Okay, good -- that's a start. Can anyone help "plug in" the Spider-books?

I managed to get a slight extension on the TPB deadline, so we basically have until Friday to bring up and deal with any remaining chronology problems. This one is the biggest currently on my radar.

Let's go go go people!!! :-D

Here's how In placed the Spidey issues:

Avengers #311 - Avengers Island sunk
Captain America #365 - references island sinking??
Iron Man #251-252 - iirc, Iron Man flies off to meet the WCA here.
Avengers West Coast #53 - Iron Man with WCA, referencing A #311
Thor #411-412
Captain America #366 - ties into the Thor #411-412 Juggy battle
**Web of Spider-Man #60
**Amazing Spider-Man #328
**Spectacular Spider-Man #160
**Web of Spider-Man #61
Captain America #367
Quasar #6
Avengers #312
Avengers West Coast #54
Thor #413 - Thor heads off to the final battle
Avengers #313 - final battle, part 1
Avengers West Coast #55 - final battle, part 2
Avengers Annual #19 - aftermath

I should point out that I do have CA 367 before A 312, not after, and that I have CA 368 occuring in three parts -- between Q 6 and A 312, between A 312 and AWC 54, and during A 313.

FWIW, and at the risk of sparking a whole long discussion during crunch-time, here are my detailed notes about the time of Acts of Vengeance, which I haven't really reviewed for years:

CAPTAIN AMERICA #363 (1st story: end)
(one day; "several days" after CA 363 1st beg end; full moon inconsistent with that in CA 362 1st; perhaps Monday, September 20)
Captain America, Peggy Carter, Man-Wolf (as John Jameson), Diamondback II, Lia, Madam Xiana, Mister Phun, Crossbones

CAPTAIN AMERICA #364 (1st story)
(same night as CA 363 1st end; full moon; perhaps Monday, September 20)
Captain America, Diamondback II, Eddie, Mister Phun, Crossbones, Red Skull

QUASAR #4
(must be same day as CA 364 1st; probably a weekday; must be more than "two months" after Q 2, perhaps about six months after; "seven cycles" after Q 4 FB end; "a few years" after Rom 65 and MTIO 58; full moon; perhaps Monday, September 20)
Quasar III, Starbrand II (as Kayla Ballantine), Eon, Aquarian, Quantum

SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #158
(one day; after WOSM 58 and WOSM Ann 5 2nd; the "Monday" after ASM 326; perhaps September 20)
Spider-Man, Mary Jane Watson (Parker), J. Jonah Jameson, Joe Robertson, Martha Robertson, Randy Robertson, Amanda Robertson, Cynthia Bernhammer, Max Lubisch, Nick Katzenberg, Stuart McPhee, Stephan, Trapster, Kingpin, Wizard, Dr. Doom, Magneto, Loki

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #59
(same night as SSM 158; "some months" after MSHSW 7; FF 333 referred to as "quite recently"; newspaper date of "Wednesday, January 4" must be topical; warm weather; full moon; perhaps Monday, September 20)
Spider-Man, Mary Jane Watson (Parker), Ben Urich, Kate Cushing, Joy Mercado, Lance Bannon, Nick Katzenberg, Puma, Titania II, Dr. Doom, [Captain Universe]

FANTASTIC FOUR #334 (beginning)

AVENGERS ANNUAL #19 (3rd story -- flashback: page 3, panel 2)
(must be same night as FF 334 beg; perhaps Monday, September 20)
Dr. Doom

AVENGERS #311 (all except pages 11-12)
(same night as Q 4 and Av Ann 19 3rd FB pg. 3, pn. 2; shortly after Av 318 FB; superheroes are already fighting foes they've never faced although they may be skirmishes not recorded anywhere; pages 11 and 12 must be a flash forward; perhaps Monday, "September" 20)
Quasar III, Guardsman II (as Michael O'Brien), Mechanaut, Peggy Carter, M'Daka, Keith Kincaid, Donna Maria Puentes, Nuklo (as Bob Frank), Frank, Mandarin, Dr. Doom, Loki

QUASAR #5 (beginning)

