Savage Wolverine #9-11 & 14-23

Post by Col_Fury » Fri Feb 24, 2017 5:40 am

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #9 (November 2013)
By Jock

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Kouen, aliens

SYNOPSIS:
Wolverine crash lands on an alien planet. He wakes up to find it desolate, and kills various creatures for food. Meanwhile, an alien sends a young boy out to find Wolverine. The kid finds him, says there are more like him, and this fancy green serum can save his friends.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #10 (December 2013)
By Jock

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Kouen, aliens

SYNOPSIS:
Armed people-like aliens attack Wolverine and the kid; they abducted the kid and left Wolverine to die in an explosion (so why send the kid after Wolverine in the first place? Why give the kid some serum to give to Wolverine if they were just going to kill Wolverine?). Wolverine survives (of course), rescues the kid and crashes the escape pod into a lab.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #11 (January 2014)
By Jock

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Kouen, aliens

SYNOPSIS:
Wolverine and the kid find a bunch of other kids in stasis tubes. Another alien attacks and Wolverine learns all the kids are clones of himself. He kills the alien, then uses the serum to kill all the kids in stasis (the serum was poison all along; what?). Wolverine names the kid “Kouen” (who also has an adamantium-laced skeleton and claws), and the two wait for other aliens to arrive so they can kill them, too. THE END!

NOTE:
Jock clarified in interviews that this story is set in the future.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #14 (March 2014)
By Richard Isanov

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine & a bunch of nobodies we’ll never see again (I could list them all, like Sofia & Vicky, but really, we’ll never ever see them after this)

SYNOPSIS:
November, 1933: Logan’s a booze smuggler! He’s caught by Mounties outside Ontario, but escapes and crashes with his pal Elias (and Elias’ kids). Mobsters show up, kill Elias because he refused to be extorted, and kidnaps one of his daughters (Sofia). Logan eventually gets off his lazy butt and goes to Minneapolis to rescue Sofia (actually, he needed time to heal, but, you know).

NOTE:
The cover says “014.NOW” but the indicia just says “No. 14.”

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #15 (April 2014)
By Richard Isanov

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine & a bunch of schmucks

FLASHBACK:
1920: Origin of the mobsters! Oh, if only people didn’t bully each other…
SYNOPSIS:
1933: Wolverine rescues Sofia and injures the mobsters. He takes Sofia and her siblings to a transient camp outside St. Paul, but is eventually arrested when he’s recognized.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #16 (May 2014)
By Richard Isanov

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, some kids, some cops, some mobsters

SYNOPSIS:
The mobsters try to kill Logan while he’s in jail. The cops die, the mobsters are injured and when Logan gets back to the transient camp they find one of the kids (Vicky) has died from the consumption (gasp!).

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #17 (June 2014)
By Richard Isanov

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine (also in fb) & everyone dies except Sofia (who’s also in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Logan takes the (surviving) kids to their aunt and uncle (why didn’t he do that first?) and goes to a diner. He overhears that mobsters have arrived in town, so he returns to the aunt and uncles place to find the mobsters had killed the uncle and cut out one of Sofia’s eyes. Logan kills the mobsters.
SYNOPSIS:
In the current day, Wolverine visits Sofia in a retirement home; she tells him about the great life she had thanks to him.

NOTE:
This issue reveals Logan met Elias during WWI.

For the current day portion, I have this after W&X 42 and before the W6 2-3-FBs in the map.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #18 (July 2014)
By Jen Van Meter & Rich Ellis

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Walter Cronkite, Lee Harvey Oswald (both on live TV), John F. Kennedy (mentioned only), bystanders (some named, but we’ll never see them again)

SYNOPSIS:
November, 1963: Logan breaks up tensions between locals and a biker gang, but everyone forgets their problems when the news reports that the President has been assassinated.

