Brief synopsis: Dr. Randy O'Brien meets Dave Landers after Dave is admitted to Winnebago County General Hospital for an overdose of painkillers. After Randy learns of his paranormality, they travel to the Clinic, a facility set up to treat those with paranormalities, and are assigned to a therapy group with Charly Beck, Dennis “Scuzz” Cuzinski, Lenore Fenzl, Stephanie Harrington, and Jeff Walters. Philip Nolan Voigt, head of the Clinic, orders his three top operatives, Mr. Hackbarth, Mr. Charne, and Ms. Speck, to which members of the group would be best suited for the C.I.A.'s paranormal force. After three weeks at the Clinic, Randy's anti-body discovers that the Clinic has sinister plans for the paranormals. With this information, the seven members of the therapy group decide to leave the Clinic and go on the run.

Brief synopsis: After getting Dave's trailer home on the road, the group is again attacked by the Clinic's paranormals. Fending off the second attack, the group continues on the run. That night, Dave and Jeff accompany Stephanie to her home in Sheboygan. They are again attacked by the trio of paranormal hunters who had been tipped off by Stephanie's husband, Chuck. But, the runaways are again able to repel the agents.

Brief synopsis: Stopping in a small town, Dave is captured by the police, who believe him to be "the Wompus," a creature mutilating cattle. The group creates an elaborate deception to prove Dave's innocence, but Jeff stumble upon the true culprits, a group of local teenagers.

Brief synopsis: Voigt sends seven freelance agents after the group. On the road, Scuzz is badly beaten by a gang of bikers. Randy takes Charlotte and Jeff to find Scuzz, while Stephanie goes with Dave and Lenore to retrieve her children. After a few days in the hospital and two weeks of recuperation, Scuzz confronts the bikers and exacts revenge, calling himself "the Scorcher".

Brief synopsis: After leaving the fight with the bikers, Scuzz is tracked down and captured by the freelancers. The next day, while Randy stops at a hospital to check in on a biker attacked by Scuzz, and Jeff is making a phone call, some of the agents capture Charly. As Stephanie and Lenore retrieve her children from her mother-in-law's house, her husband, Chuck arrives. Outside, Dave attempts to keep Chuck occupied, but the two get into a fight leaving Chuck badly injured. Later, Stephanie heals Chuck in the hospital and is captured by more of the agents as she leaves the building.

Brief synopsis: The Clinic continues its effort to brainwash the six captured paranormals through their dreams. Randy's antibody meets Evan Huebner, an orphan, and takes up residence in his body. The antibody is “dying” and has Huebner return it to Randy at the Clinic, but when they get there the antibody disintegrates as soon as it emerges from Huebner. Dave, hunted by the freelancers, collapses in the woods of Wisconsin after being hit by numerous tranquilizer darts. He is found by “the Woodsman” and recovers after being brought to the hunter's cabin.

Brief synopsis: Dave spends several months in the woods with the Woodsman, who teaches Dave how to fight. Dave leaves to rescue the rest of the group from the Clinic to rescue them. On the way, the freelancers catch up with him, but he is saved by a group of six paranormals with psychic powers who call themselves the ESPeople. When Dave leaves them, the group places a mental block in his mind preventing him from remembering who they are, and, in doing so, a side-effect that prevents psychic tampering of his mind. The freelancers soon track Dave down and capture him. At the Clinic, Stephanie begins waking from her dream-state when her powers counter the effects of the sedatives. Hackbarth decides to kill her with his power but Charne uses his power to put Stephanie into a coma and, as a result, accidentally puts Hackbarth into a coma as well.

Brief synopsis: Reunited at the Clinic, Dave and Randy attempt to free the others, but find they have been brainwashed. The pair confront Voigt who reveals his paranormal power to duplicate the powers of other paranormals. Calling himself the Overshadow after duplicating Randy's power, Voigt reveals his idea that paranormals are superior to normal humans and will take over the world. A fight ensues and Randy discovers he can create up to five antibodies. After jumping into his massive antibody, Voigt is seemingly destroyed by Dave.

Flashback (18:2-18:7)

Brief synopsis: Voigt is mountain climbing in Colorado when the White Event happens. During the Event, along with gaining immense paranormal powers, he experiences "the meaning of everything" which quickly fades. Using their paranormal powers, Voigt and former student, Charne, take over a mental hospital and turn it into the Clinic.
References: As noted on 18:2, Voigt was a professor at state university "a year ago" [March 1986]. As noted on 18:3, Voigt went mountain climbing "last summer" and, as noted on 18:4, experiences the White Event on the second day of climbing.

When his body dies, Kohler becomes conscious only to find that he is intangible and unable to communicate with others. He finds himself strangely drawn elsewhere and witnesses the emergence of the powers of the group of paranormals who will become "D.P. 7".

Brief synopsis: After Dave and Randy inform Dr. Semple of Voigt's actions, the remaining staff attempts to reform Voigt's corruption. However, Dexter Charne attempts to surreptitiously seize control of the Clinic with the help of Tracy Speck. Dave confronts Charne and, in the battle, Charne accidentally shoots (and kills?) Speck. Before Dave can do anything else to stop Charne, one of Randy's antibodies kills Charne by breaking his neck.

Brief synopsis: Scuzz forms a gang with other teenagers at the Clinic: the DDTeens. After Indigo humiliates Scuzz, he leads the group against the Black Powers in revenge. Charly uses her powers to stop the fight, angering Indigo who kicks her out of the Black Powers.

Brief synopsis: Freefall and Tangler take their revenge on the Black Powers by killing Chill and Squirm. New director, Tanis Newhouse, calls a general assembly to deal with the escalating violence at the Clinic. During the assembly, the Black Powers start a riot in order to kill Freefall and Tangler. All are incapacitated by Lenore, who uses her power to knock everyone out.
Note: Blindspot is missing and assumed to have been killed by Freefall and Tangler.
