ULTIMATE CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNUAL #1 (December, 2008)

SYNOPSIS:
T’Challa fails at the trial to become Black Panther and is gravely injured. His father the king, T’Chaka, calls the Weapon X program to rebuild him. T’Challa’s brother, M’Baku, is upset that T’Chaka broke Wakanda’s laws to save T’Challa, so he leaves Wakanda forever. A year later, Nick Fury calls T’Chaka to say T’Challa is now the Black Panther but can’t talk; also, the deal has canges and T’Challa now belongs to the United States government. T’Chaka is upset.

2nd story:

Captain America, Black Panther, Nick Fury, Thunderball, Trish Tilby (voice only), Hank Pym, Iron Man, Wasp, Thor (bts), Valkyrie (bts)

SYNOPSIS:
Nick Fury has Captain America train Black Panther and says he wants Black Panther on the Ultimates. Cap reminds Fury that the Ultimates don’t work for SHIELD anymore, but he’ll continue to train him. Later, Black Panther defeats Thunderball. Cap asks Nick Fury about Black Panther, and Fury lies. Later, Cap learns that Hank Pym is being transferred to Tony Stark’s mansion for house arrest and learns Black Panther’s real history. Cap tells Fury that Black Panther will be put onto the Ultimates. Cap learns that Thor has already introduced Valkyrie to the team. Cap has Tony Stark make a Black Panther costume, flies Black Panther back home to Wakanda and joins the Ultimates posing as Black Panther.

NOTE:
According to this, Black Panther never joined the Ultimates and didn’t appear in UILTS3; it was all Cap. Also, since Cap didn’t know Valkyrie was one the team yet, this has to happen before ULTSSAGA-FB.
