BLACK KNIGHT v3 (January, 2010)
By Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz & Sal Buscema

APPEARANCES:
Sir Richard (becomes Black Knight), Sir Percy (Black Knight’s twin brother), Merlin, witches of Avalon (in fb), King Arthur, Sir Mordred, Kargal (Mordred’s thug)

FLASHBACK:
The witches of Avaon create Excalibur; when they do they draw all evil from the blade and contain it within another newly created blade, Chaos the Doombringer.
SYNOPSIS:
Sir Richard fights on behalf of King Arthur and his twin brother Percy (who has ever fought in his life) sings about it. One day Merlin arrives and sends the pair on a quest to find the Doombringer sword (Excalibur’s evil twin, the Ebony Blade) before Mordred does. The brothers search and find one of the witches who created the swords and she tells them where it is. As they search, Merlin hangs out with Arthur and Mordred sends his man Kargal after them. The brothers find the sword and Percy claims it, instantly turning him evil. They return to Merlin but Percy refuses to hand the sword over. Kargal attacks and Percy is killed. Richard kills Kargal and claims the evil sword, but Kargal summons a demon as he dies. Richard and Merlin defeat the demon. Mordred decides to look for something else to help him overthrow Arthur. Richard burns his brother’s body and refuses to give up the Ebony Blade. Richard assumes his brother’s identity to honor his memory and becomes the Black Knight to fight for Arthur, using the Ebony Blade for good.

NOTE:
Here we have Sir Richard, Percy’s never before mentioned twin brother, as the Black Knight. Also, “Percy” is just an alias for the Black Knight; his name is actually Richard. And yet, in all other depictions of the Black Knight’s early days, Percy learned how to fight as a youth, and only posed as a minstrel once he became the Black Knight.

Also, Merlin forged the Ebony Blade (along with a staff, shield and cup), not some witches (along with Excalibur).
