Corruptor tries to get Bucky Cap to kill Rogers, but he’s defeated. Living Laser unleashes his power on Rogers and Bucky Cap. Spidey and Spider-Woman chat and see a lot of activity around Avengers Tower (presumably HAMMER gearing up for the assault on Asgard). Griffin and Mandrill find the pair and attack. Mandrill takes control of Spider-Woman.
NEW AVENGERS #62 (1-18)
The same early morning as A4 61. This segment must occur after SWARRIORS 13. Cage’s surprise at seeing Steve alive doesn’t make any sense, since he saw Steve in NA@ 3. Mandrill and Griffin watch Spider-Woman battle Spidey. Cage, all better now, shows up at Avengers Hideout to retrieve his baby’s pacifier and helps Steve and Bucky Cap defeat Living Laser. Cage notices Steve in civvies and does a double-take. Spider-Woman breaks free of Mandrill’s control and helps Spidey defeat Mandrill and Griffin. Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors (minus Druid) show up at the hideout and join Steve, Bucky, and Cage in fighting a platoon of HAMMER soldiers.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #2 (1-5)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 1 (4-22) and thus the same morning as A4 62 (1-18). Urich, Stern, and Volstagg make a pit stop in Missouri, where they see a televised broadcast by Osborn-booster Keller.
SIEGE #1/2
The same morning as SIEGE:E 2 (1-5). Osborn and Hand meet with the Dark Avengers and Taskmaster to give them their marching orders for the attack on Asgard.
DARK WOLVERINE #82 (1-13)
The same morning as SIEGE 1/2. HAMMER forces gather at the Helicarrier “two hours” before the siege of Asgard. Daken taunts and beats a HAMMER soldier. Venom makes a pass at Karla. Osborn addresses the gathered troops and the Dark Avengers, and Daken tries to goad him. Fates observe from afar and label Daken as “the bringer of Ragnarok.” Daken and Bullseye have a pissing match. Osborn notes that they leave “in nine minutes.”
SIEGE #1 (11-12)
The same morning as W3 82 (1-13). This segment must occur after IM5 24 (24-26). Ares rallies an army comprised of Dark Avengers and the Initiative, including Force of Nature (Sunstreak, Aqueduct, Skybreaker), the Women Warriors (Quicksand, Asp, Black Mamba, Diamondback, Skein), the U-Foes (Ironclad, Vector, Vapor, X-Ray), and Psionex (Coronary, Pretty Persuasions, Mathemaniac, Asylum, Impulse). Hand notifies the president of the impending invasion of Asgard, and the president orders her to have Osborn stand down to no avail.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #32 – FB (5-7)
The same morning as SIEGE 1 (11-12). This flashback occurs at least “a few days” after A:INIT 31 (19-22). Heading for Oklahoma aboard the HAMMER Helicarrier are Moonstone, Venom, Daken, Force of Nature, the U-Foes, Constrictor, Taskmaster, the Women Warriors, Bullseye, Sentry, and Osborn. Constrictor talks about the Asgard mission with Diamondback, then Taskmaster.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #2 (6-22)
The same morning as A:INIT 32-FB (5-7). During his live coverage in Oklahoma City, Keller gets a visit from Iron Patriot, who he discovers off-camera is a robot. As HAMMER grounds troops gather for the invasion of Asgard, Keller learns that he’s part of an Osborn-orchestrated media effort. In Chandler, Oklahoma, HAMMER forces detect Volstagg with Urich and Stern. They attack, and while Volstagg fights them off, Urich and Stern are arrested. The pair find themselves at Tinker Air Force Base, where they escape.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #3 (1-18)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 2 (6-22). Urich and Stern flee from soldiers at Tinker Air Force Base and Urich boards a plane of accepted reporters heading into the war zone. He sees Osborn’s forces (including Daken, Bullseye, and Sentry) headed there too. Venom busts into their plane and attacks the civilians inside. The craft crashes, and Urich finds Keller among the wreckage. Keller threatens the him to help him set up a connection to the network so he can spread more Osborn propaganda.
THUNDERBOLTS #141 (1-5)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 3 (1-18). This segment must occur shortly after TB 140, since Osborn doesn’t know about Headsman’s death. Ant-Man, Paladin, Grizzly, Mr. X, and Scourge board the Zeus for a mission given by Osborn in a pre-recorded message. They are to steal the Spear of Odin from Asgard as Osborn and his troops are engaged in an assault on the city in retaliation for the Chicago massacre.
THOR #607 (8-13)
The same morning as TB 141 (1-5). At “4.5 hours to Ragnarok,” Loki awakens Heimdall, who sees Osborn’s approaching forces, and traps Heimdall so he can warn no one. At “4 hours to Ragnarok,” Kelda arrives at Bill’s home in Broxton and informs his parents of his death. At “1 hour to Ragnarok” (although Heimdall says “it is still not morn”), Heimdall detects the Sentry and cannot alert anyone. “Under 1 hour to Ragnarok,” as Osborn’s forces approach Asgard, Tyr finds the murdered Knut. Green grass and trees in Oklahoma.
SIEGE #1 (13-17)
The same morning as T 607 (8-13). Loki “warns” Balder of the mortals’ plan to invade Asgard just before Osborn’s forces strike. The Asgardians rush out to meet the invaders in battle.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #32 – FB (13-16)
The same morning as SIEGE 1 (13-18). Night Thrasher, Tigra, Justice, and Ultragirl see TV news coverage of the Soldier Field tragedy of “yesterday.” Knowing about the deposits in the U-Foes’ bank accounts, they conclude that Osborn staged his own Stamford. Seeing live news coverage of the invasion of Asgard, they discover the reason. Vance has Ultragirl round up the other Avengers Resistance members, tells Tigra to contact other underground Avengers to help the Asgardians, and has Donyell e-mail info on Osborn’s payoffs to news outlets. He resolves to shut down Camp HAMMER while the Initiative is in Oklahoma.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #32 – FB (8-12)
The same day as A:INIT 32-FB (13-16). This segment must occur after SIF 1 (22). Taskmaster takes in the carnage as Heimdall, Sif, and other Asgardians battle Ares, Osborn, Moonstone, Sentry, Bullseye, Sunstreak, Diamondback, Constrictor, Venom, Daken, Quicksand, and HAMMER agents. Taskmaster attacks a couple of Asgardians.
SIEGE #1 (18-19)
The same day as A:INIT 32-FB (8-12). In Broxton, Don Blake tends to the recovering Tony Stark and sees the attack on Asgard. He rushes off. And turns into Thor. Osborn sees the thunder and braces for Thor’s arrival.
DARK WOLVERINE #82 (14-23)
The same day as SIEGE 1 (18-19). The Dark Avengers (Ares, Moonstone, Venom, Daken, Bullseye) battle Balder, Tyr, Sif, Fandral, and other Asgardians. Daken wanders off and offers to give an Asgardian Osborn’s head on a platter, but Osborn kills the Asgardian. Daken imagines himself stabbing Osborn in the back as the Fates look on.
DARK WOLVERINE #83 (1-4:4)
The same day as W3 82 (14-23). Daken imagines the Fates bowing to him before Osborn snaps him out of his reverie and tells him to get his head in the game. Osborn flies off.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #32 – FB (17-18)
The same day as W3 82 (14-15). As Taskmaster goes on the offensive, Constrictor tries to protect Diamondback, who tries to reach Tigra. All three see Thor arrive.

