NIGHTSIDE #1-4 should be removed from the Checklist and added to the non-canon list.

According to the author, Nightside takes place in the Marvel Universe. Is that claim contradicted somewhere?

It's creator owned, right? It was published somewhere else first(if I remember right, in an anthology called Paths of the Brave... or something) and Weinberg still holds the rights. As I understand it, creator owned characters aren't officially canon to 616. That may be different for us, though. Has a creator owned series made it into the listings?

Where was this said? I didn't read the comic, but I seem to recall Weinberg saying it was off in his own world, which was one of the reasons I didn't get it.

It was Path of the Bold! Sorry about that.

See, that's what I remember. But then again, I couldn't remember the name of the anthology...

"According to the author, Nightside takes place in the Marvel Universe."

If it does, then it would fit very awkwardly with other depictions of vampires and werewolves in the Marvel Universe. According to this series:

*The supernatural creatures of the Earth have formed a sub-order of humanity known as "the Others".
*After facing persecution from mainstream humanity, they started operating in secrecy.
*Eventually coalitions and criminal organizations emerged within their ranks. At the beginning of the series five major factions situated in New York City have formed the "East Board Council" which supposedly controlled all activities of the supernatural mob in the East Coast of the United States:Vampires, Werewolves, Ogres, Little People and a fifth faction of giantic proportions, nick-named the "Big People". Various minor supernatural races like the ghouls and the weretigers were working for the big ones.
*Unaffiliated supernaturals were not even mentioned. No room for Dracula or Jack Russel ,for example, to have independant activities.

Umm...well, Kull, (the Robert E. Howard character) has a listing, and all the other Howard characters will eventually be added...

Just because the Marvel Universe's Dracula and Jack Russell weren't mentioned doesn't mean they couldn't be out there, having their own adventures seperate from the Vampires and other creatures shown in this mini-series.

I've moved this thread to the Marvel universe forum for further discussion. If someone can provide better evidence this isn't canon, then I'll gladly remove it from the Checklist.
Keeping track of Bendis References since 2001!

It's worth noting, though, that Conan, Kull, Rom, Micronauts, et al, are unquestionably part of the Marvel Universe.

I finally had some time to look around the internet, and as it turns out it only took me twelve minutes to find this:
Robert Weinberg wrote:"With CABLE, I couldn't really change the character very much. I had to make sure that the background stayed true to the Marvel Universe, which is somewhat different than ours," says Weinberg. "In NIGHTSIDE, the characters are mine. I know how they act, what they think, and most of all, what their world is like. And it's definitely not the Marvel Universe."
So there it is. The writer of the series says Nightside doesn't take place in the Marvel Universe.(I knew I wasn't crazy!)

I guess we don't need an analysis after all, but if anyone felt so inclined I wouldn't mind seeing one.
