One night Miles tries to pickpocket a man in the bar, Malacca Jack’s. The man stops him before he’s able to steal any money, but the bartender throws them both outside into an alley. Miles thinks he’ll just stab the man and take the money, and decides to scare the man by claiming to be Tiger Travis. Unfortunately, the man is himself Tiger Travis, who quickly disarms Miles. Their fight takes them out into the street and local police prevent Tiger from strangling Miles, but Tiger is content that Miles will hang for his crimes. As Miles is hauled off, the face of Death mocks him.

Now he’s reappeared with the ability to hypnotize people and command them to kill themselves. Five doctors have recently all died in “accidents,” but Nurse Cassidy suspects murder. When Thomason arrives at Dr. James’s office, the nurse suspects he is faking. James dismisses her concerns until Francis reveals his intentions, confessing that he’s been murdering his former fellow interns who are now all doctors. Dr. James will be his latest victim, but James is surprisingly able to just barely resist the hypnotic spell and capture Francis, telling the nurse to call the police.
