how can we help the marvel chronology project?

Post by tobyoryamcha »

So how can readers help MCP it says we can do analysis of issues but that they will not add them to characters chronologys or take them of the checklist as a result of that?

so what can we do?

Toby, I have to ask: Where did you hear that we "will not add them to characters chronologys or take them of the checklist"?

Books that are analyzed on the forum WILL eventually be added to character chronologies (assuming the analysis is valid), and the analyst receives credit on the Updates page. Books are taken off the Checklist when they're added to the Project.

""Please be aware, the titles and issues listed on the MCP checklist are not a call for analysis (as we won't be updating the list to reflect volunteers). If you still want to go ahead and submit analyses, you may do so, of course, but the purpose of this thread is to track which books still need to be added to the MCP.""

I seemed to take that as our analysisis (sp?) (analysees?) wont affect the list.

I think this is just a misunderstanding about the purpose of the Checklist.
tobyoryamcha wrote:the titles and issues listed on the MCP checklist are not a call for analysis (as we won't be updating the list to reflect volunteers).
The Checklist is just a master list of all the books that belong in the MCP that haven't yet made it in, regardless of whether or not they have been analyzed.

There's a time lag between when books are analyzed and when they are added to the project. For a while, the MCP's top priority was adding older books to the project to close some gaps in the listings. Now that the gaps have been closed, adding more recent books to the project is a higher priority, but there's a considerable backlog, so it will probably take a while before the project gets caught up.

When new issue analyses are submitted, the issues remain on the Checklist to indicate that they have still not been added to the project. But eventually, when those issues are added to the project (with the help of the submitted analyses) they will be removed from the Checklist.

They don't directly affect the list. It's just one step in the process that leads to books being removed from the Checklist. Michaelyuri stated it well.

I've been thinking about this same issue. The monthly call thread in the issue analysis forum is great start, but it's geared toward Paul B's calendar rather than the entire MCP. This leaves a few gaps in its coverage: Books set prior to FF #1 aren't listed because they aren't relevant to the calendar and books that Paul B. personally collects aren't listed because he doesn't need help to place them on his calendar. As far as I can tell, a lot of these books aren't being analyzed. Is anyone keeping track of them?

Maybe it would make sense going forward to expand the monthly Calls for Analysis to include all new canon books. Or maybe to include some sort of indication (like an asterisk) on the Checklist to indicate books that are still in need of analysis. Or maybe this is already being kept track of behind the scenes in some way that could be exposed. I don't know -- just a thought.

Yes to that one. Maybe this evening I can post some of the information we have.

This is a list of the analyses that have been sent to the Forum Archives. The number after the colon is the archive number. Link to the archives is at the bottom of the page. If the archive hasn't been added to the archives page, then the analysis is still here, in the Issue Analysis Forum.

I have almost all the books on the Checklist, but issue analyses are always welcome, and when the book is added to the Project, you'll get credit on the Updates page, with the next Major Update Announcement.

Thanks, Russ!

A quick search of the issue analysis forum shows that the following books have already been analyzed:

And according to Russ's list, this one is in archive 59:

The chronological placement of some of these books has been discussed extensively (for example, the civil war books) and many of them appear on Paul B's calendar (linked at the bottom of the page), but they haven't had a full analysis listing all of the the characters.