Quasar III, Stingray, Guardsman II (as Michael O'Brien), Absorbing Man, Loki

AVENGERS ANNUAL #19 (3rd story -- flashback: page 4, panel 1)
(same day as Q 5 beg; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Awesome Android, Sentry 459, Sleeper IV, Super Adaptoid, Tess One

AVENGERS SPOTLIGHT #27 (2nd story)
(same day as Q 5 beg; may not actually occur at the same time as AWC 53, CA 365 1st end, MT 411, Q 5 end, and IM 251, especially since AWC 53 and IM 251 cannot happen at the same time because Tony Stark is in both stories -- this story may simply occur the same day as all those other stories and the vignettes from those stories are not considered part of this story; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Photon II (as Captain Marvel II), Black Widow II, Firebird, Moondragon, Hellcat, Stingray, Awesome Android

QUASAR #5 (middle)
(later the same morning as Q 5 beg; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Quasar III, Starbrand II (as Kayla Ballantine), Gilbert Vaughn, Eon, [Shintaro Kuramoto]

QUASAR #5 (end)
(same afternoon as Q 5 mid; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Quasar III, Ken Tanaka, Captain America, Shintaro Kuramoto, Absorbing Man

CAPTAIN AMERICA #365 (1st story: beginning)
(same day as Q 5 end; may be more than "six hours" after Av 311; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Captain America, Diamondback II, Man-Wolf (as John Jameson), Guardsman II (as Michael O'Brien), Mechanaut (as Fabian Stankowicz), Peggy Carter, M'Daka, Edwin Jarvis, Sub-Mariner, Controller, Crossbones, Red Skull, Loki, [Quasar III], [Stingray]

FANTASTIC FOUR #334 (end)
(day after FF 334 beg; must be same morning as CA 365 1st beg; before MT 411; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing (as Ben Grimm), Human Torch II, Ms. Marvel II, Tattletale (as Franklin Richards), Captain America, Thor, Ernie, Shocker, Ramrod, Plantman Simuloid, Quill, Flying Tiger

FANTASTIC FOUR #335
(same day as FF 334 end; probably a weekday; "a few months" after XF 26; reference to X-Factor's seemingly dropping off the face of the earth must be attributable to an undocumented adventure; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Mr. Fantastic (as Reed Richards), Invisible Woman (as Sue Richards), Thing (as Ben Grimm), Human Torch II, Ms. Marvel II, Tattletale (as Franklin Richards), Henry Peter Gyrich, Mr. Hodkins, Congressman Martin, General Neddington, Hamilton Nathanson, Pat Mullet, Rodney, Diego Ramirez, Fred, Miriam, Paul Grant, Sergeant Spaulding, James Pertierra, Apocalypse, Ramrod, Plantman Simuloid, Quill, Flying Tiger, Thunderball, Eel, Mad-Dog, Vanisher

FANTASTIC FOUR #336
(same day as FF 335; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)

(same day as IM 251; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Iron Man, War Machine (as Jim Rhodes), Bambi Arbogast, Chemistro (as Curtis Carr), Chemistro III

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #327
(must be day after WOSM 59; ASM 326, SSM 158 and WOSM 59 have all occurred during "the past few days"; a college school day; newspaper date of "Wednesday, October 4, 1989" must be topical; the remark that "Halloween isn't for two weeks yet" is probably topical or a joke, but Halloween season is probably approaching; green grass and trees; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Spider-Man, Mary Jane Watson (Parker), Flash Thompson, Blaze xxxx, Max Lubisch, Magneto, Wizard, Dr. Doom, Kingpin, [Captain Universe]

SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #159

AVENGERS WEST COAST #53 (flashback: end)
(one day; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Vapor, Ironclad, X-Ray

AVENGERS WEST COAST #53
(same day as AWC 53 FB end; must be same day as IM 252; must be day after Av 311 since the west coast team discovers that the east coast team's communications system is out; chronological analysis suggests that this story occurs about a month after FF Ann 22 1st, so Wanda could not have been catatonic for all that time -- her affliction must have kicked in shortly before this story as a result of many events including that in FF Ann 22 1st; Simon's reference to everything since WCA 42 happening during "the past few weeks" must mean the past few months; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Wonder Man, Vision II, Scarlet Witch, Giant-Man (as Dr. Pym), Wasp, U.S.Agent, Human Torch, Iron Man, Ann Raymond, Vector, Vapor, Ironclad, X-Ray, Immortus, Magneto, Loki

