Fantasma and Crimson Dynamo (Bukharin) in M/CP 21

Post by Chris McCarver »

Is there some reason Fantasma's BTS appearance in M/CP 21 is listed prior to her first published appearance in CA 352, since the chronologies for all the other Supreme Soviets place that issue after that team's second group appearance in CA 353? Also, is there a reason that Crimson Dynamo's chronology doesn't mention that issue at all?

If I recall correctly, the story contained a mention of the Soviet Super-Soldiers... the OHOTMU Appendix site says this was a misnomer by the mentioner since the Supreme Soviets were the new big Russian hero team at the time.

Finally getting around to this...

The MCP currently has these characters listed under the wrong story in M/CP 21, it's supposed to be M/CP 21/3 along with the other BTS characters from the Avengers & Fantastic Four.

Also, Paladin name-checks the Soviet Super Soldiers in M/CP 21/3. However, we have (most of) the Supreme Soviets listed.

Also, Alpha Flight is BTS here, but they're not listed at all.

Also, all of this stuff happens in flashback. Paladin is the only character that appears in both the flashback and the current portion.

So, M/CP 21-BTS needs to be deleted from Fantasma's, Perun's, Red Guardian IV's & Vostok's chronologies.

M/CP 21/3-FB needs to be added to Paladin's chronology right before M/CP 21/3.

M/CP 21/3-BTS needs to be changed to M/CP 21/3-FB-BTS in Captain America's, Forgotten One's, Johnny Storm's, Invisible Woman's, Mr. Fantastic's, Ms. Marvel II's, Quasar's, Thing's & Thor's chronologies.

M/CP 21/3-FB-BTS needs to be added to Darkstar's, Ursa Major's & Vanguard's chronologies after CA 353.

As for Alpha Flight... M/CP 21 was published the same month as AF 71. What was the team line-up at this time and where should M/CP 21/3-FB-BTS be placed for those characters?

Looks like the team line-up at the time was: Box (Madison Jeffries), Diamond Lil (Lillian Crawley), Goblyn, Pathway (Laura Dean), Persuasion (Kara Killgrave), Sasquatch (Walter Langkowski), Shaman (Michael Twoyoungmen), Talisman (Elizabeth Twoyoungmen), and Vindicator (Heather Hudson).

EDIT: Lil had joined the regular cast of the book in AF 71, but didn't actually become a team member until AF 78. I think between AF 70-71's the best insertion point, since they just wrapped the Wrath of the Dreamqueen arc in AF 70 and there was no cliffhanger at the end. This would remove Lil from the list. AF 71 started a big dimension-hopping multi-parter that ended in AF 75, and since Talisman appeared during the Atlantis Attacks event in SS@ 2 (after the Richardses had left the Avengers) between AF 76 and 78, that makes placing it after AF 75 a bit unlikely.

Well, AF 70 didn't end with a cliffhanger but AF 71 picks up right where AF 70 left off.

Alpha Flight is arguing about the future of their team in the middle of a destroyed room is where AF 70 ends, and they're still arguing in that same destroyed room in AF 71 when the government breaks in. AF 71 ends with a cliffhanger that leads right into AF 72-75, like you said.

I wonder if we can open up some time during AF 71, after Talisman makes a fuss in front of the government agents but before the cliffhanger... while the married campers are fiddling around witht he statue they found but before the husband kills the wife.

Also, there's a problem with the Soviet Super-Soldiers. SSS 1 is currently missing from Darkstar's, Ursa Major's & Vanguard's MCP chronologies, but that issue makes it clear that these three fall into a coma after CA 353, and this is their next appearance after that; they come out of the coma in SSS 1. SSS 1 was published in 1992, but it was originally intended to be run in Marvel Comics Presents. In it, Vostok is still called Sputnik and Fantasia has already changed her name to Fantasma. By A 319 Sputnik has also changed his name to Vostok, so SSS 1 has to take place before A 319.

Basically, there's nowhere for M/CP 21/3-FB-BTS to take place for the Soviet Super-Soldiers.

The good news is we have a way out: Paladin couldn't remember if he called the Soviet Super-Soldiers or Alpha Flight in M/CP 21/3-FB. Since SSS 1 reveals the Soviet Super-Soldiers are in a coma and unavailable at this time, he must have called Alpha Flight.
