Divided We Stand

I have a fair amount of free time this week, so I'm going to work through the 39 issues under the Divided We Stand banner.

X-Force #1
Appearances: Wolverine, Cyclops, Wolfsbane, Warpath, X-23, Rev. Matthew Risman, Eli Bard, Bastion

Synopsis: Cyclops informs Wolverine of the need to reform X-Force. Wolfsbane listens on the porch. X-23 examines the SHIELD facility just broken into by the Purifiers. X-Force infiltrates the Purifiers’ base just as Bastion and Nimrod are being combined into one. Risman tries to halt X-Force by holding a gun to a captured Wolfsbane's head. The issue ends with a BLAM!

NOTE: Wolverine states in his thoughts at the beginning that it's been two months since his memories were returned to him during House of M.


Flashback 1 (2:4, 3-5, 11:3-5)
Appearances: Rev. Matthew Risman, Agent Jeremy Latcham

Synopsis: (17 Hours before the issue)
Risman is lead through a SHIELD facility after checking himself in. Some SHIELD agents that are plants from the Purifiers lead him through the facility to obtain some artifact held deep underground. Agent Latcham commits suicide to protect mission intelligence as the Purifiers are leaving the facility.

Flashback 2 (7-8)
Appearances: Warpath

Synopsis: (Shortly after the Messiah Complex) Warpath buries Caliban at Camp Verde and swears a blood oath to end the Purifiers.

X-Force #2
Appearances: Agent Morales, Maria Hill (on screen), Warpath, Wolverine, X-23, Cyclops, Angel, Wolfsbane, Rev. Craig, Eli Bard, Rev. Risman, Bastion

Synopsis: Agent Morales and a team of SHIELD agents explore the ruins of the Purifier base. X-Force and Cyclops argue about what to do next and Angel overhears. Rahne wakes strapped into a chair and is confronted by her father Rev. Craig who proceeds with some sort of brainwashing program. Bastion takes over the Purifiers and forms a new plan, seeking out Magus at the bottom of the ocean to aid his forces in defeating the X-Men. X-Force attacks many Purifier bases as this occurs seeking information


Flashback (2-7) Immediately following issue #1
Appearances: Warpath, Wolverine, Wolfsbane, X-23, Rev. Matthew Risman, Eli Bard, Bastion, Rev. Craig

Synopsis: (Follows immediately from previous issue)
X-23 uses her senses and instincts to discover the Risman does not want to kill Rahne. She then blows up the place and kills most of the Purifiers. Risman, Eli Bard, Bastion, and an unidentified figure (later revealed to be Rev. Craig) escape with Rahne in a helicopter.

Synopsis: Bastion gathers some of the X-Men’s greatest adversaries and infuses them with the Techno-Organic virus in order to have control over them. Risman, Craig, and Eli Bard leave Wolfsbane at a Purifier facility for X-Force to find; Risman lies to Bastion when asked if Rahne is still alive. Bastion presents his Human Council.


X-Force #4

Synopsis: Elixir heals Rahne while X-23 and Wolverine converse outside. Warpath informs them of Rahne’s physical recover and takes Wolverine on a walk to cool down. Rahne’s brainwashing takes hold when she sees Angel and attacks his wings after knocking out Elixir. X-23 allows Rahne to overtake her instead of killing her. The Purifiers gather at a base where Wolfsbane has brought the wings. They proceed in making a Choir with Apocalypse’s technology and their methods of implanting the wings awaken Archangel back in Colorado.

X-Force #5

Synopsis: Archangel attacks the team and then flies off to find the Choir. Risman leads the Choir to Bastion’s location in order to end Bastion’s mission. Meanwhile, Rev. Craig is ordered to execute Wolfsbane.


X-Force #6

Synopsis: Wolverine relates the events at Bastion’s base to Cyclops.


Flashback (1-22)
This takes place immediately following issue #65

Synopsis: X-Force interrupts the confrontation between Risman and Bastion and fighting ensues. X-23 follows Risman and discovers Eli Bard taking the Techno-Organic virus from the Magus. She kills Risman and is rescued from Bard feeding on her by Warpath. At the facility Wolfsbane confronts Rev. Craig only to have her brainwashing kick in when he stands in front of the wings and she cannibalizes him. Archangel finishes taking out the Choir while Wolverine fights with Bastion and catches a glimpse of his Techno-Organically controlled Human Council before they fly away.

