Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #2 (w/ Devil Dinosaur)

Post by wolframbane » Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:25 am

Characters: Lockheed (also in fb), Lockjaw, Throg, Redwing, Hairball, Ms. Lion, Zabu (all as Pet Avengers)
Devil Dinosaur (also in fb), Thanos (fb)
China Doll, Ringtoss, Scatterbrain/Fascination, Thug (all of Technet, all in fb)

LJPA 2 (1-2)
The Pet Avengers (Lockjaw, Throg, Lockheed, Redwing, Hairball, Ms. Lion) are attacked by a T-Rex, but they are rescued by Zabu, who arrives and convinces the dinosaur to leave.

LJPA 2 (3)-FB
A brief recap of LJPA 1 (including an appearance by Thanos), nothing new.

LJPA 2 (4-5)
Zabu joins them in their quest for the Infinity Gems. Lockheed uses the Time Gem to transport them into (apparently) the distant past.

LJPA 2 (6-10:1)
The Pet Avengers (apparently) arrive in what appears to be the Savage Land in the prehistoric past. They encounter a young red-skinned Devil Dinosaur, who aggressively attacks them and drives them off.

LJPA 2 (10:2)-FB
Flashback to Lockheed clashing with the Technet (China Doll, Ringtoss, Scatterbrain/Fascination, Thug are depicted) and Devil Dinosaur in Excalibur's lighthouse.

LJPA 2 (10:3-22)
The Pet Avengers recover the third Infinity Gem from Devil's nest of eggs. Devil chases them to a cliff and Lockheed uses the Time Gem to transport them to safety, when suddenly the animals find themseves falling into a vast ocean.

The first gem found was the Mind Gem, which allows Throg and Lockjaw to share thoughts. The second gem found was the Time Gem, which is held by Lockheed.

The younger Devil Dinosaur has red skin, meaning this is some time after he was nearly burned to death by the Killer-Folk and met Moon Boy in DDINO-FB 1. This probably occurs before DDINO 1, as Devil was aggressive but "still young." Even though Devil spent pretty much most of her early life with Moon Boy, her companion is not present in the story.

Although the Time Gem implicitly transported the Pet Avengers backs millions of years ago to the Age of Dinosaurs of Earth-616, where they meet Devil Dinosaur, this is unlikely as Devil Dinosaur and Moon boy are from "Dinosaur World" or Earth-78411 (revealed as an alternate Earth in the Fallen Angels series and numbered in Marvel Monsters: From the Files of Ulysses Bloodstone and the Monster Hunters). Lockheed also notes that "my people have visited Earth for thousands of years... we have documented this time period," indicating that, at the very least, this was not millions of years ago. The Pet Avengers probably just transported to the relatively recent past of the alternate Earth-78411, where they encountered Devil Dinosaur, who is "still young."

The flashback in LJPA 2 (10:2)-FB occurs during MCP 174/2.

Devil Dinosaur has a clutch of eggs in this story, indicating she is female. This is probably her first clutch of eggs, she would have more later in the recent Heroes for Hire #9-10.

The Cloak of Skepticism is draping over this series. I'm doubting that this is canonical to Earth-616. Ms. Lion, the illogical chronology of the Illuminati vis-a-vis the loss of Kitty, the Earth-78411 connection...hmm. There are obvious references to Earth-616 events, but they could be analog events from another earth for all we know. Let's see how the rest of this series unfolds.

After the end of #3, with Thanos popping up with that costume and modus operandi... I'm willing to go the whole hog and just call it "non-canon".
