SYNOPSIS:
Magneto tries to save his daughter Anya from a burning building, but local police try to arrest him for extortion. Anya dies and Magneto murders the police detaining him in a rage. His wife Magda flees in fear (expands CX 12/2). Later, Magda arrives at Wundagore where she becomes friends with the cow-woman Bova. Later, she gives birth to twins (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch). Fearing that Magneto will find her and take the children from her, Magda leaves them behind at Wundagore (expands A 186-FB, UX@ 12/3 & A 234-FB). “Barely a month later” Whizzer and Miss America arrive at Wundagore. Miss America’s child is stillborn so Bova tries to pass off Magda’s twins as hers. Miss America dies from childbirth complications, so Bova tries to tell Whizer that Magda’s twins are Miss America’s. Whizzer runs off in grief that Miss America is dead, leaving the children behind (expands GSA 1-FB, A 186-FB & WOSM@ 4/3). Bova finally tells the High Evolutionary about the children (she’s already named them Wanda and Pietro), so he gives them to some nearby gypsies, Django and Marya (they recently lost their children, Ana and Mateo) (expands A 186-FB, A 234-FB & WOSM@ 4/3). Pietro and Wanda grow up as gypsies, but Pietro eventually learns they aren’t really Django and Marya’s children. Pietro catches Django stealing food, so Pietro steals a bunch of food to show he can do it too. Django yells at him, so Pietro runs away. When they look for him in a nearby town, a group of locals attack Wanda for being a gypsy. Pietro runs to save her but scares a horse, who dumps manure on the attackers (new). Later, a mob attacks them for being witches. Django tells Pietro and Wanda to run away (expands A 182-FB). Years later, Pietro and Wanda are approached by Charles Xavier, who offers to train them to use their powers. Pietro declines. As Xavier leaves, Wanda saves a girl from being crushed by a bolder (new). A mob attacks them for being witches. Magneto saves them from the mob (expands UX 4-FB & A 47-FB).

NOTE:
This issue shows that Magneto was already using the “Erik Lensherr” alias when his daughter Anya died.

The Xavier scene happens before Wanda and Pietro are rescued from a mob by Magneto, obviously. That means this scene has to happen before X -1 in Xavier’s chronology, because Wanda and Pietro are already with Magneto in X -1. X -1 happens while Amelia Voght is living with Xavier, which means before Cyclops moves into Xavier’s house, which means before Xavier’s house is a school. However, Xavier tells Wanda and Pietro about his school here. We could interpret this to mean Xavier *intends* to open a school, not that he actually already has a school. Otherwise there’s no place for this scene to go, and the issue is non-canon. I’m willing to re-interpret it.
