Continuity notes: This entire mini must take place after Ghost Rider annual 1, but before GR #20.

Goofs: Eleven claims Danny was always "in the driver's seat" of his Ghost Rider, which isn't true at all: Noble was always in control from the start, never Danny. Johnny, on the other hand, was sometimes in control of his GR, other times it was Zarathos (and currently, his Spirit of Vengeance alternates with him).

Pages 1-9: Night, in Brooklyn. Danny Ketch gets in a bar brawl at the Rune Stone Pub. Mr Eleven, in the form of a raven, watches from outside. Once the fight ends, Danny hits on an Indian woman, later named Shoba Mirza, who points out all of his personality flaws, especially those in his looking for a fight to begin with, and implies she knows about his "hunger". She departs, Mr. Eleven keeps him from following her until she's out of sight. A growling rat person watches from the sewer nearby. Danny asks the bartender for another whiskey. FULL MOON.

Pages 10-11, 13-22: Same night. Mary LeBow, who works with a sign that says "Paranormal Consultancy - Technomatic Solutions". She's in the middle of doing some ritual when her phone rings. It's Danny, who drunkenly begs her to give the Ghost Rider back to him. She reminds him she took it out of him because it's what he wanted, to rid him of his family curse. He cries, she reads his mind, knows he's been out fighting again and wants to come pick him, now she's got a "fix" on him. He realizes he's more than hungry, he's starving. He takes off on his bike, Mr Eleven following and narrating to us all the backstory and motivation elaboration the audience would need to understand what's going on. A van with some bank robbers is swerved into Danny by the raven, giving Mr Eleven a chance to finally talk to the downed biker, telling him to sober up since he doesn't have much time. Dazed from the wreck and still drunk, Danny gets what he's been waiting for when his bike ignites with mystic energy and he becomes Ghost Rider again. Unfortunately, the fire on his skull and wheels are smoldering, hardly there at all. Mr Eleven says the first ride's free, take it or leave it. The bank robbers come out to get some revenge on the biker who foiled their getaway, but instead they face Ghost Rider, crying for vengeance and taking each of them down despite their firepower. He finds he lacks a penance stare, but still has his chain. But, again, unfortunately, he has a time limit, and transforms back to Danny after only a minute, boss's orders, says Mr Eleven, for his own good. Whoops, he wasn't able to take out one of the gunmen, and he has his gun on the un-GRed Danny now!
Page 12: FB. "Two years ago". Mary uses her paranormal tech to exorcise Noble Kale from Danny Ketch.

Continuity notes: Nothing actionable, but I figured I'd point it out. There's some newspaper clippings on Danny's wall. A shot of GR's head with headline "Skeleton Biker Saves Local Child". Punisher picture with "Is the Rider a Brooklyn Boy?" Flaming streets of the city with "Halloween Hero Sighted Again". And Kingpin's head with "Crime Boss Captured".


Calendar notes: Nothing, but it certainly seems to be coat weather. Everyone wears one, even the background people walking on the streets.

Recap page:
Pages 1-6: Continued from last issue, same night as such. Danny's held at shotgun point by the angry remaining robber, while the others recover. Luckily, Danny's ravings at the raven aren't his last words, thanks to the robber getting a cell phone call from what he thinks is their boss, only to have it turn out to be Mary LeBow, sending a warning for Danny to duck and sending out a signal to a nearby streetlight, unleashing a WattGhost that fries the gunman. Mary shows up on her scooter, flings mail order Cornwall pixies at the other robbers, igniting the pixies with her technomancy. The robbers flee, Mary's save isn't thanked by Danny, who still blames her for his current state, then rides off, leaving her behind.
Pages 7-10: The next morning. Shoba shows up at a very hungover Danny's apartment. He pukes on her shoes, offers her something to drink. She knows his secret, and she knows he has the power again, she can taste it on him. He thought it was just a dream, she tells him the "others" spoke highly of his skill as a warrior. Shoba explains someone is killing their kind, and needs his help. Danny isn't grasping what she's saying, thinking her crazy. So she hits him with a bit of her power, smashing his door and knocking him out and leaving him behind, calling him pathetic.
Pages 11-22: That night, Danny eats with Mary at Rosyn's Diner. He apologizes for the way he treated her, and cries, realizing the night before was real, he had the power again and now it's gone once more, his craving for it is worse than ever. She hasn't seen him this bad since after the exorcism, he says it's worse. Mary offers to help him by doing an electric seance to find out what's going on with him. She leaves to borrow the diner's microwave to get her magsense ready. Right after she leaves, a surly gent knocks Danny's coffee over while passing by. Turns out, the guy's father was beaten up by Danny in a bar last month. Feeling the Rider inside, Danny loses his fear, and when the guy gets pushy, leading to Danny stabbing his hand with a fork and punching him out. Mr. Eleven flies in and hovers by the window, so Danny goes outside to talk to him, to beg for another dose. They ride off, as it starts to rain, leaving Mary behind, confused. Eleven finally introduces himself to Danny, and is glad he survived the prior night since he doesn't fancy finding someone else for this role. Anyway, he leads Danny to an alleyway, where Shoba tracks down a bunch of rats. They turn into large warrior rat creatures who attack her. Danny demands another dose of power to help the woman, but Eleven says he'll have to convince the boss for it first, since the power is only his to give. Besides, Shoba isn't powerless, she suddenly ignites and appears in Ghost Rider form, with four arms, a flaming skull head, various weapons, and a flaming elephant skeleton she rides atop against the rats!
Page 13 panel 1: FB. Daily Bugle newspaper, cover dated "Wednesday, August 13, 20..." Danny's in the picture, covered in gasoline, trying to light a match as firefighters cautiously approach him. In the background, Mary tries to break in past the cops to save him. The article is titled "Fire Tragedy Averted. Drunk and disoriented man attempts self-immolation in Times Square." According to Mary, this was a week after the exorcism.

