1989 Spider-Man Chronology

After Spider-Man makes his way through the summer annuals of 1989, current chronology has the events of ASM 320 taking place beginning the Assassin Nation Plot. Key features here are the announcement of Mary Jane that her and Pete are going to help Harry and Liz move into their new apartment and concluding the issue is Peter overhearing Aunt May on the phone believing that she has 6 months to live. The listings squeeze in PPTSS 154 and WOSM 55 before finishing with the 6-part “Plot”. Here are the problems:

PPTSS 154 continues the Lobo brothers’ war with the Kingpin and has Peter and MJ meeting with Aunt May with no mention of impending death. They do note that Aunt May looks worried and tired. They are still apartment hunting and no mention of helping the Osborns move.

WOSM 55 continues the war with no mention of Aunt May, the Osborns and still apartment hunting. The issue concludes with Glory Grant killing Edwardo Lobo.

ASM 321 picks up the subject in a kitchen scene with Peter, MJ, and Aunt May on page 9. Page 11 has a gorgeous McFarlane MJ telling Peter she’s trying out for a part in a soap opera. The issue continues with the Osborn move and Peter and MJ taking the Soho loft as their new place and Peter leaving for Symkaria. By the end of this issue, the”Plot” storyline is in full swing, MJ is a potential actress, and they have a new loft apartment.

PPTSS 155 contains FBs to ASM 321 and a new complete FB leading to this issue’s story with the Tombstone prison break. It is here that an assumption must be made that at the conclusion of this issue, Pete, MJ, and Aunt May return to the kitchen and conclude the events of ASM 321.

PPTSS 156 picks up “days later” which would allow for the inclusion of the “Plot” storyline and MJ and Osborns are painting the new loft.

WOSM 56 has MJ first learning about the soap opera job, Peter is bruised from the Tombstone fight in PPTSS 155, references Aunt May’s misunderstood death, and Harry still calling about the upcoming move. All these issues must be included during the events of ASM 321.

WOSM 57 follows directly from #56 but still has MJ and Peter in the loft following PPTSS 156.