The same day as SIEGE 1 (21-22). Osborn and company continue to attack Thor en masse and they bring him down as Diamondback and Taskmaster arrive on the scene.
NEW AVENGERS #62 (19-22)
The same day as A:INIT 32 (20-22). Steve, Bucky, Cage, Fury, and the Secret Warriors report to the new Avengers Safehouse, where Jessica and Ms. Marvel are amazed to see Steve back, which makes no sense, given that they saw Steve in NA@ 3. The celebration is interrupted by a live news report that Osborn and his Avengers have taken down Thor in Broxton. Spidey and Spider-Woman join the group and Steve calls for the Avengers to assemble.
SIEGE #1 (22:6-23)
The same day as A4 62 (19-22). At (the new) Avengers Hideout, Captain America, now suited up, sees TV coverage of Thor’s downfall. Green grass in Oklahoma and green grass and trees in Washington, DC.

The same day as T 607 (14-18). Ace and Blackjack arrive at Infinite Avengers Mansion to revoke Pym’s GRAMPA status, while elsewhere in the mansion, Ultron gathers an army of Jocastas under his control. Pym learns about the “Asgard business” going on and gets a call from Captain America, who wants Pym to join the forces he’s gathering to head to Broxton “within the hour.” The GRAMPA agents are surprised that Cap’s alive. Pym turns Cap down and Jarvis tenders his resignation. When Pym hooks “his” Jocasta back up to the Mansion’s main systems, she discovers that Ultron’s present. Ultron sets his army of Jocastas against Pym, Ace, and Blackjack.
THUNDERBOLTS #141 (6-9:2)
The same day as MA 35 (1-14). This segment must occur shortly after IM5 24 (1-23). Having been defeated by Stark, Ghost’s teleporting (which may have lasted for days) lands him in Asgard. The Ghost learns about the Chicago incident and the Thunderbolts’ mission and sends the mission specs out electronically, hoping someone will react. The signal reaches Amadeus Cho, who relays a distress signal to his fellow Mighty Avengers. Green grass and trees and long sleeve weather in Central Park.