Continuity notes: They never do give Shoba her own "name" as a Ghost Rider. Albinus calls her "Hindiwitch", but that's alongside calling Danny "the Wheeler". Elephant Rider, maybe?

The four Ghost Riders featured in the FB are not given proper names at all. And the flashbacks are likely to very recent times, if not actively to what's going on at the moment around the world.


Goofs: Danny doesn't seem to remember his fellow GR, named Vengeance, had the "spirit take over the host" like Mr Eleven described, back in GR2 71-75ish. Or he's just too doofy right now to connect the two similar events.


Calendar notes: After the rain, it's a pretty clear night, as far as we can see.

Pages 1-5: Same night as last issue continued. Rain dies off during battle. Shoba Mirza's Ghost Rider form fights against the rat warriors, much to Danny Ketch's surprise. She begins to lose, so Danny uses the opportunity to ask for another dose of power. Mr Eleven has him talk to Zadkiel directly, and he does so, to the sky, at least. Danny becomes Ghost Rider, for five minutes this time, and aids Shoba against the rats. But while Danny's caught up in the thrill of being back in the flaming saddle, the general of the rat forces, a white one named Albinus, attacks Shoba and kidnaps her. Mr Eleven points out her disappearance, killing Danny's enjoyment of what he thought was a successful team-up.
Pages 6-11: The next morning. Mary ties to call Danny, but his phone gets destroyed by Mr Eleven, who awaited for him to wake up. After Danny has some coffee, Eleven reveals a Seerstitch, an astral plasma eye of sorts, which he uses to show him a quick history of the Spirits of Vengeance. How Heaven long, long ago unleashed parasitic entities, hundreds of living spirit-weapons bound to human souls to purify the planet. They can even improve, one capable of absorbing another to have greater power, and capable of changing hosts if need be. He also brings up the concept of "memeforms", which basically says each Ghost Rider reflects the myths and legends of the area local to its location. Danny vomits from the experience of seeing all of this, and Eleven explains he works for Heaven, the system of Spirits of Vengeance is being threatened and if he'll help fix it, he'll be given partial restoration of the power he threw away.
Page 8 panels 1-4: FB. "The way-back-when". However many thousands of years ago, fireballs fall from the sky, hitting a few humans. This is the Spirits of Vengeance being sent down initially from Heaven and bonding with human hosts.
Page 8 panel 5: A panel full of numerous different Ghost Riders, generically together, all skully and flamey.
Page 8 panel 7: FB. Midlevel times. A knight Ghost Rider kills another Ghost Rider, apparently absorbing its energy.