AVENGERS ANNUAL #19 (3rd story -- flashback: page 4, panels 4-5)

CAPTAIN AMERICA #365 (1st story: end)

MIGHTY THOR #411 (1st story: page 1-page 6, panel 3)
(same night as CA 366 1st pg. 1-4, FF 334 end and AS 27 2nd; "weeks" after NW 1; the news report about Avengers Island being attacked "earlier this afternoon" must be incorrect -- that event occurred the night before; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Thor, Thunderstrike (as Eric Masterson), Hercules (as Harry Cleese), Kevin Masterson, Susan Austin

CAPTAIN AMERICA #366 (1st story: page 5, panel 1)
(same night as CA 366 1st pg. 1-4 and MT 411 1st pg. 1-6; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Controller

MIGHTY THOR #411 (1st story: page 6, panels 4-6)/CAPTAIN AMERICA #366 (1st story: page 5, panel 2)
(same night as CA 366 1st pg. 5, pn. 1; MT 411 shows the battle with Cain Marko occuring in the daytime, while CA 366 shows the same scene at night -- the latter is probably correct; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)
Thor, Juggernaut, Controller

MIGHTY THOR #411 (1st story: pages 7-9)
(same night as MT 411 1st pg. 6, pn. 4-6; perhaps Tuesday, September 21)

QUASAR #6
(must be same morning as CA 367 1st since Peggy notes that Steve is in Washington; Eddie Brock has broken out of the Vault "twice already"; Wendell has a presentation to make "next Monday" and refers to the super powers registration act; FF Ann 24 2nd 2nd FB shows a scene that directly follows this issue but it must be a false story, since Klaw appears in Av Ann 19 3rd FB and AS 29 2nd; perhaps Tuesday, September 28)
Quasar III, Starbrand II (as Kayla Ballantine), Eon, Peggy Carter, Guardsmen, Watcher, Venom, Klaw, Living Laser, Red Ghost

CAPTAIN AMERICA #368 (1st story: beginning)
(same day as CA 367 1st; before Av 312 since the statues in Avengers Park are still standing, so Jarvis' reference to the Mandarin, a reference to Av 313, must be a mistake since that issue has not yet occurred; XM Ann 13 1st is referred to as occurring "last summer" and chronological analysis suggests that indeed that story happened in late June of the summer that has just ended; perhaps Tuesday, September 28)
Captain America, Diamondback II (as Rachel Leighton), Edwin Jarvis, Rankin, Red Skull Robot, Magneto Robot, Crossbones, Black Mamba (as Tanya Sealy), Asp II (as Cleo Nefertiti), King Cobra

PUNISHER #28 (page 13, panel 5-page 22, panel 6)
(one day; "two days" after Pun 28 pg. 13, pn. 1-4 end; the statement that Doom has "96 hours" left of a "week" that started in Pun 28 pg. 1-4 contradicts Castle's own log of his daily activities and Frank's statement that Pun 28 pg. 5-12 occurred "three days ago" -- the log is probably correct; full moon may be topical; perhaps Wednesday, September 29)
Punisher, Microchip, Kingpin, Dr. Doom, Dr. Doom II

AVENGERS ANNUAL #19 (3rd story -- flashback: page 5, panel 7)
(day after Q 6; perhaps late September)

Captain America, Diamondback II (as Rachel Leighton), Edwin Jarvis, Rankin, Red Skull Robot, Magneto Robot, Crossbones, Black Mamba (as Tanya Sealy), Asp II (as Cleo Nefertiti), King Cobra
I'm not sure how much weight I'd attach to the statues still standing- it could be an art error.

I doubt Excalibur 29 takes place during Acts of Vengeance- it takes place after the Cross Time Caper and Quasar 11 takes place relatively shortly after the Cross Time Caper is over. We currently have Excalibur 29 placed after Quasar 11.