Hood orders Razorfist to get all his guys to fight the heroes and to keep possible Initiative traitors confined. In Broxton, Osborn, Moonstone, the U-Foes, Taskmaster, and Diamondback stand over the defeated Thor, and Osborn reprimands Taskmaster for being there. Taskmaster takes off but Osborn orders Diamondback to stay. Taskmaster fights Fandral and Hogun. Green trees at Camp HAMMER.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #33 (17-22)
The same day as A:INIT 33 (3-8). This segment probably occurs before the segments on pages 8-16. The Avengers Resistance rout the Initiative villains at Camp HAMMER and Scarlet Spider shuts down the camp’s systems. The Hood appears and counterattacks. The same day as DA 16-FB (12-14), since it is the day after SIEGE 4 (24:5-24:7). Thor returns to the ruins of Asgard and meets up with Balder, Heimdall, and Tyr. Balder pardons Thor and offers to relinquish the throne to him, but Thor encourages Balder to remain as king and offers to be his counsel. Kelda spies Bill in Valhalla. Ragnarok emerges from Asgard’s ruins and pummels the Warriors Three. Thor fights and destroys Ragnarok.
SIEGE #4 (25)
The same day as T 610. Steve Rogers (now wearing a plain uniform) appears before the president at the White House. The president asks Rogers to be Osborn’s replacement as top cop, and Rogers insists on doing things his way. Green grass and trees in Washington, DC.
DARK AVENGERS #16 (1)
The same day as SIEGE 4 (25). Following the president’s request, Rogers shows up at Ryker’s Island Penitentiary to oversee Osborn’s incarceration.
DARK AVENGERS #16 (15-21)
The same day as DA 16 (1). At Ryker’s, Rogers interrogates Victoria Hand, then offers her a job that she’ll start on “Monday” after she has a chance to “take a long weekend.” Thor and Iron Man escort Osborn to his cell, where he gives a manifesto about the rightness of his actions. Then his madness starts to take hold of him.
NEW AVENGERS: FINALE #1 (40-60)
The same day as DA 16 (15-21). This segment occurs before AOH 1/2. The word goes out that the Super Human Registration Act is thrown out and that Cap is the new top cop. The New Avengers gather at Avengers Tower, where Rogers tells them that they’re all free. The team wonders what they’ll do now. Cage ruminates on the team’s mission, and the team knows they won when the take a stroll through the park in their civilian identities. Green grass and trees in New York.
AMERICAN SON #1 (1-2)
The night of the day after A4 64 (21-22). A government worker drives items seized from Osborn’s labs away from Avengers Tower. He sells the material, including the American Son armor, to a mysterious man who intends to adopt the identity of American Son.

AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #35 (16-18)
Perhaps the day after NA:F 1 (40-60). This segment occurs “days” after A:INIT 35 (12-15). At a classified holding facility, Tigra visits the captive Hood. She unleashes a verbal assault on the villain but does not kill him because, seeing the Hood’s wife and baby in the hall, she’s reminded that she needs to be free to raise her own baby.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #4 – FB (20)
Perhaps the same day as A:INIT 35 (16-18). Will Stern and Ben Urich work at Front Line. Todd Keller raves about Steve Rogers. Volstagg helps with the clean-up in Oklahoma.

SIEGE #4 (26-30)
Perhaps the day after SIEGE:E 4-FB (20). This segment occurs before WOSM2 8. Tony Stark throws a party at Avengers Tower for the victorious heroes. Present are Patriot, Hawkeye, Speed, Wolverine, Ronin, Spidey, Jarvis, Human Torch, Ms. Marvel, Thing, Bucky Cap, Stonewall, Wiccan, Invisible Woman, Iron Fist, Pepper Potts, Maria Hill, Cage, Jessica Jones (and baby), Mr. Fantastic, Spider-Woman, and Daredevil. Thor shows up with Balder, Heimdall, Sif, and the Warriors Three. As a token of gratitude and allegiance, the Asgardians connect the Rainbow Bridge to Avengers Tower, creating an Asgardian tower to replace the Watchtower. Thor offers to become an Avenger again, and Rogers tells the group he has plans for them.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #4 – FB (21-22)
The same day as SIEGE 4 (26-30). Urich walks the streets of New York and with the crowd notices the appearance of the Rainbow Bridge over Avengers Tower.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #35 (19-22)
The same day as SIEGE:E 4-FB (21-22). Spidey probably appears here before AS 1 (10-22) and AS 1/2 (1-2). Because of Daken’s chronology, Logan must appear here before W:O 46 (1-20). Justice, Ultragirl, Rage, Slapstick, Night Thrasher, Cloud 9, Scarlet Spider, Komodo, and Hardball attend Stark’s party at Avengers Tower. Also shown are Jarvis, Logan, Spidey, Thing, Cage, Bucky Cap, Stark, and Hill. Tigra arrives and shows off her baby son, William. Rogers offers Diamondback the job of coordinating the Fifty State Initiative, and Rachel says she’ll think about it. In Japan, Taskmaster and Constrictor make a shady deal, and Frank thinks about Rachel. Bengal opens a martial arts school, the exonerated Prodigy works as a motivational speaker, Trauma has disappeared, Debrii is a TV talent judge, and Butterball and Batwing start a super-team in North Carolina to replace the U-Foes.

