Iron Man: The Legend #1

Post by JLH »

In honor of the movie being released today, here's something the MCP is missing... Canonocity, to be determined, so here's the analysis of the only in-universe part of this old book.

IRON MAN: THE LEGEND #1 [September 1996]
Writer: Peter Sanderson
Editor: Mark Gruenwald
Original Art: Jimmy Cheung, Tom Grindberg, Andy Lanning, Harry Candelario

"Tony Stark: A Life in Pictures" (5 pages).

Photos of Tony's life, with a mention that his life has been "copiously recorded by the news media from the very beginning".

Page 1, photo 1: Tony is a newsborn in his father, Howard's arms, as Maria looks on, and a nurse is also there. Balloons, too!
Page 1, photo 2: Family photo. Howard with a martini in hand, stands above a very young Tony (probably 3 or 4) and Maria. He's a drunk, ya know.
Page 1, photo 3: Tony, age FIVE (according to description) works on an erector set, discovering his talent for building things for the first time.
Page 1, photo 4: Tony, age SEVEN, stands with his mother Maria, in front of car with chauffer, as he's being sent to boarding school. Description mentions she and Jarvis are distressed by this, but I don't think he's the chauffer. Maybe he's taking the picture?
Page 2, photo 1: Tony, not much older, sits in front of a tree reading "Le Mort D' Arthur".
Page 2, photo 2: Having finally been brought home from school, we see Teenage Tony is splashing water at beach, at a teenage Meredith McCall, daughter to his father's business rival. Howard then sends Tony to Europe.
Page 3, photo 1: Tony holds diploma in hand and smiles for camera, graduating from MIT with a double major in physics and engineering while still a teenager. A blonde female and a guy with brown hair are in background.
Page 3, photo 2: Tony skdives along with someone else we can't see well. He's of age to access his trust fund.
Page 2, photo 3: Tony, a little older, is posing for a picture with a drink in hand, and a brunette and a redhead by each side, during a party.
Page 2, photo 4: Police officer approaches the wrecked car of Howard & Maria, their dead bodies inside offscreen.
Page 3, photo 3: Tony, looking morose, sits in office for photo, now owner & CEO of his father's company.
Page 3, photo 4: Tony, drink in hand, is hugged by Joanna Nivena, at a party with a bunch of people mingling behind them.
Page 2, photo 5: Some time later, Tony gets off planet and waves to Asian guy in "Southeast Asia".
Page 2, photo 6: Wong Chu holds gun to soldier, as two other soldiers stand to the side.
Page 3, photo 5: Gray armored Iron Man smashes past explosion as Asian soldiers scramble about, Jim Rhodes helps him fight to safety.
Page 3, photo 6: Group shot of the Avengers. Gold armor Iron Man, Ant-Man with a pair of ants, Thor, and Hulk.
Page 4, photo 1: Tony poses for photo, shaking hand of Nick Fury, during the "early days of SHIELD", when he helped name Fury as director.
Page 4, photo 2: VIEW magazine cover. Tony smiles under large golden arch. Headline says "Inside: Tony Stark; Leader in International Technology." [others include: "Plus: -Making the most of your investments. -Tips for Travelers. -Top 10 Stocks. -Hot news of the week. -New Wave music explored." The caption mentions how his father's company is now Stark International, and no longer makes munitions.
Page 5, photo 1: Tony, bearded, lying in garbage, clothes a mess, lying in alley with bottle in hand, covers face to try to avoid photo, during his alcholic days post Stane.
Page 5, photo 2: Tony poses for photo in front of CIRCUTS MAXIMUS, with Rhodey, and Morley & Clytemnestra Erwin.
Page 4, photo 3: VIEW Magazine cover. Headline "Feature Story: Tony Stark; Rebirth of a Business". [others include: "Plus: Surviving the downsizing trend. -The Women of Ecto-Rock. -Crisis in the Mid-West. -Movie Reviews, In-Depth News, Fashion, Stocks, and More!" This is after Stane died and he now has Stark Enterprises.
Page 5, photo 3: Tony sits sadly in wheelchair in study.
Page 5, photo 4: Tony vs Young Tony, the two in armor as seen in Iron Man #325. Who the hell snapped this shot, Hawkeye?

Any idea of placements for all these? Some are likely too generic to place, but others are very exact.
