ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #1 (October, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
In 1904, something crashes in Tunguska, Russia, leaving a giant crater. In 1927, explorers are terrified by what they find in Tunguska. In 2004, a telepathic broadcast is sent worldwide, cutting into all TV, radio and internet transmissions, warning of the end times. It’s so terrifying people begin to commit suicide. Professor X finally pinpoints where the signal is coming from and gathers an X-Men team to investigate, thinking it to be a new mutant in trouble. Nick Fury gathers an Ultimates team to investigate thinking it to be a new weapon, and recruits Sam Wilson to join them.

NOTE:
This mini takes place before Ultimates 2 #1.

Sam Wilson has the wings, but no one calls him Falcon, and he doesn’t like codenames.

ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #2 (November, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
The X-Men and the Ultimates both separately make their way to Tungusk simultaneously, find the crash site which has a bunker built over it, and enter from different sides, unaware of each other’s presence.

ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #3 (December, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
The Ultimates make their way through the complex and find a crazy guy who shoots energy blasts from his face. They kill him and discover his power comes from a mechanical part that’s been bolted onto his skull. Meanwhile, the X-Men find a giant guy with mechanical parts bolted all over him. They fight but the floor gives way, and they land on more people further underground.


ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #4 (January, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
The Ultimates learn that the Russians have been using the materials from the crash site to build super soldiers. They come across the “leader,” who was built to fight Captain America. Cap stays behind to take care of him while the rest continue on. Meanwhile, the x-Men first try to reason with the underground test subjects, then fight and kill them when they don’t cooperate. The X-Men find the center of the complex first and are terrified by what they find.

NOTE:
None of the Russian super soldiers are named, but the main one looks like Red Guardian.

ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #5 (February, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Captain America defeats the Russian super soldier. Meanwhile, the Ultimates find the source of the broadcasts: a robot from space that’s called Vision. He arrived a hundred years ago to warn the planet that it’s doomed because Ga Lak Tus is coming, but now there’s no time. He’s been trying to repair himself but the Russians kept pulling parts off him. The X-Men leave ad the Ultimates hope to learn exactly what the threat to Earth is.
