Eurohit and more

Post by Paul Bourcier »

I’d like to suggest some chronology changes. Check this out:

KINGPIN

WOSM 86
PUN2 64-FB
PUN2 65
PUN2 66
PUN2 67-BTS
PUN2 68-BTS
PUN2 69
PUN2 70
PUN:GI 1
PUN:GI 2
TM:BB
DD 298
DD 299
DD 300

I believe that DD 298 follows closely on the heels of WOSM 86, so I question the placement of all those Punisher issues between DD 298 and WOSM 86.

PUN2 64-70 constitute the Eurohit story arc, which I believe occurs out of sequence with other issues of PUN2 and needs to be placed before PUN2 53. Here’s why:

PUN2 53-59 constitute The Final Days story arc. At the end of this arc, Punisher’s skin is turned black, and his story picks up in PUN2 60-62. In PUN2 62, his skin turns back to white. In PUN2 61, Kingpin henchman George Tam meets with a Chicago crime lord, who tells him that “you don’t have the Kingpin’s pull behind you anymore.” To me, this is a reference to Kingpin’s downfall in DD 300, which was published two months before PUN2 61. I believe Kingpin’s downfall in DD 298-300 was intended to occur between Fisk’s appearance in PUN2 59 and Tam’s appearance in PUN2 61, during a time when Punisher is helping Luke Cage fight crime in Chicago as the black “Frank Rook.”

PUN2 64-70 were written by a different creative team than PUN2 53-62, and each issue of the Eurohit story arc notes that it occurs before DD 300, since Kingpin is still in power in Eurohit. Because PUN2 53-62 are continuous for Punisher and PUN2 61 must occur after DD 300, then Castle has to appear in PUN2 64-70 (pre-DD 300) before PUN2 53.

Moving PUN2 64-70 before PUN2 53 eliminates most, but not all, of the issues listed between WOSM 86 and DD 298. Now we have PUN:GI 1-2, in which Kingpin is still in power. PUN:GI 1-2 must occur before Kingpin’s downfall and thus before PUN2 53 for Castle. PUN:GI 1-2 were published after the Eurohit issues, so I’d place them after PUN2 70, just like we have them now…only before PUN2 53.

Now we’re left with TM:BB (which we need to break down into page/panel ranges at some point, since this issue takes years to occur). In this comic, Kingpin tells Maltese, “Dealing with Howard Nees and the Punisher must occupy my full attention for now.” Nees dies in PUN2 54 and is first mentioned as being a thorn in Fisk’s side in PUN2 53. I’m inclined to place Kingpin in TM:BB right before PUN2 53.

Thus…

I don’t think that moving Eurohit would alter the chronologies of other characters who appear in that arc.

Whatcha think?

I don't see a problem with it. Microchip isn't in his "makeover" look in Eurohit, is he? I know that didn't last long before he was back to being fat and dark haired (he became skinnier with a beard and blonde hair in the Final Days). But that would probably be the only problem posed with such a move since it was pretty much the only change to the status quo, and even then I seem to recall him changing back pretty quickly.

Microchip looks like his usual self in Eurohit, at least to me.
