FF 176

There are a whole bunch of comics placed during FF 176. I see why; the Thing has his powers returned to him in FF 175, and the FF don’t return to Earth until FF 176. The end of FF 176 leads directly into FF 177… and so on.

However, I’m not seeing where a break can happen in FF 176. The Impossible Man appears before the FF return to Earth. They’re chasing the Impossible Man around town through the issue and don’t return to the Baxter Building until the end… with the Impossible Man’s help. As soon as they arrive at the Baxter Building, the Frightful Four attack them, while they’re in mid-conversation with the Impossible Man. It’s a continuous chain of events.

So, where’s the break in FF 176? I’m stumped.

I quote from the entry for FF 176 in The Official Index to the Fantastic Four #10:
"Impossible as it may seem, there is a three-month break in the middle of this story in between panels 6 and 7 of page 7...Members of the Fantastic Four make numerous appearances...during that interval, which is necessitated by the constraints of the Thing regaining his superhuman strength at the end of the previous issue and Mr. Fantastic losing his stretching power near the end of issue #178. In the first part of this story, the Fantastic Four and the Impossible Man return from Counter-Earth and land in Central Park Lake in mid-November....They then go to the Baxter Building, and after settling in for the winter, they participate in the adventures noted below [the issues we have listed during FF 176]. Then, during a mild spell in mid-February, the four teammates and the Impossible Man take a walk through Central Park that leads to their visit to the Marvel Comics offices in the second part of this story. When the Thing says, 'Well, anyway, here we are, back in Fun City,' in panel 7, page 7 of this story, he is referring to his recent sojourn in the Bermuda Triangle, which ended days before, in MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE #36."

The Index also explains that the Reed Richards of Counter-Earth who stowed away in the first part of the story spent the whole winter in the bottom of Central Park Lake, comatose from the crash.
