The X-Men break into a SHIELD facility and find out SHIELD knows less about Magneto than they do. Also, the X-Men continue to fight the Brotherhood. Storm and Beast chat about their relationship, and Professor X and Nightcrawler chat while being held in a SHIELD prison.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #30 (May, 2003)

SYNOPSIS:
Magneto prepares to use Forge’s power amplifier to reverse the Earth’s magnetic poles; this would kill pretty much everyone on the planet, leaving mostly mutants behind. Cyclops wakes up in Magneto’s citadel; Magneto’s people didn’t know they picked up Cyclops, they thought he was just a random mutant. Cyclops signals the X-Men and everyone fights. Magneto sends a signal to destroy a nuclear facility in Florida.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #31 (May, 2003)

Later, Cyclops thinks about whether to accept Wolverine’s apology for trying to kill him in the Savage Land.

Marvel Girl destroys the nuclear reactor, saving everyone. Cyclops kicks Wolverine off the team. The X-Men become heroes in the eyes of the public, and the US government agrees to put the Xavier school under SHIELD’s jurisdiction. Three months later, the Xavier school throws a party.

NOTE:
Betsy Braddock is now in an Asian body; when she died she transferred her consciousness into a comatose body. The girl in the coma’s name was Kwannon.

Also, apparently the Phoenix stuff is a multiple personality in Jean’s head.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #33 (July, 2003)

SYNOPSIS:
Jean freaks out because she killed the Weapon X people. They aren’t dead, though, and are fired by their boss. The X-Men attack the weapon X people (how did they find them?) and Tara kills her fellow soldiers and then herself. Dugan from SHIELD arrives and chastises the X-Men for letting the Weapon X people die before finding out who their boss was.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #40 (February, 2004)

The President has one of Fury’s SHIELD operatives, Karma, look through his brain to see if he’s been mentally manipulated; he wasn’t. Cyclops and Marvel Girl chat about her powers and their relationship. Xavier sends some of the X-Men to recruit Dazzler, a rock singer. Dazzler says no, and mentions she was already approached by someone else. Storm discovers that Beast has left the school. The President decides he needs his own team of public mutants, so he chats with Emma Frost.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #43 (May, 2004)

The President’s staff reveal themselves (to us) as the villains who hired Weapon X to attack Wolverine, and decide they need to do something else. Nick Fury arrives at the school to talk with Xavier.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #44 (June, 2004)

The X-Men go to save the President but during the fight, Beast is crushed under some rubble.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #45 (July, 2004)