Cable #1

Synopsis: Cable makes his way to NYC five months after arriving on Muir Island in 2043 at the end of the Messiah Complex. Bishop shoots Cable as he enters a diner.


Cable #2
Appearances: Cable, Hope Summers, Bishop, Sophie Pettit, Turnpike Authority

Synopsis: Cable fights off Bishop until the Turnpike Authority steps in. Cable hides while Hope’s crying distracts everyone only to discover his time jumping technology has been damaged.

Flashback (14-19) Immediately following Messiah Complex
Appearance: Bishop, Forge, Al Buchanan, Sophie Pettit, Turnpike Authority

Synopsis: Bishop steals a cybernetic arm from Forge with time-traveling technology and follows Cable into the future. He finds a can of milk on Muir Island which leads him to Newark.


Cable #3
Appearances: Cable, Hope Summers, Bishop, Sophie Pettit, Cannonball 2043, Turnpike Authorit

Synopsis: Sophie takes Cable to her apartment and tends to his wounds after he telekinetically saved himself and Hope. Bishop is a prisoner of the Turnpike Authority and goads them into beating him until his power is recharged enough. There’s noise outside Sophie’s apartment and Cable prepares for an attack from Bishop but it turns out to be Cannonball.


Cable #4

Synopsis: Cannonball and Cable talk about what happened since the end of the Messiah Complex while Bishop makes his way to Sophie’s apartment. Cannonball stays behind to fight off Bishop while Cable and Sophie flee and is killed by Bishop.


Cable #5
Appearances: Cable, Hope Summers, Sophie Pettit, Bishop, Turnpike Authority

Synopsis: Cable and Sophie arrive in Westchester and make use of the armory. They fly the blackbird to NYC to confront Bishop. During the fight, Bishop mentions that there is no future because of Hope which makes Cable realize he can jump further into the future.

X-Factor #28
Appearances: Siryn, Madrox, Wolfsbane, Rictor, Strong Guy, M, Arcade-BTS

Synopsis: Rahne leaves the team with an incomplete explanation. Siryn comes to terms with carrying Jamie’s baby. Rictor gets in a fight with some pimps and is taken to the ER by Strong Guy who then follows Jamie as he goes and beats up a Purifier sect to take out his frustrations.

X-Factor #29
Appearances: Rictor, Madrox, Strong Guy, Siryn, M, Arcade-BTS, Mr. Taylor-BTS

Synopsis: Rictor burns Rahne’s note about leaving while Strong Guy and Madrox return home. In the midst of Siryn and Jamie’s misunderstanding, Rictor announces he’s leaving. Madrox and Guido go after him but decide to let him go. Just as he goes outside, the street turns to outer space. Guido opens the door, but thinks Rictor is crazy until he turns around and Rictor screams as he falls through a trapdoor. The team tears into the sidewalk to search after him and are separated when they hear Rictor’s shouts. M and Siryn fly off with a dupe while Madrox and Guido are faced with a giant boulder with Arcade’s face on the side.


X-Factor #30

Synopsis: X-Factor gets out of their traps and reunites to pursue Arcade. Val Cooper joins the police officers outside of Arcade’s barrier. M pursues Arcade through his escape shoot while the others confront Taylor. Taylor informs them of a failsafe mechanism which is a series of incendiary devices linked to his heartbeat which will detonate as soon as the poison he just drank works its way through his body.


X-Factor #31

Synopsis: Arcade fakes the group into thinking he’s a robot and they go off into the burning Middle East Side to rescue trapped civilians. Rictor returns to the console and tries to figure out Arcade’s system and ends up overloading it by hitting the console with a chair in frustration.

X-Factor #32
Appearances: Madrox, Rictor, Strong Guy, M, Siryn, Val Cooper, Nathan Patrofsky

Synopsis: Val makes offers to X-Factor that they can enter Witness Protection or take missions from the government again. They talk after Jamie finds out Nathan died at the hospital and decide to make their own third option. Val comes to their headquarters the next day and listens to a video of Jamie that sets off a detonation sequence for their old HQ. Five months later (pp.20-22), X-Factor has set up shop in Detroit and Val confronts Jamie stating that “This is going to be the start of a beautiful relationship."

