Code of Honor #3

Post by Paul Bourcier »

Here is my proposal for modifying character chronologies based on Code of Honor #3, which has to date not had a complete profile in the MCP. I added page ranges since COH 3 takes place over a span of time. "Check" means the chronology is consistent with what's in the MCP. I didn't include the main characters in COH (Jeff Piper, etc.), who do not have entries yet.

Code of Honor 3 is extremely problematic- many of the appearances are impossible.

Unfortunately, Abomination had his atoms blown apart by Modok at the time but let's assume it's the real Abomination.

Unfortunately, Ape-Man was killed by Death-Stalker in DD 158, so this has to be a third Ape-Man.

This is problematic- it couldn't have been the Grimes brothers since IM 187-188 make it clear that they just found out about the costumes shortly before they first encountered Rhodey, and Dolly's spirit seemingly disintegrated in Spider-Woman 12. One of the Handbooks claims that it was the Grimes brothers but they have to basically ignore much of IM 187-188 to do so.

Cat-Man, like Ape-Man, was also killed in DD 158. It had to be a different Cat-Man.

ASM 237 is long before Secret Wars, so Stilt-Man's appearance would have to take place after ASM 237 and before IM 225.

You're absolutely right, Michael. I was off by one slot on the chronology. I'll update the post. Thanks for catching that!

Per Incredible Hulk Annual#15, Mephisto briefly restored the Abomination in time for him to appear in Secret Wars II#7. Mephisto recruited a few outlaws to join the Legion Accursed, recruiting them to destroy the Beyonder (the terms of the pacts did not entail indefinite slavery to Mephisto-the Juggernaut asked that Mephisto restore Cassidy Keep to the control of Black Tom Cassidy, Baron Mordo asked for aid in conquering the Dark Dimension for Umar, etc.). The Thing defeated the prospective assassins, though.

Tyrannus, who had turned into an energy entity due to exposure to Deviant technology per Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #243 and entered the periphery of Terra's atmosphere, sensed that the Abomination's atoms had also floated to the periphery of Terra's atmosphere, intended to use the Abomination's atoms to reincorporate himself, saw the Abomination's atoms in space but to his horror saw them disappear due to Mephisto. Mephisto restored the Abomination to an atomized state after Secret Wars II#7, though, Tyrannus saw the Abomination's atoms pop back into place, and Tyrannus did in fact reincorporate himself as the Abomination.

As Mephisto went to the trouble to re-disintegrate the Abomination, I get a sense that he did not reintegrate Mephisto until he saw the dire need to do so. However, we can justify the Abomination's appearance here as Mephisto's doing, I suppose. Why Mephisto did not think of making a long-term deal with the Abomination (and/or Tyrannus, for that matter) to restore them to normal, his oversight, his loss.
