Universe to Universe Cross-Overs

Post by Jason Doty » Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:05 pm

Since 2005, we have been debating several Company Cross-Overs with other publishers. Three that I believe make the cut are the Star Trek/X-Men, Star Trek:The Next Generation/X-Men, and the "Devil's Reign Cross-Over between Marvel and Top-Cow.

I believe they should make the cut on the fact that they do not violate established continuity and they fit the criteria established by the MCP here:
When the Marvel Universe crosses over with another pubilsher's universe, it must be presented as two separate universes crossing, not existing in the same universe, to qualify for a listing (Avengers/JLA being a good example of this). In such a case, we'll list only the Marvel characters, as we're the MARVEL Chronology Project.
If I seem to remember correctly the main objection was that Star Trek:The Next Generation/X-Men continued in a novel and that the MCP does not include novels because the editors or editor of some of the Marvel Novels said they were not canon. It's been a long time. Even though the novel may not be up for inclusion, I still believe the comics should be.

I don't think there were any real objections to the Devil's Reign Cross-Over. I believe I suggested placement in past posts, but I'll have to scan the archives. I'd really like to know the continuity problems with these since they seem to adhere to the rules on cross-overs above?

I just found and went through and read the older posts from the Archives.

Placement suggestions can be found in mcparc56 (Feb 2005) for both Star Trek/X-Men and Star Trek: The Next Generation/X-Men.

The lengthy discussion about whether or not they should be considered canon was in mcparc67 (Jan 2006). Highlights included "pop culture refrences, editorial intent, and canocity of novels.

Devil's Reign placement and discussion was in mcparc79 (Jan 2007). I did not see any objections to this cross-over.

On another note, in another discussion, I believe Proteus status was brought up about the end of the Kings of Pain crossover that ended in X-Factor Annual no.6 and his recent resurrection in Uncanny X-Men. Quoting the comic Proteus says "Good-bye mothers--we leave this world the way we found it...forever flawed...and we choose to go...someplace better..."

To me that leaves an opening for the Star Trek/X-Men cross-over after he "leaves the world for someplace better." His ressurection in Uncanny X-Men would have been from his original body, which he "used up" between UX 104 and UX 125. He was then ressurected by Selene, by what ever means Selene was using to ressurect the dead in the Necrosha storyline. To be ressurected in the first place he would have to have been killed or destroyed, which I believe he was at the end of the cross-over.

It's pretty clear in the X-Men Legacy storyline that Proteus was accidently resurrected along with Destiny (because his dispersed molecules were on her dead body or something). Nothing about his original human body ,and Selene had no intention of resurrecting him.