Acts of Vengeance for the New Mutants:

NM 83, pg 20-22- Rusty in prison with Vulture. Rusty reads newspaper article about Vault break-out (*footnote: Avengers Spotlight 26 ). Vulture announces his plans to free Nitro in revenge.
NM 84, pg 11-13- Acts of Vengeance has begun (footnote). Vulture receives wings redesigned by the Tinkerer. Decides to hunt him down in revenge for meddling with his designs. Breaks out of prison with Rusty clinging to his legs.
NM 85 pg 22-24- Vulture dumps Rusty in the yard, Rusty frees Skids.
NM 86- Vulture confronts Tinkerer who explains he was paid by the mysterious man who appeared in his computer monitor (Loki) to rebuild Vulture's wings and send Vulture to attack Speedball. Vulture refuses and informs Tinkerer he'll free Nitro from his canister @ Nitro's trial with the Tinkerer's help instead. Rusty & Skids escape in a van from the prison yard and plan to stop the Vulture from releasing Nitro. They arrive just as Vulture has freed Nitro, Rusty battles Vulture and Skids is badly injured trying to contain Nitro's explosion. Freedom Force show up to re-arrest Rusty & Skids. Crimson Commando informs the press of Destiny & Stonewall's recent death (in UX 254-255). [Freedom Force's appearance here must take place after Atlantis Attacks because Storm must appear in Atlantis Attacks Chapters 12-14 (WCA@ 4, T@ 14 & FF@ 22) before UX 248. That means the main "Asgardian adventure" storyline that began in XF 41 and ran continuously from NM 77-88, pg 9) must conclude before UX 248. These sections with Rusty & Skids must therefore take place after Atlantis Attacks but before NM 88, pg 13.]

Acts of Vengeance for X-Factor:
XF 49, pg 16 & 30- Page 16: Apocalypse tries to make sense of Acts of Vengeance, mentions "interesting & bizarre Alliances... Magneto and the Red Skull... the Kingpin and Doctor Doom... and the Wizard." Shown on his screens: top row- Magneto, Mandarin (?), Kingpin, middle row: Juggernaut, Hobgoblin, Foolkiller (?) Doctor Doom, bottom row: Red Skull, Wizard. Page 30: Apocalypse searches for the link between them and brings the mysterious man in the suit (Loki) up onscreen who suddenly praises Apocalypse's insight and then transports himself through Apocalypse's screen. "I offer you the opportunity to join with me... to lead my acts of vengeance here on Earth."
XF 50/2- Continues right from where XF 49 pg 30 left off. "I offer you the chance to join me--to spearhead my acts of vengeance here on Earth!" Loki mentions X-Factor & the New Mutants will soon return to "Midgard from... elsewhere" (footnote: "Asgardian adventures" for the New Mutants). [This footnote may be incorrect because the New Mutants must appear in Atlantis Attacks Chapter 9 (NM@ 5) after the "Asgardian adventure" in NM 87 between pg 27 & 31, then Jean & Beast have to appear in Atlantis Attacks Chapters 10-14 (XF@ 4, WCA@ 4, T@ 14 & FF@ 22) probably in NM 88 between pages 9 & 13 alongside Storm before she is turned into a child in UX 248, as well as everyone else who appeared in Chapters 12-14 before this.] Loki & Apocalypse fight, then Loki leaves.

While we're on the subject of Acts of Vengeance, where are we going to put the flashback in X 32 where Matsuo talks to Mandarin about using Betsy to fix Kwannon? Currently we've got it placed before A 311 but that flashback has to take place after W2 19.
Incidentally, shouldn't the flashback in X 32 take place between pages of UX 256? We've currently got it placed before UX 256, but that doesn't make any sense- if the Mandarin had already agreed to do what Matsuo wanted in the flashback in X 32, then why would Matsuo kill his servants at the start of UX 256? Why would Mandy act like he didn't know who Matsuo was at the beginning of UX 256?

Question: Where does the Atlantis Attacks conclusion (WCA@ 4, T@ 14 & FF@ 22) fall for the rest of the Marvel universe in relation to Acts of Vengeance? Is there a conflict between Psylocke being messed about with by the Mandarin during Acts of Vengeance in UX 256-on with Storm's appearance in those Atlantis Attacks issues (before UX 248)? This ties in with my analysis of The New Mutants' & X-Factor's involvement in both.

