A couple of reasons, if I remember things right. ASM 573 is going to be double-sized, so there's a little bit of extra time needed(or wanted) to print this issue and make sure that it ships on time. Also, October is a five week ship month,(1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th) and they're still able to get three issues out in September by skipping the last week, and still able to get three issues out in October by missing the first two weeks. So while the extra time is no fun for us to wait through, they're still shipping 'thrice monthly'.

But all of that is irrelevant. I want my Amazing Spider-Man now, dang it! :)

Eight:

ASTONISHING X-MEN #27
CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI 13 #6
GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #6
IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF SHIELD #34
MIGHTY AVENGERS #19
PUNISHER MAX #63
UNCANNY X-MEN #503
ULTIMATE ORIGINS #5 (OF 5)

So the big question... I dropped ASM about 15 issues into "Brand New Day" (thought OMD/BND was bad, hated the sudden changing of the status quo, though the rotating creative teams made for flimsy & inconsequential stories not worth $9/month) but "New Ways To Die" looks pretty good and has gotten a bunch of praise.

Did anyone else grow disillusioned with "Brand New Day"? Is there anyplace you'd identify as a low point, but say that it's getting better now? Is "New Ways To Die" worth reading, regardless of whether I'm pulling ASM or not?

I don't know about a 'low point', but I would have to say that "New Ways to Die" is the best arc yet since the 'relaunch'. For the most part I've enjoyed the series, but it did feel like ASM was off on it's own side of the Marvel Universe for a while. I don't know if I'd call it inconsequential, but I understand that they wanted to reestablish the tone of the Spider-Man stories they'd be telling going forward, and that the most efficient way to do that was to kind of put the book back in it's corner, as it were.

Now that the book has had it's chance to set up some subplots and tone, "New Ways to Die" I think has gone towards putting ASM back into the middle of the Marvel Universe, out of it's corner. That resonates with me at least, in that ASM is having more of an effect in the Marvel Universe than it seemed to have had leading up to it.

While I'm probably not the guy you're looking for a response from, as I've been enjoying ASM this whole time, I do have a feeling that you'd enjoy at least "New Ways to Die" once it's collected. Or, if you can find the issues still on the stand, the stories AND the letter pages.(They've been printing a pretty good mix of positive and negative letters)

There is, of course, the fact that it craps all over Thunderbolts plots, but hey...