X-Men Legacy #208

Synopsis: The Acolytes stand around Charles’ comatose body. Exodus destroys Charles’ mind in order to build it anew to repair the damage and get around Charles’ psychic defenses. Exodus brings in Magneto to provide the proper stimulus for rebuilding Charles’ mind.

Flashback 1 (1-3)
Appearances: Professor X, Moira MacTaggart

Synopsis: Charles and Moira discuss the emergence of mutants at a café in Scotland. Bishop appears and shoots Charles in the head. (It switches from flashback to dream sequence.)

Flashback 2 (6:1-2)
Appearances: Professor X

Synopsis: Charles in the war in Korea receiving thoughts and feelings from the dying soldiers.

Flashback 3 (8:6, 9)

Synopsis: Magneto has Omega Sentinel generate a field of energy to stimulate Xavier’s brain which causes him to awaken from his coma. Frenzy comes in to kill Xavier only to be stopped by Magneto after she battles Omega Sentinel. Exodus then comes and tries to kill Magneto for harming Cargill, since he is now powerless, but before he can act, Xavier challenges him on the psychic plane.

Epilogue: Rogue fills up her motorcycle at a gas station in the Australian outback.

Epilogue 2: Roberto DaCosta is having dinner at the Hellfire Club. An attendant comes in to show Sebastian Shaw that a certain machine gave off readings and exploded.

Synopsis: Trask and Xavier debate about the use of Sentinels.

Synopsis: Cain Marko is awakened by a psionic intrusion and promptly puts on his helmet. Thirteen days after the end of last issue, Xavier visits his childhood friend Carter who is a depowered mutant and had similar tests run on him by the geneticists with whom Brian Xavier worked. One of them was sinister in disguise. Meanwhile, Sunspot and Shaw argue about the machine that exploded which Shaw had been keeping secretly on the Hellfire Club premises. Carter dies that night as Xavier is ambushed in his motel room, only to have the attack thwarted by Gambit.

Flashback 1 (8-9)

Synopsis: The Xaviers have disagreement about the boys being put under so much testing. Then Sinister gives the boys injections under the guise of Dr. Milbury.

Synopsis: Xavier runs a test on Phoenix while discussing death and rebirth with her as part of her newly discovered power set.


X-Men Legacy #212
Appearances: Gambit, Professor X, Sebastian Shaw, Amanda Mueller-BTS
Synopsis: Gambit helps Xavier fend off the Assassins Guild and shows him a list with his, Cain Marko’s, Carter Ryking’s, and Sebastian Shaw’s names on it. The next day they check on Carter only to find out he died. Shaw spots them exiting the psych ward and follows. Gambit and Xavier ride out into the desert to Alamogordo to look for answers and are ambushed at night while Charles starts having metaphorical flashback involving Sinister.

Flashback 1 (5-6 – X 92)
Appearances: Professor X, Cyclops, Phoenix, Storm, Colossus, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Wolverine (Skrull), Rogue, Gambit, Marrow

Synopsis: Professor X disbands the X-Men to ferret out the intruder in their ranks without letting the team know of this. Gambit stays behind after the announcement and lets Xavier know that Gambit’s onto his lie.

Flaskback 2 (10)
Appearances: Kurt Marko, Sharon Xavier, Professor X, Juggernaut

Synopsis: Kurt beats Sharon because she wants to try and leave Alamogordo but Milbury (Sinister) won’t let them. Cain and Charles watch from the stairs as they fight. It’s also revealed that Sharon was forced to marry Kurt because they can’t leave.


X-Men Legacy #213
Appearances: Professor X, Gambit, Sebastian Shaw, Amanda Mueller, Mr. Sinister

Synopsis: Sinister convinces some of the Assassins Guild to take Xavier hostage while Gambit and Shaw fight off the rest. They were hired by Amanda Mueller to off everyone on the list so that Sinister’s powers could be reborn in her body. She shoots Xavier just as Gambit and Shaw break in. Fighting ensues and when Gambit goes to check on Xavier, his body stands up with Sinister’s glowing eyes and diamond on the forehead.