Page 9-10 section 4: FB, double-page spread. Off the shore of Wellington, New Zealand, under a full moon, a Virgin of the Maoritanga rides a boat and cries.
Pages 12-14: Mary, having hurt her hand when he phone exploded thanks to Mr Eleven, hooks up her digital dream machine thing and sends her mental consciousness into the matrix of machine spirit realm or something wacky like that. She wants their help in diagnosing what's going on with Danny, but they've been warned not to aid her, by the Black Host. She wonders what that is, and gets to see the power of Zadkiel in action for herself as he appears in a glowing form in this realm, trashing machines with one burst of energy, warning her to back off of Danny. Mary awakens, frightened.
Pages 15-23: Night. Mr Eleven leads Danny to a wall with a marking on it. He explains the Berenv'ha Dentii, a rat man race of Warrior-Mystics who come from the wall-cavities between dimensions. A thousand years ago, they were everywhere, not demons but not angelic doing either. The last one died in 1917, was brought back not long ago, and Danny remembers him, Verminus Rex, one Blackheart's faux Spirits of Vengeance. Seems Verm has since realized he has the ability to absorb the power of Spirits of Vengeance, and has been doing so since we last saw him, more of a junkie than Danny is for the power of Ghost Rider. Somehow, Verminus has repopulated his race, and they're doing his bidding for him, which is where Albinus is bringing Shoba. Eleven leads Danny into a Rat Hole, astral tunnels they live between dimensions. In one, Eleven shows Danny the remnants of an ancient civilization called the Thule. There, the last living Thule is chained, screaming for release. Seems there's a drawback to having a Spirit of Vengeance. If the host gets too into the role, too hungry for vengeance or gets hit in the head the wrong way or something, he loses focus and the Spirit takes over. It's an overdose, which melts the mind and dissolves the soul, can't even transfer the power out to a new host, then. That Thule is living proof of this. Eleven claims his boss knows how much willpower it took for Danny to exorcise his Spirit, proving his worth, but the dose of power is being limited at the moment to keep him from overdosing on it. Danny turns Ghost Rider again, and proceeds to kill the Thule, absorbing his Spirit of Vengeance energy and giving the poor creature the release he's been in need of. Next, Danny rides his cycle into the rat creatures' nest. Albinus learns of the approaching Ghost Rider, but still ends up surprised when Danny shows up, carrying the heads of several decapitated rats.
Page 15 panel 4: FB. A knight Ghost Rider, likely a thousand years ago. He kills some of the Berev'ha Dentii, which surround him.
Page 16 panel 3: FB. Sometime between GR2 94/2 and this mini. Verminus has his rat men hold down a Ghost Rider with some kind of uniform on I don't recognize, and absorbs his Spirit of Vengeance energy.
Page 19 panel 4: FB. Long, long ago. The Thule Ghost Rider overdoses, losing his mind, as the rat men watch.

Page 1: New night. Danny exits Rat Hole portal, having failed to find Verminus Rex. He complains about the tunnels being a maze, telling Mr Eleven if he had more power he could cover more ground quicker. Given another boost, but cautioned by Eleven, Ghost Rider heads back in, roughing up Rat Men looking for their master. He exits soon, still empty handed. Mary overhears Eleven telling him to get some sleep and they'll try again tomorrow.
Page 2: The next night, at 9pm. The same portal. Dan pushes Mr Eleven for more power, claiming the rats are breeding. He gets it, but again, gets no answers from the rats he beats up. Meanwhile, Mary researches a book, an article on someone named "Elevenus".
Page 3 panel 1: Another night. Dan has exited the portal and tells Mr Eleven he found nothing.
Page 3 panel 2: Another night, same thing.
Page 3 panels 3-4: Another night, same thing. Danny doesn't want to wait for night, wanting to get back in right away, but Eleven tells the sweaty junkie to get some rest.
Page 3 panels 5 & 6 to page 15: That morning. Mary tracks Danny to the parking garage where the portal is thanks to her Hex-Nav. He's waiting by the portal for his next dose. When she tries pulling him away, he nearly hits her, but barely stops himself. They go eat breakfast at the diner, he earns himself a slap when he tries claiming he can handle this mission. She tells him about Eleven, that he works for whichever side pays best. When Danny brings up hoiw he's got Heaven on his side, Mary reveals that the rumor on the "Etherweb" is Heaven is currently under siege. Mr Eleven smashes through the window, tells Danny of an emergency at his apartment, and he chooses to ignore Mary and head home. There, they find Shoba Mirza waiting, stuck in Ghost Rider form, injured, having barely escaped Verminus and made her way out the tunnels. Her injuries are causing an overdose of power, so Danny has to drain it out of her before her soul is destroyed. She begs him to not deny her nirvana, and he obliges, most of all since absorbing her Spirit of Vengeance energies gives him a free dose, causing him to transform. She changes back to normal, thanks him, and dies of her injuries. Danny is overwhelmed by her memories, and nearly overdoses himself, refusing to ask "the boss" to cut off the power, willing himself back into control. Eleven informs him he likely just proved himself worthy of the career, which he then explains goes beyond taking down Verminus. Danny demands to know who "the boss" is, and Eleven explains. Zadkiel was there when the spirits were sent out, and when the first one overdosed. He's an angel, there's a war in Heaven between the factions... Eleven glosses over that part quick, focusing Danny on one thing: that someone has to save the souls of the hosts from themselves. Danny accepts this task, especially since it'll mean more doses to draw on as Ghost Rider.
Page 14 panel 5: FB. The firestorm on Earth that sent Spirits of Vengeance into human hosts to begin with. A pair of humans shown getting the power. It's stated this was "a hundred bad centuries" ago.
Page 14 panel 6: Ancient style drawing of Zadkiel appearing over a pair of praying angle-winged figures.
Page 15 panel 2: Five Ghost Riders stand generically. The Thule one, the Shockhead one, the uniformed one with shoulder tassels that Verminus killed in that FB last issue, and two others who aren't identified.
Page 16-22: A short time later, Ghost Rider heads back into the Rat Hole, using Shoba's memories of the way to the main nest. He fights his way there with Mr Eleven, finding Verminus Rex waiting, his skull aflame with orange fire. Danny takes out the rat men easily, but Verminus proves too strong. He eventually loses his powers in mid-battle, which causes Verminus to lose interest in fighting him. Eleven urges Danny to ask the boss for more power, but he refuses, he needs full access to win, not these samples. Despite the danger, he convinces Eleven to ask Zadkiel, he does so, and what do ya know? He agrees, giving Danny the full power of the Ghost Rider at last, complete with a new costume.

