Coming from Marvel in July

Post by JD »

Full solicitations at Newsarama, as usual : http://www.newsarama.com/comics/090421- ... tions.html

NEW SERIES

- DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #1, by Gischler and Dazo. A second Deadpool ongoing ? Seriously ?

NEW MINISERIES

- REBORN #1 (of 5), by Brubaker and Hitch. No actual information beyond the creators, but this is presumably a big deal (they did pull Hitch off from Millar's last FF issue for this, after all). Are they already bringing Steve back, or is this just misdirection ?

- DARK X-MEN: THE BEGINNING #1 & 2 (of 3) : an anthology featuring the members of the Dark X-Men (who will presumably get an ongoing out of the Utopia crossover).
- WAR OF KINGS: WARRIORS #1 (of 2) is the same thing for the War of Kings crossover (this month : Gladiator and Blastaar).

- IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1 (of 5), by Aaron & Suayan, with a Swierczynsci/Foreman backup. Meanwhile, IMMORTAL IRON FIST goes on hiatus.

- UNCANNY X-MEN: FIRST CLASS #1 (of 8), by Gray and Cruz, focuses on the post-GSX1 era.

- MARVEL DIVAS #1 (of 4), by Aguirre-Sacasa and Zonjic, stars Hellcat, Black Cat, Firestar and Monica Rambeau.

- HALO: HELLJUMPER #1 (of 5), by David and Nguyen. Licensed title. Hopefully there won't be as much delays.

- SCOURGE OF THE GODS — THE FALL #1 (of 3), by Magin and Gajic. Soleil.

ONESHOTS

- DARK REIGN: THE GOBLIN LEGACY : 6 pages of a framing sequence by an unannounced creative team, around a recolored version of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #39-40.

- ULTIMATUM: FANTASTIC FOUR REQUIEM #1, by Pokaski and Atkins
- ULTIMATUM: X-MEN REQUIEM #1, by Coleite and Oliver
(If you're wondering, ULTIMATUM #5 has been pushed back to mid-July, hence why these epilogues are solicited so late. There's also ULTIMATUM: SPIDER-MAN REQUIEM #2.)

- ULTIMATE COMICS SAMPLER, previewing that imprint's relaunch. It's free !

- ALL SELECT COMICS #1 70TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, with a Blonde Phantom story by Guggenheim & Pulido, as well as a Marvex the Super-Robot story by Kupperman.
- USA COMICS #1 70TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, by Arcudi and Ellis, features the Mighty Destroyer.
(How many of these are they putting out ?)

- KID COLT #1, by DeFalco and Burchett, is a random Western one-shot.

- FRANKLIN RICHARDS: SCHOOL’S OUT!

- IRON MAN: ARMORED ADVENTURES, by To Be Announced : a tie-in to the animated series.

- THOR & HERCULES: ENCYCLOPAEDIA MYTHOLOGICA. With contributions by some of the writers of related books (Pak, Van Lente and Cornell).

Glorified fill-in watch :
- None this month.

NOTABLE ISSUES

- War of Kings continues in WOK #5, WOK:ASCENSION #4, WOK:WARRIORS #1, NOVA #27 and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #16.

- Utopia continues in UNCANNY X-MEN #513 and DARK AVENGERS #7. There's also the anthology DARK X-MEN: THE BEGINNING (which ships two issues in July), as well as the start of a tie-in arc in X-MEN: LEGACY #226.

- AMAZING SPIDER-MAN reaches #600, which means a super-duper anniversary issue (with no reprints, for once).
Once again there's only two issues this month, but there's also this year's Annual (#36, since they're now going back to the old numbering).

- INCREDIBLE HULK also reaches #600 (through some very dubious math), and gets its adjective back for the occasion. For some reason, they're shipping both the same week.

- CAPTAIN AMERICA #601 has guest art by none other than Gene Colan ! (It's a WW2 story guest-starring Nick Fury.)

- AGENTS OF ATLAS ships two issues this month (#7 & #8). So does MS. MARVEL (#41 & #42).

GONE MISSING THIS MONTH :
- SPIDER-WOMAN has been cancelled and "will be resolicited at a later date". How long has this been in the pipeline, anyway ?
- MARVEL ADVENTURES: FANTASTIC FOUR (okay, it's been silently cancelled)
- MOON KNIGHT (ditto)
- DAREDEVIL (and thus Marvel misses a third anniversary in the same month...)
- IMMORTAL IRON FIST (on hiatus)
- ASTONISHING X-MEN
- WOLVERINE: WEAPON X (already ?)

PRICE WATCH
Follow Marvel's price hikes in real time ! (for MU regular titles only)

- 104 pages for $4.99 : AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #600, INCREDIBLE HULK #600 (but only 38 pages of new material)
- 64 pages for $4.99 : AMAZING SPIDER-MAN FAMILY #8
- 48 pages for $3.99 : CAPTAIN AMERICA #601, FANTASTIC FOUR #569, DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #1 (including a reprint of NM 98)
- 40 pages for $3.99 : ASTONISHING TALES #6
- 32 pages for $3.99 : UNCANNY X-MEN #513, DARK AVENGERS #7, NEW AVENGERS #55, THOR #603, X-MEN FOREVER #3 & #4, PUNISHER: FRANK CASTLE MAX #72

Like most recent all-ages minis, UNCANNY X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has a $2.99 price point.

NOTABLE COLLECTIONS

- Marvel Masterworks : Atlas Era Menace v1, Inhumans v1, and a TPB of X-Men v2.
- Essentials : Marvel Two-In-One v3, Spectacular Spider-Man v4
- Cable Classic v2, New Warriors Classic v1 and... Annihilation Classic, which collects the debut appearances of various key players.

- TOMB OF DRACULA OMNIBUS VOL. 2 HC

- SPIDER-MAN NEWSPAPER STRIPS HC (the whole Lee/Romita run, apparently)

- MARVEL 70TH ANNIVERSARY TPB, with a slightly random assortment of more or less notable issues : SUB-MARINER #1, CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #2-3, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #2, TALES TO ASTONISH #13, AMAZING FANTASY #12, FANTASTIC FOUR #13, STRANGE TALES #115, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #50, AVENGERS #93, IRON MAN #128, UNCANNY X-MEN #132, DAREDEVIL #168, INCREDIBLE HULK #340, MARVELS #0, AVENGERS #4, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #13, NEW AVENGERS: ILLUMINATI #1 and CAPTAIN AMERICA #25.

- X-MEN: WOLVERINE/GAMBIT PREMIERE HC : still fallout from the movie ? Anyway, it's a Loeb/Sale collaboration, so it's not bad and very pretty.

- MEPHISTO VS. PREMIERE HC

- AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY JMS ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK 1 TPB

- CAPTAIN AMERICA: FIGHTING CHANCE VOL. 2 TPB (already ?)

- X-MEN: THE SHATTERING TPB : the prelude to the Twelve crossover.

Seriously.

This is a reprint of material previously available behind the paywall on Marvel's site, FTR.
JD wrote:- UNCANNY X-MEN: FIRST CLASS #1 (of 8), by Gray and Cruz, focuses on the post-GSX1 era.
"...just after the X-Men get back from their M’Kraan Crystal adventure shown in Uncanny #107-#108", specifically.

Heh. Years.

I suspect the badly-animated cartoon (sorry, "motion comic") is holding things up.

Have you seen Ron Garney's output? They had to give over half of Skaar to a backup strip as early as #2 because he's so slow (although his stint on Uncanny X-Men in the early 2000s was virtually record-breaking in terms of "fewest number of issues done by the regular artist in a specified period of time."
