Post by Col_Fury »

Eternals Annual v2 #1
January, 2009

Appearances:
Ikaris, Sersi, Makkari, Thena, Ajak, Legba, Zuras, Druig-BTS, Brightsword, Mindsinger, Sea Witch, Varua, Highnote, Genii, Moonstalker, Harvest, Calculus, Splice, Caduceus, Daydreamer

Synopsis:
Pg1-pg14
The entire population of Madripoor has fallen asleep and is technically brain-dead, so the Eternals check it out. Ikaris notices Legba looking around and accuses him of doing this, but Legba points out that he was sent by Druig to figure out what was going on, and that the group appearing to their left may have something to do with it. The Young Gods attack and fight the Eternals, Ajak tells them who the Young Gods are.
Pg15-pg16-FB
The Young Gods fly around in space, palling around with the Celestials.
Pg17-pg28
The Eternals fight the Young Gods.
Pg29-pg30-FB
Having not been told why they’ve been taken by the Celestials, the Young Gods try a variety of things to get their attention. After getting no response for so long, the Young Gods go a little nutty and decide to return to Earth to be it’s leaders.
Pg31-pg32
The Young Gods are defeated by the Eternals. As he leaves, Legba explains to Ikaris why he follows Druig; at least he’s honest with himself.

References:
This Annual was referenced as having already happened in the past in Eternals v4 #6, so this has to occur sometime before that. Also, since Legba is running around with his Eternals memories, this has to happen sometime after Eternals v4 #1. Anything more precise will have to be determined by a break in the plot in Eternals v4 1-6.

All in one day(under two hours) in Madripoor.

This issue heavily references Thor 300, and pretty much outright states that the Young Gods haven’t been seen on Earth since, but they were at least in Wisconsin in Marvel Comics Present 101-109. I would place the FlashBacks in this issue sometime after M/CP 109/2 and call it good enough.(...and after Avengers 371 for Varua...)

Oddly enough, I was trying to figure out the placement of this annual just last night. My best guess is that it occurs between the first two issues of the ongoing series. Since issues #4-6 have no breaks in them and Sersi is gone by the end, that means the annual must be before issue #4. Furthermore, although the action in issues #2-4 is not continuous and breaks COULD be inserted between them, they are closely linked in terms of plot developments (especially as regards to Ajak's activities) that seem to take place over a relatively short peiod of time. So, that leaves between #1 & 2 as the best fit.

I re-read issues 2-6 today on my lunch break and came to the same conclusion. As you say, things move along pretty quickly from issues 2-4 & 4-6. In addition, there's enough time to pass between issues 1 & 3 for Stoyanovich to go from a Colonel(issue 1) to a General,(issue 3) with the space being between 1 & 2. So yeah, between issues 1 & 2 is pretty much the only spot for the Annual.

Thanks Don!
