Hope this topic doesn't suck! Spidey problem from 1994...

I'm not sure about this one, so please bear with me. I don't know how exactly you guys determine where an issue belongs or why, but I'm making an effort to organize the Clone Saga in perfect chronological order. In my case that includes crossovers with DC, the Ultraverse, etc. because I can see how they interact with the canon stuff (or make up excuses for certain things), and because it's more fun that way. However, the crossover stuff isn't what I'm here to discuss today. I'm here to ask about Prowler #1 and how it's supposed to take place immediately following Spider-Man #46. Spider-Man #46 is dated May 1994, and Prowler #1 is dated November 1994. I'm sure that Prowler #1 could have taken place sometime in the middle of the "Back from the Edge" storyline which began in November.

You all must go really in-depth with this stuff. I though I did, but you've probably got me beat. Does it have to do with how many days pass within respective titles? Spidey's temperament? He was slipping into a very dark mood around that time, and I noticed in Prowler #1 he wasn't all angry and vicious, but I believe he becomes that way in later appearances in the Prowler mini. Help me out here, guys! Is it an error or is that really where it belongs?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, vapidsage.

First of all, regrettably, I don't keep notes detailing why we make the placements we do; the notes would quickly spiral out of control. Some of the other guys here do a better job of that than I do.

The Prowler title is an interesting animal.

Spider-Man appears in #1, and we would normally defer to the recent Spider-Man Index for his chronology. There are a number of discrepancies between the Index and the MCP for this period, but it appears that the Index has forgotten about Prowler entirely, so the Index is really no help here.

Secondly, it appears we've missed issues 2-4 (not sure how that happened), so I'll need to add them to the Checklist.

Finally, we have a rule of thumb here. Once a chronology appears on the Project, it's usually not enough to question a placement, to get us to change it. It's usually not even enough to suggest what you feel is a better placement.

If you want to get the Prowler book moved, the first step is to show why the current placement simply cannot work.

The second step is to suggest an alternate placement, for every character appearing in the book.

Then we'll discuss it and argue it and toss it back & forth for many months, and if
1) you've stated your position clearly, and either
2a) you've addressed everyone's objections, or
2b) no one raises an objection, then
your suggestion will one day be incorporated into the Project.

In any case, thanks for helping bring to our attention that we're missing PROWL 2-4.

I understand what you're saying, Russ. The thing is, I guess I would like to know what you guys work off of in general. I'm not really confident enough to say that it should be moved yet. I'm still working out a number of other things in my own Clone Saga chronology, and once I know what details I'm working with, I'll be able to say with more certainty that it should be moved and why. Then again, if I only knew what you guys were basing it off of, I could correct any flawed work of my own with your information.

All of that said, if you don't have any notes, I guess you really can't help. Nonetheless, having looked at the notes on Prowler that Michel linked to, I'm beginning to understand why it might have to take place prior to "Back From the Edge". I'd have to look at what The Vulture does in more detail.

SO...maybe I'll get back to you once I've studied it. I'm going to look at everything, including how many days pass for Prowler and for Spider-Man in his own books during the same period, and figure it out.