NOTE:
Here we have Wolverine learning that Kennedy was assassinated. There’s also W2 49-FB, where he’s with Team X in Cuba when he learned that Kennedy was assassinated. He’s obviously not in Cuba with Team X here, so…

In this comic, Wolverine sees on TV that Kennedy was killed the day it happened (November 22), as Oswald is being arrested. In W2 49-FB, he hears about it (again on TV) two days after it happened, when Oswald was killed by Jack Ruby (November 24). So there’s no problem (he must have already known in W2 49-FB despite appearances), but Wolverine must have gone to Cuba pretty quick after this.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #19 (July 2014)
By Gail Simone & Neil Edwards

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine (also in fb), Jubilee (also in fb), Professor X, Cyclops, A.I.M. agents

FLASHBACK:
Jubilee convinces Wolverine to let her tag along on a road trip (yesterday).
SYNOPSIS:
Wolverine and Jubilee have been captured by A.I.M., who have hooked them up to machines to make them live fantasies. Wolverine breaks out but Jubilee still thinks she’s a big time super hero and Wolverine’s her sidekick. They defeat the A.I.M. agents and Professor X and Cyclops swing by to pick them up in the Blackbird.

NOTE:
Shortly (but not immediately) after Jubilee joined the X-Men and started staying at the X-Mansion. Cyclops is in his Jim Lee outfit, but Wolverine’s only in street clothes. However, in Jubilee’s fantasy, Wolverine’s in his brown uniform, so before he switched back to tiger stripes (so, before W2 50).

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #20 (August 2014)
By Frank Tieri & Felix Ruiz

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine (also in fb), Sabretooth (also bts in fb), Al Capone (in fb), George “Bugs” Moran (in fb), Peter Gusenberg (corpse), Frank Gusenberg (corpse), Albert Kachellek (corpse), Adam Heyer (corpse), Reindhardt Schwimmer (corpse), Albert Weinshank (corpse), John May (corpse), Molly Barker (in fb), gangsters (in fb)

FLASHBACK:
In Chicago, Logan is a booze runner for Bugs Moran until his girlfriend Molly is killed. Logan thinks it’s Al Capone, but Capone says he was framed and tells Logan to meet the killer at an address on Valentine’s Day (previous three days).
SYNOPSIS:
February 14, 1929: Logan wakes up after being shot in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and is greeted by Sabretooth (formerly working for Capone). Sabretooth taunts Logan and tries to get him to come around to his way of thinking. Logan refuses, so Sabretooth leaves. Logan visits Molly’s grave.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #21 (September 2014)
By John Arcudi & Joe Quinones

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Lt. “Link” Bellamy, Capt. Egon Hiban, soldiers

SYNOPSIS:
1918: It’s near the end of the Great War, and Logan is fighting with the Canadians. Also on the team is a telepath with polio; the rest are regular soldiers. They have to take a bridge before the Germans can destroy it.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #22 (October 2014)
By John Arcudi & Joe Quinones

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine, Lt. “Link” Bellamy, Capt. Egon Hiban, soldiers

SYNOPSIS:
1918: Logan eventually kills the Germans when he flies into a berserker rage. Later (on November 11), he celebrates the end of the war in Paris.

SAVAGE WOLVERINE #23 (November 2014)
By John Arcudi & Joe Quinones

APPEARANCES:
Wolverine (also in fb), mercenaries

FLASHBACK:
James Howlett lives in the wilderness with the wolves.
SYNOPSIS:
Wolverine is being hunted by mercenaries in Canada. Wounded, he hides out with some wolves. When the mercenaries start killing the wolves to pass the time, Wolverine kills all the mercenaries.

NOTE:
For some reason I have it in my head that this takes place when Wolverine’s still with Alpha Flight. Maybe it’s because poison can still affect him, he has metal claws and he’s in Canada? Who knows, but honestly, it could go pretty much anywhere after he gets the metal skeleton and when he has a working healing factor. Oh, he has a nose, so not during W2 100-120.

SAVW 1-8 & 12-13 take place in the current day, and are placed in the map; #1-8 are after W2 314-317 and shortly before Avengers v5, and #12-13 are right before Wolverine v5.
