Amazing Spider-Man Family #2

Story #1: The Long Road . . .
Writer: John Arcudi
Artist: Ramon Bachs

Characters Appearing:
Dexter Bennett, J. Jonah Jameson (FB only), Shocker, Spider-Man (& FB)

Synopsis:
1p1: "Three years ago." Peter sells JJJ a photo of the webbed up "Bodega Bandit."

1p2-2: "Today." A convenience store owner recognizes Dave Freed as the Bodega Bandit and chases him out of his store.

3-5: (Flashback) The Bodega Bandit robs a string of convenience stores at gunpoint. While fleeing from a robbery, Spider-Man catches him in an alley and webs him up.

6-11: Freed, newly released from prison, has a job interview that seems to go well. On his way home he gets a call turning him down. The parole office gets him a job as a school janitor. He is mocked by students who recognize him from the newspaper photo.

12-17: On the way home, he comes across a battle in the street between Spider-Man and the Shocker. He secretly roots for the Shocker, but Spider-Man wins the fight.

18-20: Freed talks with one of his old criminal contacts, looking for work. His contact won't help him because he's worried that Freed might turn on him if he's caught to avoid more prison time. Freed leaves in a rage and plans to mug a young couple who are approaching, but decides against it at the last minute.

21: Freed decides that since he can't make it through honest work or as a criminal, he'll drop out of society completely and becomes a homeless street person.

22: Peter sells Dexter Bennett a picture that's "emblematic of a loss of hope in New York." It's a photo of Freed sleeping in a cardboard box on the street.

Continuity Notes:
The Flashback sequences (3-5, 1p1) occur three years ago, when Jonah was still running the Bugle. The story concludes during Dexter Bennett's DB, but before Peter gets fired.

Story #2: Those Who Never Return! [MC-2]
Story & Pictures: Tom DeFalco & Ron Frenz
Inks: Sal Buscema

Characters Appearing:
Ben Parker (FB only), Mary Parker (FB only), May Parker (FB only), Richard Parker (FB only), Spider-Girl, Spider-Man (& FB), Anna Watson, Mary Jane Watson-Parker

Synopsis:
1: (Flashback) Richard and Mary Parker go away on a trip, leaving Peter with May and Ben.

2-4: Peter and Mary Jane leave baby May with Anna Watson for the day. On their way to ESU, they witness a drive-by shooting in which a woman is gunned down in front of her husband and baby.

5-9: Peter chases the van with the shooter while MJ tries to comfort the bleeding woman. Peter catches the criminals after a brief hostage situation. Meanwhile, MJ learns that woman's husband was an assistant DA and had had death threats. The woman dies.

10: MJ and Peter each arrive back at Anna's house and they both hold baby May.

Continuity Notes:
This story, like the one in the previous issue, needs to go in the gap between baby May's return and Peter's final battle with the Green Goblin. I am placing it after the story from issue #1, based purely on publication order.

Story #3: The Spectacular Rider-Man
Writer: Paul Benjamin
Pencils: Val Semeiks
Inks: Victor Olazaba

Characters Appearing:
Spider-Man

Synopsis:
1-8: Peter is riding the public bus to a job interview. The bus is held up because the road is blocked by the remains of a giant robot that was apparently recently destroyed by the FF. Peter gets off the bus and gives the construction workers advice (based on his experiences as Spider-Man) about clearing the debris off the road. The road is cleared, but a construction accident causes Peter's suit to get ruined. The bus leaves without him and he misses his interview. The last panel reveals that his interviewer was actually the man sitting next to him on the bus.

Chronology Notes:
Peter mentions several times that he is living with Vin, which places this in current continuity. He's on the way to a job interview, so this story probably belongs after he is fired by Dexter Bennett, and before he takes the job at Front Line. I don't think the giant robot corresponds to anything actually depicted in recent FF books.
