Planet Hulk #1-5

Post by Col_Fury »

PLANET HULK #1 (July 2015)
By Sam Humphries & Marc Laming

APPEARANCES:
Unknown Domain: Captain (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Bucky Barnes (in fb)
Valley of the Flame: Devil (a Devil Dinosaur)
Greenland: Red King, Doc Green, various unnamed Hulks
Doomstadt: Arcade
various Wolverines
various Thors (one looks like he has a Magneto helmet, another could be a Tarene)
Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange

FLASHBACK:
Steve and Bucky fight alongside each other during wartime.
SYNOPSIS:
Thors notice that Greenland is getting out of control again. Meanwhile, the Captain and his Devil fight in the Killiseum. He wins, and when Arcade congratulates him he attacks Arcade, demanding to know where Bucky is. The Captain is subdued and brought to Doom and Strange. They send him to Greenland to kill the Red King, with the promise of finding Bucky (who had previously been sent to Greenland for this task). Steve agrees and eventually meets Strange’s agent Doc Green.

NOTE:
Any cameos of the Captain at the Killiseum will have to be before this, since he leaves here.

2nd Story:
By Greg Pak & Takeshi Miyazawa

APPEARANCES:
Bruce Banner, Amadeus Cho, Gabe Jones, various bystanders turned into Hulks

SYNOPSIS:
Banner and Cho are doing experiments with Gamma radiation; Cho wants to make Gamma-irradiated pigs so there can be more bacon to eat. AIM attacks, so Cho unleashes Gamma radiation on the populace to fight back. Over time the radiation will spread and everyone will be a Hulk.

NOTE:
A strip in Secret Wars Journal has a story set in this world after the initial exposure but before the current day. Yes, everyone became a Hulk, but society didn’t fall apart until pretty much everyone lost control of their anger.

PLANET HULK #2 (August 2015)
By Sam Humphries & Marc Laming

APPEARANCES:
”a forgotten kingdom”: Captain (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Bucky Barnes (in fb)
Valley of the Flame: Devil (a Devil Dinosaur)
Greenland: Doc Green, various unnamed Hulks

FLASHBACK:
Steve and Bucky decide to join the super soldier program to do their part during wartime (Captain America/Sam Wilson is on the poster for the program).
SYNOPSIS:
Doc Green guides the Captain through Greenland.

NOTE:
Doc Green says he’s met several Steve Rogers’; one with a robot arm, one with the mutant gene and one with wings.

PLANET HULK #3 (September 2015)
By Sam Humphries & Marc Laming

APPEARANCES:
”a forgotten kingdom”: Captain (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Bucky Barnes (in fb)
Valley of the Flame: Devil (a Devil Dinosaur)
Greenland: Doc Green, various unnamed Hulks
Apocalypse Domain: Holocaust (in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Steve and Bucky fight Holocaust.
SYNOPSIS:
Steve and Doc Green make their way across Greenland.

NOTE:
In the flashback, Steve says both he and Bucky are super soldiers. That’s not a code name for them; they’re part of a program.

PLANET HULK #4 (October 2015)
By Sam Humphries & Marc Laming

APPEARANCES:
”a forgotten kingdom”: Captain (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Bucky Barnes (corpse, also in fb)
Valley of the Flame: Devil (a Devil Dinosaur, also in fb)
Greenland: Doc Green, Red King, various unnamed Hulks
Doomstadt: Arcade (vo in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Steve, Bucky and the Devil fight in the Killiseum.
SYNOPSIS:
Doc Green gets Steve to the Red King‘s castle. Steve confronts the Red King and demands he release Bucky. The Red King reveals he killed Bucky a long time ago and shows Steve what’s left of him.

NOTE:
Steve mentions that his Domain is now part of the Apocalypse Domain, annexed by Holocaust. I guess the whole war effort was to fight that off (and it failed).

PLANET HULK #5 (November 2015)
By Sam Humphries & Marc Laming

APPEARANCES:
”a forgotten kingdom”: Captain (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Bucky Barnes (corpse, also in fb)
Valley of the Flame: Devil (a Devil Dinosaur, also in fb)
Greenland: Doc Green (Steve Rogers, also in fb), Red King, Bucky Barnes (in fb), various unnamed Hulks
Doctor Doom (in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Steve and Bucky before, during and after the war. Steve Rogers of Greenland is angry when Bucky dies, He signs up for the super soldier program (again, Sam Wilson’s on the poster) and is turned into a Hulk. At one point he meets Doctor Doom.
SYNOPSIS:
Enraged, Steve kills the Red King. Doc Green arrives and congratulates him, then reveals that he’s he Steve Rogers of Greenland. Enraged again, that he let him believe Bucky was still alive, Steve kills his analogue. He and he Devil leave Greenland and begin to wander Battleworld.

NOTE:
The Holocaust seen in his mini really does seem to be from the Apocalypse Domain. Where did I get the idea that Apocalypse would recruit his horsemen from annexed Domains?

The Domain Steve came from is never named, and was annexed a while back by Holocaust for Apocalypse. So this means Steve isn’t from the generic “Doomstadt” reality, or the Apocalypse Domain reality. He’s from somewhere else. I’ll have to see what I can dig up.

It's been a while, but isn't it implied that the Age of Apocalypse Realm and the Forgotten Realm are one and the same?

Never mind. I see your looking into it.

Steve says the big red T-Rex "is Devil Dinosaur" more than once in the series.

Where does it say that? Note, he's gamma-irradiated as part of the Gamma Powers Program BEFORE Cho's little hiccup.

Also, this can just be after he "bent his knee" to Apocalypse, yes?

Well, he's ranting about his Gamma philosophy through the entire mini, for one. He seems pretty rooted in the Domain, to me at least.

Also, yes, Steve would have been irradiated before Cho's Gamma tests on pigs to make better bacon. Wartime technology eventually finds it's way into the private sector, after all. :)