SIEGE: EMBEDDED #4 (19)
Perhaps the day after A:INIT 35 (19-22). Urich visits his wife’s grave and explains his optimism in the new heroic age. Green grass and trees in New York.
SENTRY: FALLEN SUN #1
Perhaps the same day as SIEGE:E 4 (19). This story probably occurs before WOSM2 8 (1-12), A4 1, and AOH 1. Steve Rogers, Daredevil, Rogue, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Tony Stark, the Fantastic Four, Scout, and Cloc attend a memorial for Bob and Lindy Reynolds at their grave site. Thor visits Bob Reynolds’ mother to give her the news of her son’s passing. Cloc gives Reed Bob’s diary and tells him he will rebuild the Watchtower in anticipation of the Sentry’s return. The heroes pay their respects. Green grass and trees in New York.
ENTER THE HEROIC AGE #1
Perhaps the day after A:INIT 35 (19-22). At a Nevada base, a HAMMER scientist experiments on Reptil until HAMMER agents, arrive. Having heard that Osborn “just got arrested” (perhaps a communication delay is involved), the agents kill the scientist to eliminate evidence of the illegal activity at the base. Reptil attacks the agents, then Pym, Justoce, and Tigra arrive in an Avengers quinjet to recruit Reptil.

Typos, and a few other bits'n'bobs:
Paul Bourcier wrote:AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (1-11)

Hood should be capitalised. Is "xxx" a placeholder?

An attache case

Materialises.

I'd replace "(which no longer has the Watchtower spires)" with "creating an Asgardian tower to replace the Watchtower".

Thanks, Somebody! BTW, the xxxs indicate a character I don't recognize. Where would you place SIEGE #3/2 (4)?

Between SIEGE 3 (12) & (13). It has to take place *after* Speed gives Stark the suit of 70s armour, but *before* Iron Man appears and shuts the Iron Patriot armour down, after all.

Thanks, Somebody. Let's put it between SIEGE 3 (10-12) and A:INIT 34 (17:2-17:3), when the fighter jets show up.

Re: Siege timeline

Post by Spider-Man »

Wow, that's a really detailed timeline, good job fitting everything together so well. Most of my confusion came from thinking that Cap and the others confront Osborn immediately after Asgard falls; once I realized there was a gap between pages 19 and 20 of Siege 3, placing issues like the Captain America and Young Avengers one-shots became a lot easier.

That said, I just recently re-read Siege and I did notice a few minor errors here and there, and some other things worth commenting on:
Paul Bourcier wrote: SIEGE #1 (1-6)
One night during baseball season.
Shouldn't this be one night during football season? :D
Paul Bourcier wrote: SIEGE: EMBEDDED #3 (1-18)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 2 (6-22). Urich and Stern flee from soldiers at Tinker Air Force Base and board a plane of accepted reporters heading into the war zone. They see Osborn’s forces (including Daken, Bullseye, and Sentry) headed there too. Venom busts into their plane and attacks the civilians inside. The craft crashes, and Urich and Stern find Keller among the wreckage. Keller threatens the two to help him set up a connection to the network so he can spread more Osborn propaganda.
There are a few mistakes here: Only Urich boards the plane, and Stern isn't seen again until the end of the issue, when he steals a military van and arrives at Asgard just as it's falling. Also, when the plane Urich is on reaches Asgard, the city is already under aerial bombardment. If I had to guess, I'd place that scene (and the Venom battle that follows) during or after SIEGE 1 (16), when the aerial bombardment of Asgard begins, but before SIEGE 1 (17), when HAMMER forces (including Venom) actually land on the surface of the floating continent.
Paul Bourcier wrote: AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #33 (17-22)
The same day as A:INIT 33 (3-8). This segment probably occurs before the segments on pages 8-16. The Avengers Resistance rout the Initiative villains at Camp HAMMER and Scarlet Spider shuts down the camp’s systems. The Hood appears and counterattacks. HAMMER troops keep Penance in his cell, and Tigra attacks the Hood, who tells Night Thrasher to kill Tigra if he wants to see his brother alive. Green trees at Camp HAMMER.

AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (1-11)
The same day as A:INIT 33 (17-22). Donyell refuses to cooperate with the Hood, and he and Tigra attack the villain. The hood uses magic to strengthen his army (including Ringer, Man-Killer, Living Laser, Scorcher, and xxx), who put the Avengers Resistance on the ropes. Penance breaks out of his cell and recruits Butterball, Batwing, and Bengal. The foursome join the Avengers Resistance in battling the Camp Hammond villains, and everyone learns Penance is Speedball. The hood receives a summons to join Osborn in Broxton and he teleports away with Mandrill, Griffin, Scorcher, Ringer, and others, leaving Boomerang, Man-Killer, Razorfist, and others to fight the Avengers Resistance.
Isn't the scene where the Hood and his crew teleport to Asgard supposed to coincide with Osborn calling the Hood for backup, which happens quite a bit later than this?
Paul Bourcier wrote: DARK WOLVERINE #83 (4:5-17)
The same day as A:INIT 33 (14-15). Daken receives Osborn’s order to find Thor, and as he goes off with a squad of HAMMER troops, the Fates wonder why Daken follows Osborn. They tell Daken that they’ve selected him as the bringer of Ragnarok, and when he refuses to let them use him, the Fates get angry.
The explosion scene at the beginning of this issue is supposed to be Thor's lightning smiting down Daken and the HAMMER troops, and Daken even has the same dialogue here as he does in Siege #2. Daken's visions of the Fates and of Ragnarok are supposed to take place while he's unconscious. To be more specific, page 6 and SIEGE 2 (23:1-23:5) both show Daken stopping at a cafe to track Thor's scent and saying "got him," and then page 7 and the first two panels of page 8 show a much more graphic depiction of the lightning strike portrayed in SIEGE 2 (23:6).
Paul Bourcier wrote: SIEGE: SECRET WARRIORS #1 – FB (5-8)
The same day as MA 36 (1-4). This flashback occurs “4 hours” before SIEGE:SWARRIORS 1. “Five” minutes prior to departure with Captain America and his gathered heroes, Fury contacts Osborn, who is in the middle of the siege on Asgard. Fury tells Osborn that he’s coming and that the end is near.
Ares is still alive and fighting against the Asgardians in the scene where Fury contacts Osborn. Unfortunately, Ares and Osborn hadn't fought alongside each other since before Thor's arrival, and that was before all of Cap's heroes had arrived at the Avengers hideout, which causes a rather frustrating paradox here.
Paul Bourcier wrote: AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (5:1)
The same day as SIEGE 3 (8:2-8:3). Bucky and Taskmaster watch the Hood materialize onto the battlefield with his army, including Mandrill, Living Laser, Razorfist, Griffin, and Cutthroat.
Probably just a typo, but this should be (17:1), not (5:1).
Paul Bourcier wrote: THOR #608 (1-20:2)
The same day as T 607 (19-22). Heimdall detects that the Hood has the Norn Stones, and Balder and Heimdall set out to find the treacherous Loki. Kelda visits Bill’s parents in Broxton but is told to leave. Tyr visits fallen Asgardians and the remains of Ares and Thor battles the Sentry. Tyr finds the Hood, who nearly kills him with the power of the Norn Stones. Volstagg battles Ragnarok.
The last three panels of page 19 and the first two panels of page 20 happen while the Army is attacking the HAMMER helicarrier. The air strike on the helicarrier is visible in the background, and Volstagg even talks about it briefly.
Paul Bourcier wrote: SIEGE: LOKI #1
The same day as T 608 (1-20). This segment occurs “weeks” after SIEGE:L 1-FB (5-13). As Asgard is besieged, Loki goes to Las Vegas, where he tells Hela he can give her a new realm. He visits Mephisto and offers him the Disir’s services in return for a piece of his domain to serve as Hela’s realm. Loki gets Hela and Mephisto to sign a pact as they watch the assault on Asgard.
When Loki is making his deal with Hela and Mephisto, if you look closely at what's going on below them you can see the Sentry literally flying straight through Asgard as the floating continent tumbles onto its side. Having their deal take place right as Asgard is falling also segues nicely into Hela's next appearance...
Paul Bourcier wrote: NEW MUTANTS v3 #11
The same day as SIEGE:L 1 (14-22). The New Mutants go to a Las Vegas casino for “the weekend,” but unbeknownst to her teammates, Moonstar is in Vegas because Hela has called in the favor she owes. Hela forces Dani to collect the fallen warriors of Asgard and claim them for Hel. Aboard Brightwind, Dani heads to Broxton. There she encounters Tyr and a group of slain Asgardians, who are the intended prey of the Disir. The Disir claim some of the Asgardians, but Dani vanquishes them. She tells Tyr that he’s not really dead and to return to his people. She takes the remaining Asgardian spirits to Hela in Las Vegas.
This whole story takes place after the Sentry's attack on Asgard, since Hela mentions that Asgard has already fallen when she sends Moonstar on her quest.
Paul Bourcier wrote: SIEGE: SECRET WARRIORS #1
The same day as SIEGE:E 3 (19-20). This story occurs “4 hours” after SIEGE:SWARRIORS 1-FB (5-8). Phobos watches news coverage of his father’s death and taps into Fury’s computer to discover a way to access the White House. Phobos arrives at the Oval Office and encounters Secret Service agents. In Asgard, Fury asks Cap to “a semi-annual get-together of the Howling Commandos” as they fight the U-Foes. As the president is evacuated from the White House, Phobos shoots a bunch of Secret Service agents and leaves a note of admonishment and warning for Obama. Green trees in Washington, DC.
Shouldn't Phobos' battle against the Secret Service take place after Obama gives the order to take down the HAMMER helicarrier? When Obama gave that order he was still in his war room in the White House.
Paul Bourcier wrote: THUNDERBOLTS #143 (1-4:1)
The same day as T 609. Iron Man shuts down Osborn’s armor. Osborn sends a signal to the Thunderbolts, and Nuke replies, claiming he has the Spear of Odin. Nuke gathers Grizzly and Mr. X and they rush to bring the spear to Osborn, but Paladin shoots Nuke in the face. Elsewhere in Asgard, Ghost continues phasing through the defeated Vision in front of Cho.
The first page of this happens right as Iron Man is shutting down Osborn's armor, before Osborn ordered the Sentry to destroy Asgard. The dialogue even matches the dialogue in Siege 3 (16). Nuke's reply is probably a delayed one, understandably.
Paul Bourcier wrote: NEW AVENGERS: FINALE #1 (40-60)

Cage ruminates on the team’s mission, and the team knows they won when the take a stroll through the park in their civilian identities. Green grass and trees in New York.
I thought the gathering at Avengers Tower shown here was the same one shown at the end of Siege. Is there any reason to think they're different events?

