Who's going to the NYCC?

Post by JephYork »

New York Comic-Con ... April 18-20 ... anyone?

I'll be there, and I wouldn't mind meeting up with any chronology-buddies for a chat. Any takers?

My spring meetings are that week in Chicago, ending on the 17th. I may have that weekend open... I don't know. Maybe. I'd love to go to the New York Con... I should know by Sunday. We'll see!

YOU ARE HEREBY ORDERED TO ATTEND THE NYCC, COLONEL.

Hope to see you there!...

The Fast & LooseTM plan was to hop a ride with some buddies, but they're leaving Wednesday and my meetings aren't done until Thursday. So there's that. Plan B was being looked into, but then my car, the Charles Robinson Experience, up and died.

That poor thing had been having problems lately, most recently stranding me at work, and it's been a downward spiral ever since. The guy finally konked out for the last time this week, and it's now time to look into spending money on a new ride. It's a shame too, because the Charles Robinson Experience is a totally rad car name, and it's against the rules to re-use a car's name. :(

So yeah, my New York 2008 plans died along with the car. Maybe next year! *doh*

Col Fury,

May I recommend a Ferrari 330/P4 Berlinetta with modified "hover" technology? I'm pretty sure you can lease one on the cheap.

Well, dang. Sorry to hear you won't be joining me there, Col_Fury. It woulda been nice to meet you.

I feel your pain -- my car died back in December, and dealing with it wasn't a pleasant experience. Best of luck finding a replacement...

Same here, but you never know what the future holds. My spring meetings have always been split up by regions, but the fall meetings are company wide, and they're usually held in different places every year. We've had them in Florida, Minnesota, Las Vegas, Chicago, and a couple of years ago in New Jersey. New York has to happen eventually, right?

How was it? I wanted to go but had an unfortunately-timed vacation already booked...

It was fun! Lots of people, lots of energy, lots of cool panels. Stan Lee burst in during Joe Quesada's "Cup O' Joe" and took over the mike for a few minutes. I got to pick up a bunch of comics I'd been after for a while, and got to meet up with a lot of friends that I rarely see. I'm still exhausted, but I had a great time.

Plus, three of my friends harrassed me to autograph their copies of "Secret Invasion Saga".

Is it just me, or was the only news to come out of the NYCC was the fact that they're finally going ahead with a "Marvel Apes" mini, (obviously non-canon)?

I don't recall any hot creator exclusives, no talking about upcoming storylines, no news on hot new titles, ('cause I don't consider "Marvel Apes" a "hot" title)...I was just kinda let down, reading about the convention on Newsarama...are they saving all the big shocking headlines for Chicago this summer, or...is there just nothing newsworthy coming up from Marvel? (or is all of the "newsworthiness" tied up until Secret Invasion draws to a close)?
Keeping track of Bendis References since 2001!

I don't remember how it broke down last year, but almost all of the BIG announcements came out of San Diego, didn't they? There were some minor ones from New York & Chicago, but really San Dieago is the big show, so it gets the big anouncements.

That, and New York happened in April, and Marvel's big crossover just started in April. Depending on what happens in the next month or two, any announcements they may have could spoil whatever's coming up.

Aside from Marvel Apes, didn't they announce they're adapting some of Orson Scott Card's books? The ones he's really protective of? That's kind of big...

-edit-

Yeah, I think you answered your own question. :)

They announced Mike Choi and Sonja Oback as Marvel exclusives -- working on X-Force shortly.

And "Marvel Apes" sounds canon-ish, as the premise seems to be that the Gibbon (as in, the real Earth-616 villain) gets sucked into another dimension where the Marvel heroes are all apes. (Or, to be more accurate, primates.)

But yeah -- kind of a disappointing panel, announcement-wise.
