He enters the astral plane where he’s attacked and killed.

KORVAC SAGA #3 (October 2015)

KORVAC SAGA #4 (November 2015)
By Dan Abnett & Otto Schmidt

APPEARANCES:
Forest Hills: Martinex, Nicholette Gold, Major Victory, Charlie-27, Yondu Udonta, Michael Korvac, Starhawk, Geena Drake
Holy Woods: Wonder Man, Yellowjacket, Hercules, Moondragon, Black Panther, Black Widow, Jocasta, Vision, Captain Marvel
various unnamed Thors

SYNOPSIS:
Korvac realizes the world is wrong and he must defeat Doom to restore it. Starhawk arrives and links everyone’s minds, showing them what Korvac knows: there used to me a multiverse of worlds, but it was destroyed and assembled into Battleworld by Doom. The Thors arrives and purge both the Forest Hills and Holy Woods Domains, burning them off the face of the planet. As he dies, Korvac secretly saves the Guardians; they decide to live on Battleworld in secret as he ones who know what used to be.

NOTE:
Despite there being two Domains and two Barons, these regions share a history; Captain Marvel and Major Victory agree that the Guardians could have sided with Wonder Man and he Avengers could have sided with Korvac, instead of the way it happened. This tells me this is one reality that was divided in two by politics.

Are you sure that the Michael Korvac, Geena Drake and five of the Guardians (Vance Astro, Charlie-27, Martinex, Starhawk and Yondu) from this miniseries weren't actually from Reality-691? After all, according to the GUARDIANS 3000 series, Geena Drake was a "Cosmic Constant" who was "singular" in the multiverse and she was from a 31st Century Earth which had been conquered by the Badoon. And those five Guardians were with Geena when everything went black at the end of GUARDIANS 3000 #8.

Of course, that series also established that Geena's "origin era (was) nothing more than the echo of a universe that has already perished. Fragments of alternate realities and broken dimensional iterations grind against each other, meaninglessly. The debris of a doomed reality." So, maybe not the exact same Reality-691 we knew for decades but some variant of that future time, not an alternate 21st Century Earth reality as Earth-61119 seems to be.

By the way, this series revealed/claimed that the destruction of the Guardians' future reality was the result of Korvac's reformatting of the multiverse from his base in Forest Hills on Earth-616 in 2015 A.D. However, Korvac's efforts were ultimately thwarted by the actual Incursion which even he was not powerful enough to stop. And then there was just Geena when time ran out and the entire multiverse failed.

I'm not sure how much stock to put into claims of singular beings in the multiverse anymore. At one point, off the top of my head, Rachel Summers, the Phoenix Force and Mojo were all said to be singular entities in the multiverse, and all have since been disproven (right?). Heck, there's now a new Living Tribunal, isn't there?

Having said that, the Geena Drake from Guardians 3000 was on Earth during the final incursion along with everyone else. Magneto-616 (for example) didn't make it through the incursion to Battleworld, and he was in the same circumstance as Geena Drake. Why would she make it and not anyone else?

Given everything we know (and there's plenty we don't; this crossover seems designed largely to obfuscate), the safest assumption seems to be that this is just some alternate reality whose staring point largely reflects that of the Korvac Saga story circa Avengers #167-177 and then went in a different direction (with the Guardians staying behind in the present).

Of course, if/when some future story clarifies things we can always adjust. :)

I really like this mini, by the way. I've have a soft spot for these Guardians characters.