A few other things:

Exactly how can Druid be off the team by the time of Siege 2 if he was at the mission briefing transcribed in the back of the issue? I don't think Secret Warriors 13 could've taken place in the narrow window of time between that meeting and the Secret Warriors' arrival at Cap's hideout.

Where would the flashback scenes in NA 63 go? They seem to take place on the same night as NA 61 and 62, but I'm not sure if they'd take place before or after the events of those issues. There's another flashback to the same night in NA 64, but it clearly takes place after NA 62 since it shows the Hood's gang regrouping and preparing for the attack on Asgard.

What's up with the random Venom attack in Siege: Embedded 3? Did anyone else feel like that whole scene didn't make any sense? It's completely out of character for Mac Gargan and I have no idea how the hell he even "crashed" into that plane to begin with.

Speaking of out of character moments, what's with Thunderball being so reverent of Asgardian culture in the Young Avengers one-shot, but then denying the existence of gods in Thor 609? Admittedly, I don't know very much about Thunderball, but I've never seen a character depicted with such completely opposite attitudes about something in two issues of the same storyline before...

I still think the stories in Dark Wolverine 84 and the Spider-Man one-shot are a little inconsistent with the rest of the crossover, since they involve key characters (Daken and Bullseye; Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and Venom) going off on their own for extended periods of time, even though those characters are all clearly visible throughout all of the battle shown in Siege 3, New Avengers 63-64, and Avengers Initiative 34. Still, where you put those stories is probably the best possible place for them, and if you squint a little and read between the panels it works well enough.

Thanks, Spider-Man. A couple of answers, and a question:
I thought the gathering at Avengers Tower shown here was the same one shown at the end of Siege. Is there any reason to think they're different events?
I thought the same as you at first, but I felt I needed to make time for Tigra's and Ben Urich's scenes between the end of Siege and the party (in A:INIT 35 (16-18) and SIEGE:E 4-FB (20), respectively). I also wanted to avoid the awkward flash-forward that would have happened with that stroll in the park. I attributed the comment at the party about the New Avengers thinking they were walking into a trap as a tongue-in-cheek "pinch me" statement after Rogers had already declared the team was free.
Exactly how can Druid be off the team by the time of Siege 2 if he was at the mission briefing transcribed in the back of the issue?
I actually placed SIEGE 2/2 before SIEGE 2. Look between T 607 (2-7) and A4 61.
Where would the flashback scenes in NA 63 go? They seem to take place on the same night as NA 61 and 62, but I'm not sure if they'd take place before or after the events of those issues.
OK, here's my chronology just before SIEGE 1 (1-6):

NEW AVENGERS #64 – FB
One day, “two days” before A4 64 (9/10:1). Osborn summons the Hood to the damaged Avengers Tower and asks to see the source of his new powers. The Hood shows Osborn the Norn stones and tells him they only obey him. Osborn tells Hood he wants his gang to become the new Thunderbolts and that they will replace the Avengers. Hood reports back to his gang about Osborns offer. Mandrill refuses to cooperate, but when Hood strips him of powers, Mandrill relents.

Clint tells Bobbi that they can start fresh after Osborn’s defeated..
This segment must occur before SIEGE 1 (11-23).
SIEGE 1 (1-6)
The same night as IM5 24 (24-26). etc.

The first page of this [TB 143] happens right as Iron Man is shutting down Osborn's armor, before Osborn ordered the Sentry to destroy Asgard. The dialogue even matches the dialogue in Siege 3 (16).
That could be problematic, considering the placement of SIEGE 3 (16) relative to TB 142 and everything that toes into.

Spider-Man, regarding your suggestions for moving segments around -- do you think you could post excerpts of a new edited listing reflecting your proposals for reordering?

Re: Siege timeline

Post by Spider-Man »

