She-Hulk Heroes Reborn Question

Post by Jeremy Johnston » Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:47 am

I know this question is a decade late, but I figured if anyone could help it would be you folks here at the Marvel Chronology Project. In the Heroes Reborn: The Return mini, She-Hulk is seen with the heroes returning to 616 Earth along with the FF and Avengers. However, she wasn't the real She-Hulk, the 616 She-Hulk was a member of the Heroes For Hire while the others were off in the Franklin-verse. The She-Hulk that retured must have been a Franklin creation. Has this ever been explained? What happened to this She-Hulk?

When I wrote She-Hulk's entry for her most recent Handbook appearance, I asked editorial for a ruling on the matter. The consensus is that she was mistakenly included amongst those who left, assumed to be the original, and that she got merged into her 616 counterpart when they crossed into that reality (much like the Heroes Return Hulk merged with the 616 Hulk, though with less dangerous radiation).

Well, that had something to do with the fact that (1) both Hulk & Banner were present at the transfer point itself and (2) that was the REAL Banner, split from the Hulk during Onslaught: MU, yes?

Does the same hold true for the Inhumans, BTW? They were on the ship home, but Crystal was the only one shown to enter Onslaught (and, indeed, shown in O:MU at all).

I didn't know that about the Inhumans. I am going to have to change that in my database when I get home.

I think that the extra She-Hulk (and Inhuman Royal Family for that matter) could make for an interesting story... they could be out there in the MU somewhere still.

Yes, that would probably have something to do with it. Basically, the She-Hulk being there was simply an error on someone's part. But, having to account for that in story terms (which is one of the functions of the handbooks, smoothing out glitches like these), the Heroes Reborn She-Hulk could simply have evaporated into thin air, been absorbed (despite the distance between them) into the real She-Hulk, been bounced back to Heroes Reborn by the presence of the real one at their destination, or been left to wander 616 while the real She-Hulk was also wandering round there (shades of the Earth A doppelganger). The consensus was for the absorption option, and that explanation was given in her last handbook entry.

Presumably, though that's not been discussed specifically. When duplicates were present, they got merged with the existing 616 versions.

It could still happen if a writer wants it to. The Handbook goes with the best current info, but retcons come along all the time. For the Handbook, the discovery that Heroes Reborn She-Hulk was still around would simply mean "the Counter-Earth She-Hulk was absorbed into the 616 She-Hulk" would become "the Counter-Earth She-Hulk was believed to have been absorbed into the 616 She-Hulk, but actually..."
