Slightly snarky highlights for this month :

NEW MINISERIES

- WAR OF KINGS #1 (of 6), by Abnett, Lanning and Pelletier, finally starts the big space event.

- DARK REIGN: ELEKTRA #1 (of 5), by Wells and Mann. She has a lot to catch up to, obviously.

- DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR #1 (of 5), by Hickman & Chen : because the main FF title is too busy (and late) to acknowledge the new statu quo.

- NEW AVENGERS: THE REUNION #1 (of 4), by McCann & Lopez, staring Ronin/Hawkeye & the recently returned Mockingbird

- SECRET INVASION CHRONICLES #1 (of 9), the latest incarnation of the event reprint book.

- THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES #1 (of 5), by the same team as the first mini.

- UNIVERSAL WAR ONE: REVELATIONS #1 (of 3) : second part of this Soleil property

ONESHOTS

- X-FORCE/CABLE: MESSIAH WAR PROLOGUE, by Kyle, Yost & Choi, kicks off a mini-crossover between X-FORCE and CABLE. Marvel seems to be doing a lot of those recently.

- SPIDER-MAN & THE HUMAN TORCH IN...¡BAHÍA DE LOS MUERTOS!, by Beland & Doe, is a followup to that 2007 pre-Millar oneshot by the same creative team. There's also a Spanish edition.

- MARVEL APES: SPEEDBALL SPECIAL, by Jenkins & Bachs, because you demanded it.

- DEADPOOL: GAMES OF DEATH, by Benson and Crystal : Deadpool goes into Reality TV.

- X-MEN: QUITTING TIME, by Asmus and "to be disclosed" :
Spoiler:
Nightcrawler
leaves the X-Men after X-Infernus.

- X-MEN: SWORD OF THE BRADDOCKS, by Claremont & Clark : cleaning up Psylocke's subplot before she rejoins the X-Men.

- WOLVERINE SAGA : because there's a movie this month. And hey, it's free.

- DARK TOWER: SORCERER #1, with guest art by Isanove (isn't he usually a colorist ?)

Glorified fill-in watch :
- AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE FEATURING REPTIL #1, by Gage and Uy. Who ?
- HULK: BROKEN WORLDS BOOK ONE (of TWO), by various, tours several alternate universes/timelines.

NOTABLE ISSUES

- I won't bother listing the Dark Reign tie-ins : it's basically the same titles as last month, plus the three new minis and INCREDIBLE HERCULES #127.

- DEADPOOL #8 and THUNDERBOLTS #130 start a small mini-crossover inside Dark Reign.

- WAR OF KINGS finally starts after months of buildup, with WOK #1, WOK:DARKHAWK #2, X-MEN: KINGBREAKER #4, NOVA #23 and the double-shipping GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #11 & #12.

- Ultimatum continues in ULTIMATUM #4 and ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #132, the only regular Ultimate title left standing.

- for the first time since the start of Brand New Day, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN only ships two issues this month (though there's also the third issue of that EXTRA! trailer book)

- Various titles will have "King" variants by "To Be Announced". Whatever that is.

- ADAM: LEGEND OF THE BLUE MARVEL has been scaled back from six to five issues.

- AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #30 is the last issue (though there will apparently be new stories in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN FAMILY)

- For some reason, SKAAR: SON OF HULK ships two issues this month.

- Special mention to the X-Books, who manage to nearly all ship the same week (UNCANNY #507, LEGACY #222, KINGBREAKER #4, X-FACTOR #41, X-FORCE #13, YOUNG X-MEN #12, WOLVERINE #71, WOLVERINE: ORIGINS #34 are all scheduled for 3/18).

GONE MISSING THIS MONTH :
- ASTONISHING X-MEN
- AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE
- HULK
- All the Icon books except INCOGNITO

Vaporware :
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: WHITE
- newuniversal: stormfront
- THE TWELVE (what happened ?)

(Note: I don't have my usual spreadsheet on hand, so I may have missed some.)

PRICE WATCH
A new feature ! Follow Marvel's price hikes in real time ! (for MU regular titles only)

- 40 pages for $3.99 : ASTONISHING TALES #2, AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #30
- 32 pages for $3.99 : DARK AVENGERS #3, NEW AVENGERS #51, THOR #601, PUNISHER: FRANK CASTLE #68

For some reason, the DR:FF mini is only $2.99 instead of the new regular $3.99 price for minis. Maybe because it's the 70th anniversary ?

NOTABLE COLLECTIONS

- Marvel Masterworks : Atlas Era Journey Into Mystery v2, Avengers v9, Warlock v2, X-Men (Lee/Kirby) v1
- Essentials : Power Man & Iron Fist v2
- Omnibuses : Ultimates by Millar/Hitch, Immortal Iron Fist by Brubaker/Fraction, Daredevil by Brubaker/Lark v1. Wow.
- New Mutants Classic v4

- AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED: IRON MAN, THOR & CAPTAIN AMERICA HC, collects the various eponymous tie-ins (including CAP & FALCON)

- ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: POWER & RESPONSIBILITY PREMIERE HC : reprinting the first arc in yet another format

- X-MEN: PHOENIX RISING PREMIERE HC (the various stories around the resurrection of Jean Grey)

- AVENGERS: HAWKEYE PREMIERE HC

- WOLVERINE: TALES OF WEAPON X GN-HC reprints the WEAPON X: FIRST CLASS mini, some issues of WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS... and WOLVERINE AND POWER PACK #2, for some reason.

- WOLVERINE GN looks like a deluxe SAGA book.

- WOLVERINE BY CLAREMONT & MILLER TPB reprints the first mini plus the two-issue "Logan & Mariko marriage" from UNCANNY #172-3.

- a new WOLVERINE: WEAPON X TPB printing. Did you know there was a movie this month ?

- SQUADRON SUPREME: THE PRE-WAR YEARS TPB reprints the unfinished JMS volume.

So, what caught up your eye this time ?

You forgot to mention that YOUNG X-MEN #12 is a "FINAL ISSUE!" that is actually described as such. This is a rarity in these days (years) of "stealth cancellations" by Marvel.

Actually, this is only in the printed PREVIEWS magazine : none of the online sources I linked to mention it.

By the way, speaking of silent cancellations... This is the first time in... a couple of years ? that there's no new POWER PACK & RANDOM GUEST STAR mini starting just after the last one. I may just be a skip month... Or they may have decided to pull the plug.