UXM #256-258 occur during the tail end of Acts of Vengeance. So no, no conflict.

Iron Man #251-252 - iirc, Iron Man flies off to meet the WCA here.

Thor #411-412
Captain America #366 - ties into the Thor #411-412 Juggy battle

Avengers #312
Avengers West Coast #54
Thor #413 - Thor heads off to the final battle
Avengers #313 - final battle, part 1
Avengers West Coast #55 - final battle, part 2
Avengers Annual #19 - aftermath

I should point out that I do have CA 367 before A 312, not after, and that I have CA 368 occuring in three parts -- between Q 6 and A 312, between A 312 and AWC 54, and during A 313.
Im not working with any captain america (im working in only mutants) issues so i only read whats neccesary, i didnt know CA 368 was connected to Acts of Vengeance so ill read it to see how it fits to the chronology. As a final note i added in bold text the Spider-Man #159 placement i did.

I have ASM 327 and PPTSS 159 the same day as IM 252 and AWC 53, a couple of days before WOSM 60. But, yes, during the tight continuity in the Acts of Vengeance arc.

To answer this question a month later, Atlantis Attacks occurs pretty much right before Acts of Vengeance. There's a couple of instances where there's an appearance or three after Atlantis Attacks and before Acts of Vengeance, but they happen pretty closely together with Atlantis Attacks first. And yet, I see this in the Beast's chronology:

XF 48
XF 49 (Acts of Vengeance)
XF 50
XF 51
NM 88
XF@ 4 (Atlantis Attacks)
AWC@ 4
T@ 14
FF@ 22
XF 52

I realize X-Factor really has nothing to do with Acts of Vengeance, and the only thing that happens is Loki aproaches Apocalypse with a "Meanwhile on Earth" caption(or something similar), but what? Why isn't Atlantis Attacks before X-Factor #43?

My interpretation is that Loki's comment in XF 49 about having already gathered players for Acts of Vengeance is a lie, probably meant to sway Apocalypse at a point in time when Loki was merely planning Acts of Vengeance.

The problem is New Mutants Annual 5. It's part of the Atlantis Attacks crossover but the dialogue makes it clear that it takes place between pages of NM 87. NM 78 takes place concurrently with XF 43, so NM 87 has to take place after XF 43.

But Apocalypse is shown looking at monitors of the villains Loki has gathered, and his dialogue makes it clear the Red Skull is already a member of Loki's cabal.

Not only that but XF 51 (the moment X-Factor returns from their space adventure with the Celestials which began with MN 78/XF 43) clearly takes place between NM 87 & 88 in both dialogue and art in all 3 books.

In fact, to quote myself from earlier in this thread, in XF 49:

Only AFTER that does Loki appear and invite Apocalypse to take part when Apocalypse discovers that he's behind what's going on.

In NM 86, the Tinkerer tells Vulture he got the Vulture's wing designs from man on computer monitor (Loki in disguise) with instructions to rebuild them for the Vulture, free him from prison and send him to attack Speedball. Would this count as a BTS for Loki or would it not count since it is just a mention of an event which took place in the past and isn't shown as a flashback?

Something else I noticed... In NM 86, Crimson Commando tells the press that “Our own teammates, Destiny and Stonewall, have just fallen tragically to scum like them.” referring to UX 255. Since he says "just", I believe he's appearing here (along with Blob & Pyro) right after Freedom Force returns from Scotland. This is correct in Blob & Pyro's listings but needs to be fixed in Crimson Commando's.

Blob
UX 255
XMF 2
NM 86
A 312
PUN2 29
H2 369-FB
H2 369
NM 88

Crimson Commando
UX 255-BTS
NM 86 [< to here]
H2 369-FB
H2 369
NM 86 [from here ^]
NM 88

Pyro
UX 255
XMF 2
NM 86
A 312
PUN2 29
H2 369-FB
H2 369
NM 88

This helps place Rusty, Skids, Tinkerer, Vulture & Nitro's involvement in Acts of Vengeance in NM 83-86 after the events of Avengers Spotlight 26 and before Avengers 312 in the over-all chronology.