Sure. I'm not 100% familiar with your usual format, but I did my best to emulate the style you were using. Here are the proposed changes:
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #3 (1-5)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 2 (6-22). Urich and Stern flee from soldiers at Tinker Air Force Base and Urich boards a plane of accepted reporters heading into the war zone.
THUNDERBOLTS #141 (1-5)
The same morning as SIEGE:E 3 (1-5).
SIEGE #1 (13-16)
The same morning as T 607 (8-13). Loki “warns” Balder of the mortals’ plan to invade Asgard just before Osborn’s forces launch an aerial strike.
SIEGE: EMBEDDED #3 (6-18)
From the plane they're on, Urich and Keller see Osborn’s forces (including Daken, Bullseye, and Sentry) launching an aerial strike on Asgard. Venom busts into their plane and attacks the civilians inside. The craft crashes, and Urich and Stern find Keller among the wreckage. Keller threatens the two to help him set up a connection to the network so he can spread more Osborn propaganda.
SIEGE #1 (17)
Osborn and his troops land on Asgard, and the Asgardians rush out to meet the invaders in battle.
Split up the opening of Siege: Embedded 3 so that the scenes of all the HAMMER jet fighters attacking Asgard matched up with similar scenes in Siege 1.
SIEGE #2 (19-22)
The same day as SIEGE:SWARRIORS 1-FB (5-8). As they board a SHIELD helitransport, Bucky offers Cap his shield and Jarvis gives Cap an attache for Stark. Fury orders Phobos to stay put. The heroes enter a wormhole and travel instantly from New York to Broxton.
DARK WOLVERINE #83 (4:5-5)
Daken receives Osborn’s order to find Thor, and as he goes off with a squad of HAMMER troops, the Fates wonder why Daken follows Osborn.
SIEGE #2 (23:1-23:5) ~ DARK WOLVERINE #83 (6)
In Broxton, Daken stops at a cafe to track Thor's scent. Once he does, he informs the HAMMER agents he's with and leads them to the building where Thor is hiding.
SIEGE #2 (23:6) ~ DARK WOLVERINE #83 (7-8:2)
Daken finds Thor and gets fried with lightning. The HAMMER agents with him are all immediately immolated.
SIEGE #2 (24:1-24:3)
Osborn, Moonstone, and Sentry confront Thor and Hill.
DARK WOLVERINE #83 (8:3-17)
While unconscious, Daken has a vision of the Fates appearing to him in the flaming ruins of Broxton. They tell him that they’ve selected him as the bringer of Ragnarok, and when he refuses to let them use him, the Fates get angry.
SIEGE #2 (24:4-24:6) ~ AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #33 (15:3-15:5)
The same day as SIEGE 2 (19-24). Osborn orders Sentry to take Broxton and Asgard, and the incredulous Taskmaster tells Osborn to turn around.
Changed around the placement of Dark Wolverine 83, since some scenes in it were identical to scenes depicted in Siege 2, and since Daken's visions are meant to take place while he's KOed.
NEW AVENGERS #63 (9:2-9:4)
The same day as A4 63 (3-4). Cage battles Venom.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #33 (17-22)
The same day as A:INIT 33 (3-8).
SIEGE #3 (8:2-8:3)
The same day as A4 63 (9:2-9:4). Osborn calls on Loki for reinforcements.
The hood receives a summons to join Osborn in Broxton and he teleports away with Mandrill, Griffin, Ringer, and others, leaving Boomerang, Man-Killer, Razorfist, and others to fight the Avengers Resistance.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (17:1)
The same day as SIEGE 3 (8:2-8:3). Bucky and Taskmaster watch the Hood materialize onto the battlefield with his army, including Mandrill, Living Laser, Razorfist, Griffin, and Cutthroat.
NEW AVENGERS #63 (10:1) ~ NEW AVENGERS #64 (9/10:1)
The same day as A:INIT 34 (17:1). This segment occurs “two days” after A4 64-FB. Hood and his army charge forward toward Ronin. Included are Thunderball, Bulldozer, a Brother Grimm, Chemistro, Griffin, Crossfire, Wrecker, Mandrill, Razorfist, Scarecrow, Blackout, Piledriver, Answer, Deathwatch, a Blood Brother, Corruptor, Bushwacker, Madame Masque, and Living Laser.
SIEGE #3 (9)
The same day as A4 63 (10:1). Mockingbird and Ronin see Hood and his army surge forward. Included are a Brother Grimm, Scarecrow, Wrecker, Piledriver, Blackout, Madame Masque, Corruptor, Deathwatch, Bulldozer, Thunderball, Cutthroat, Griffin, and Mandrill.
Moved down the battle at Camp Hammond so that the Hood's departure leads right into his arrival at Asgard. It is teleportation, after all. Also, Scorcher was still at Camp Hammond in A:INIT 35, so I removed the mention of him leaving for Asgard with the Hood.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (17:2-17:3)
The same day as SIEGE 3 (10-12). Bucky and Taskmaster see fighter jets attack the HAMMER helicarrier above the battlefield.
THOR #608 (19:2-20:2)
Volstagg continues to battle Ragnarok as the Army attacks the HAMMER helicarrier above them.
SIEGE #3 (13-15)
The same day as A:INIT 34 (17:2-17:3). As the helicarrier is attacked, Victoria Hand gives the order to abandon ship. Thor battles the Sentry while Cap fights Osborn.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (18-20:1)
The same day as SIEGE 3 (13-15). Constrictor saves Diamondback from getting killed by an Asgardian. They discuss the fighter jets attacking the helicarrier and what it means. When Rachel sees Cap fighting Osborn, she runs to him, leaving Constrictor feeling jilted.
SIEGE #3 (16:1) ~ THUNDERBOLTS #143 (1:1-1:2)
Osborn’s armor starts to shut down when Iron Man appears on the scene.
THUNDERBOLTS #143 (1:3)
Osborn sends a signal to the Thunderbolts.
SIEGE #3 (16:2-16:3)
Osborn's armor completely shuts down.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (20:2)
Rachel notices Frank walking away and calls out to him.
SIEGE #3 (16:4) ~ AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (20:3)
With his armor shut down and the Army attack the Helicarrier, Osborn makes a desperate decision. He tries to contact the Sentry.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #34 (20:4)
Osborn orders Sentry, who’s fighting Thor, to destroy Asgard.
SIEGE #3 (16:5-16:6)
Sentry heeds Osborn’s call and leaves the battle with Thor.
Two fixes in one here: Volstagg's battle with Ragnarok happens at the same time as the Army's attack on the Helicarrier, and Osborn's message to the Thunderbolts goes out right as Iron Man is shutting down Osborn's armor. I did have to split a lot of segments up into even smaller segments to make it all work, though.
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #43 (21:2-21:4)
The same day as SIEGE:CA 1 (5). Diamondback and Constrictor watch as Sentry bashes through Asgard.
SIEGE: LOKI #1
The same day as T 608 (1-20). This segment occurs “weeks” after SIEGE:L 1-FB (5-13). As Asgard is besieged, Loki goes to Las Vegas, where he tells Hela he can give her a new realm. He visits Mephisto and offers him the Disir’s services in return for a piece of his domain to serve as Hela’s realm. Loki gets Hela and Mephisto to sign a pact as they watch the assault on Asgard.
SIEGE #3 (17)
The same day as A:INIT 43 (21:2-21:4). Thor watches as Asgard starts to crumble.
Moved Siege: Loki down, since Loki's deal with Hela and Mephisto occurs while the Sentry is in the middle of plowing through Asgard. Loki's trips to Las Vegas and to Mephisto's Hell should probably occur significantly earlier than this, but I wasn't sure where exactly those scenes should go, so I kept them with the rest of the issue.
SIEGE: CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 (7-22)
The same day as SIEGE:YA 1. Cap and Bucky Cap emerge from the rubble of Asgard and defeat Crossfire. When Razorfist threatens the Broxton family who was photographic the disaster, Cap and Bucky team up to beat him.
NEW MUTANTS v3 #11
THOR #609
The same day as SIEGE:CA 1 (7-22). HAMMER forces shoot Kelda in Broxton. Volstagg emerges from the rubble of Asgard. Thor and Tyr battle and subdue Thunderball amid the ruins. Balder frees Heimdall from the rubble, and when Loki materializes in their presence, Balder strikes him. Loki tells Balder he must end his rule to start a new age for Asgard. Bill’s parents support Kelda, who recovers and lashes back at the HAMMER forces. Volstagg gives himself up to police, but they let him go to fight the real bad guys. Loki admits to being involved with Osborn, and Balder banishes him. Balder retaliates against the Hood, Piledriver, Wrecker, and Bulldozer.
SIEGE: YOUNG AVENGERS #1
The same day as A4 63 (21/22:6). Wiccan laments the fall of Asgard as Speed tries to help survivors. The trapped Patriot and Hawkeye try to find a way out of the rubble. Hulkling and Wiccan encounter the Wrecking Crew, who are looting Asgard. Wiccan uses lightning to take down the quartet. Ronin encourages the weary Speed. Hawkeye and Patriot emerge from the ruins and the team reunites to help the Avengers.
THUNDERBOLTS #143 (2-4:1)
The same day as T 609. Nuke replies to the message Osborn sent him earlier, claiming he has the Spear of Odin. Nuke gathers Grizzly and Mr. X and they rush to bring the spear to Osborn, but Paladin shoots Nuke in the face. Elsewhere in Asgard, Ghost continues phasing through the defeated Vision in front of Cho.
Moved the New Mutants story down, since Hela clearly stated in it that Asgard had already fallen. Also slightly edited the opening of Thunderbolts 143 to reflect the first page of it being moved up, as mentioned above.

