STAR-LORD #1 (January 2016)
By Sam Humphries & Javier Garron

APPEARANCES:
Peter Quill (also in fb & rfb), Freddie (mechanic), Officer Brockman (officer in NASA’s Asterion One space program), Hastings (female test pilot), Isaac (male test pilot), Cmdr. Lisa Chang (also in fb), Meredith Quill (in fb & rfb), Yondu (space pirate, in shadows) & a Ravager (voice only), NASA’s Asterion One space program personnel (Kelly named)

FLASHBACK:
Meredith Quill is killed by aliens while Peter watches (repeat of GOTG3 0.1-FB; no new information). Young Peter Quill plays with toy planes with his mother Meredith and her friend Lisa Chang (new).
SYNOPSIS:
Twelve years ago, Peter Quill (now 18 years old) works as a mechanic in NASA’s Asterion One space program (a mission for humans to colonize other planets), but he wants to be an astronaut. He was given the job by the program’s director Cmdr. Lisa Chang, a friend of Peter’s mother, but when Peter gets into a fistfight with a test pilot, it’s discovered that Peter’s been logging illegal simulator hours and is fired. Realizing that he’s losing his chance to get into space, Peter steals the program’s Kree Warbird (donated by the Avengers) and figures out how to activate the ship’s warpdrive. The activity is noticed by nearby space pirates, who have been looking for the Kree Warbird. Cmdr. Chang is overjoyed that Peter was able to activate the warpdrive, because the data she recorded means the space program will continue. However, Peter becomes stranded in space when the Warbird turns itself off.

NOTE:
The Avengers donated the Kree Warbird to NASA. It’s not stated anywhere, but for some reason I have it in my head that this is after the Kree/Skrull War.

STAR-LORD #2 (February 2016)
By Sam Humphries & Javier Garron

APPEARANCES:
Peter Quill (also in fb), Meredith Quill (in fb), Yondu & his Ravagers (space pirates), Cmdr. Lisa Chang, Brockman, Hastings, Isaac

FLASHBACK:
Meredith takes young Peter on a space-themed amusement park ride (new).
SYNOPSIS:
Yondu and his Ravagers pick up Peter Quill and the Kree Warbird. After some shenanigans, Peter convinces Yondu to let him live and become a member of the Ravagers crew… as a janitor. Meanwhile, Cmdr. Chang (who wonders if Peter is somehow still alive out in space) leads the Asterion One on its first mission into space.

NOTE:
Yondu mentions he’s from Centauri IV, and describes his race as (basically) a bunch of primitives. He didn’t like living like that so he left and became a space pirate. I guess Centauri IV stays that way for another 1,000 years (give or take), because that’s how it still is in the future of Earth-691 (where the classic Yondu and the Guardians of the Galaxy hail from). I suppose “Yondu” is a fairly common name on Centauri IV…

STAR-LORD #3 (March 2016)
By Sam Humphries & Javier Garron

APPEARANCES:
Peter Quill (also in rfb), Yondu & his Ravagers (Czar named), Meredith Quill (in rfb), Jacques (alien) & his partner in crime, Cmdr. Lisa Chang (in fb & rfb), Brockman (in fb), Hastings (in fb), Isaac (in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Young Peter Quill plays with toy planes with his mother Meredith and her friend Lisa Chang (repeat of SLORD 1-FB; no new information). Recently, the Asterion One flew past a Kymelion probe drone (new).
SYNOPSIS:
Peter Quill chats with Yondu about wanting to find the Badoon ship that killed his mom (or rather, the ship that carried the crew that did it) and mentions that Earth just launched a ship with four warpdrives, and that he’s the one who figured out how to work them. Yondu offers to take Quill on a mission; when Quill helps complete the easy mission, Yondu and the Ravagers take him out for a night of fun, secretly paying aliens (to throw fights, to smooch with him, stuff like that) to boost Quill’s confidence. Once Quill’s drunk, Yondu offers to make Quill a full-time member of the Ravagers, and if Quill helps the Ravagers steal the Asterion One they’ll give him the tracker for the Badoon ship he’s looking for.

STAR-LORD #4 (April 2016)
By Sam Humphries & Javier Garron

APPEARANCES:
Peter Quill, Yondu & his Ravagers (inc Czar), Cmdr. Lisa Chang, Brockman, Hastings, Isaac

SYNOPSIS:
The Ravagers board the Asterion One, thanks to Peter Quill disabling the ship’s shields. The Asterion One crew quickly recognize Quill, and Cmdr. Chang tries to talk Quill into helping them against the Ravagers. Instead, Quill takes the tracking device for the Badoon ship and prepares to leave in the Ravagers’ ship.

STAR-LORD #5 (May 2016)
By Sam Humphries & Javier Garron

APPEARANCES:
Peter Quill, Yondu & his Ravagers (inc Czar), Cmdr. Lisa Chang, Brockman, Hastings, Isaac

SYNOPSIS:
Peter Quill decides to save the Asterion One instead of leaving them behind. He dumps the Ravagers’ treasure stash to distract them, but Yond doesn’t fall for it and goes after Quill as he tries to get back to the Asterion One. Yondu steals back the tracking gem for the Badoon ship, so Quill has to decide between revenge for his mother or surviving; he chooses to return to the Asterion One and survive. Later, after the Asterion One has set up its colony on an alien world, Peter Quill decides to become a space adventurer, and takes the name Star-Lord.

NOTE:
Apparently, Peter Quill got the name “Star-Lord” from a vacuum cleaner.

The art in this mini is fantastic, in my opinion.

Two things. First, Yondu was actually exiled from Centauri IV because the other Centaurians thought that he was "a little too rough and tumble" for them and "would never make a good Centaurian." They also cut off his "headfin" while exiling him.

Second, the Centauri IV from Reality-616 was finally seen in the Infinity miniseries but so little information was revealed about it that it's uncertain how advanced their civilization was. On the one hand, the fact that their elite warriors are "bowmasters" suggests a primitive level of technology. On the other hand, the Centaurians are clearly well aware of the existence of alien races and it's implied that their world is an old one. Plus, there have been a number of present-day 616 Centaurians (Chandra, Delphinia, Samaya and all of the Centaurian Inhumans) who work with advanced technology.

Which is quite a coincidence since GOTG #0.1 revealed that "Star-Lord" is actually a Spartox title which Peter inherited from his father.

To be complete, Legendary Star-Lord #1 has a flashback to immediately after Meredith Quill's funeral showing young Peter standing at his mother's grave with a priest, Father James, offering him advice and telling Peter that it's now up to him to determine the course of his own life. This should be placed tight after GOTG3 0.1-FB.