Pages 1-22: Danny, now fully accessing the Ghost Rider powers, kills some rat men and makes his way back to Verminus Rex. As he battles him, Mr Eleven gets his crow head cut off by Rex's son, Albinus. Unable to catch the killer before he escapes, Danny takes his anger out on Verminus. Albinus exits the Rat Hole, goes to Mary LeBow's place, they fight briefly, and thanks to her special goggles, she's able to see his true form. A humanoid shape with a II shape for eyes and a black & white circle halo over his head. Mr. Eleven confirms to her his ability to body jump, which Danny doesn't know about. Eleven claims to be a free agent, only working for Zadkiel because the alternative is getting his soul ripped in half. Since Mary knows all about Zadkiel and could possibly warn Danny off of him, Eleven has to take her out of the equation. Back at the nest, Ghost Rider continues to fight Verminus Rex, finally hopping into his flaming skull and busting it apart from the inside. Danny manages to keep from absorbing his energies, taking control of his addiction, but Verminus pushes his buttons until he finally does it, leeching off the Spirits of Vengeance Verminus has consumed over the past few years, destroying the German rat man in the process. Overdosing, unable to control it, Danny rides out of the Rat Hole, and to Mary's place, to have her excerise the spirit from him again.

Unfortunately, he finds her there, dead, alongside what's left of Albinus. This pushes Danny over the edge, and it happens, he overdoses, flaring out with hellfire. But in the "In-Between", Mary's spirit is shown this by Mr Eleven. He apologizes for killing her, but offers a chance to get her a new body, especially since the alternative is letting her go to Heaven, where Zadkiel is waiting for her. Eleven gave him one dumb soul today, he's not going to give him two. Mary & Eleven watch from this astral plane as Ghost Rider continues to become overwhelmed by the Spirit of Vengeance. That's when Zadkiel himself appears before Danny, offering him a chance to keep his soul from being devoured by the power, by giving it to him. Unlike his brother Johnny's similar deal with Satan, Zadkiel claims he merely wishes to protect his soul, and this will guarantee no matter what happens, he'll go to Heaven when he dies. All he asks in return is to keep absorbing Spirits of Vengeance to ensure their hosts' souls are saved as his is. Danny signs the control by pressing his hand to a tablet Zadkiel holds. In the In-Between, Mary tries to warn Danny, but is unable to. Eleven explains Zadkiel's plan, giving him a taste of the power he wanted so he'd be at his mercy. Since Zadkiel is trying to siege control of Heaven, he can only take it by having the Heavenly Power of all the Spirits of Vengeance. and Danny will be his puppet to give that to him by absorbing them all.

Verminus Rex's spirit appears, revealing he was doing as Mr Eleven wanted, consuming the Spirits of Vengeance, allowing Shoba to escape, and taunting Danny into absorbing the powers. The reward Zadkiel offered was to rebuild his rat race, which he obviously did so already. But Verminus wanted a new, human body, but Eleven refuses, since the boss is busy at the moment. Mary saves Eleven from Verminus, sending the rat man's soul directly to hell in the process. Mary is thanked by Eleven, and he finally explains why he kept her around: soon there will be a time when anyone connected to the occult and general spookiness, or anything Heaven & Hell related, will be in trouble. So people like Eleven and Mary, those abnormal like that, will catch the "fallout". He says they have to stick together against this, and helps her find a new body. When asked what the fallout is from, he tells her, from Danny. Back on our plane, Danny's soul becomes Zadkiel's. He essentially gives Danny the sanction of Heaven to indulge his addiction to the Ghost Rider powers in finding all Spirits of Vengeance and absorbing them into himself. The ultimate goal, being the liberation and "saving" of his brother, Johnny Blaze. Mary's apartment explodes, and Danny Ketch, now a blue-flamed Ghost Rider, rides out, serving Zadkiel and the Black Host!