EDIT: Also moved down the Young Avengers one-shot to after Thor #609, since the Wrecking Crew is still active at the end of Thor, but they get KO'ed at the end of the Young Avengers story. Oh, and Thunderball's unusually reverent attitude toward the Asgardians in Young Avengers makes slightly more sense if it happens after he took a good beating from Thor and Tyr.

The placement of Siege: Secret Warriors should also be changed, though I'm not quite sure where it should be moved to. As I mentioned in my last post, there's a scene with Osborn and Ares fighting side-by-side that doesn't quite fit anywhere, and the Phobos scenes have to take place some time after Obama orders the Army to attack the HAMMER helicarrier, but aside from that I don't know exactly where they'd fit.

Thanks, Spider-Man. I'll take a look at these suggestions when I have some time and let you know if I have questions.

If anyone else has observations to share about the Siege chronology, let me know.

Spider-Man, I've had a chance to review your rearranged chronology and am in the process of making adjustments based on your notes. Good eye for detail!

I'm making a few tweaks of my own in the process. I want to make sure I understand what you intend to do with A:INIT chronology. It appears that you want to reorganize events as ordered in this book as follows:
A:INIT 33 (1-16)
A:INIT 34 (12-16)
A:INIT 33 (17-22)
A:INIT 34 (1-11)
A:INIT 34 (17-22)

In essence, A:INIT 34 (12-16) is a flashback relative to other content in that issue. Is that right?

Yes. It seems like it has to be, for the Hood's departure from Camp Hammond to correspond with his arrival at Asgard.