Flashback 1 (11)

Synopsis: Sinister shows a double helix model to Jacob and explains how he’ll guarantee his immortality by hiding himself in the DNA of four boys who will grow to be mutants.

X-Men Legacy #214
Appearances: Professor X, Mr. Sinister, Gambit, Sebastian Shaw, Amanda Mueller

Synopsis: Charles fights off Sinister in his mind as Gambit and Shaw work to destroy the Cronus machine. Eventually they succeed and destroy the Alamogordo facility. Charles leaves to speak with Scott Summers. Two days later (sixteen days after Xavier left the Acolytes), Shaw has lunch with a female clone of Sinister who takes the apt title Miss Sinister.

Flashback 1 (1 – UX 1)

Synopsis: Charles explains why he founded the school to his first class of students in a memory loop created by Sinister.

Synopsis: Mystique enters a village in the mountains as Wolverine and kills a woman to turn the village against him when he arrives.

Flashback 1 (1-3, 17-18)
Appearances: Wolverine, Mystique

Synopsis: Wolverine and Mystique are each Mexican prisoners put up at the same time for execution by firing squad in 1921. They escape and head to Kansas City

Flashback 2 (10-16) Just after the end of the Messiah Complex
Appearances: Cyclops, Wolverine

Synopsis: Three days prior, Cyclops sends Wolverine from Muir Island to kill Mystique. 8.5 hours later he’s in pursuit of her in Tehran.


Wolverine #63
Appearances: Wolverine, Mystique, Senator Brickman

Synopsis: Wolverine is shot up and tossed over a cliff after being framed by Mystique. Two days later, Mystique, disguised as a nun, and Logan talk in a bar. She takes off and murders a senator in order to take his place with some military muscle as protection. Logan travels to a militant stronghold to call in a favor.

Flashback 1 (1-5)
Appearances: Mystique, Wolverine, Pete the Pygmy, Big Pearl, Honeypot May, Six-Fingered Soapy, One-Eyed Ande

Synopsis: Kansas City 1921. Mystique introduces her band of swindlers while Logan stops some guys from removing Six-Fingered Soapy’s sixth finger for cheating at cards.

Flashback 2 (17-18)

Synopsis: Mystique tries to convince Logan to stay with her band of swindlers.


Wolverine #64
Appearances: Wolverine, Mordad, Mystique

Synopsis: The next day Wolverine has Mordad and his men help him blow himself up to get into the US industrial complex to find Mystique. They fight and Mystique escapes by calling the guards and then stealing a jeep and weapons.

Flashback 1 (1-3, 17-20) Kansas City 1921
Appearances: Wolverine, Mystique, Pete the Pygmy, Big Pearl, Honeypot May, Six-Fingered Soapy, One-Eyed Ande

Synopsis: Mystique reveals her plan of robbing a federal reserve bank to Logan. Mystique holds up the bank impersonating its president while Soapy opens the vault. Mystique disappears with some valuables just as to police catch Soapy opening the vault.


Wolverine #65
Appearance: Wolverine, Mystique

Synopsis: They fight and Mystique shoots a bullet into his brain. He wakes up and leaves her to die in the desert.

Flashback (1-3, 15-19) Kansas City 1921
Appearances: Wolverine, Pete the Pygmy, Big Pearl, Honeypot May, Six-Fingered Soapy, One-Eyed Ande

Synopsis: The police start a shoot-out with Mystique’s gang killing all of them as Logan goes after her for selling them out. They meet on a train and discuss what happened before she kicks him out the door into the snow.

Uncanny X-Men #495
Appearances: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Shanna, Ka-Zar, Zabu, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Angel

Synopsis: Emma wakes Scott from a dream in the Savage Land then they enjoy the day with Shanna and Ka-Zar. In Germany, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine meet up to travel to Russia and visit Colossus’ homeland. The next day Cyclops receives an email from Angel about a strange occurrence at the meeting point for the X-Men in San Francisco. A section of the city seems to have reverted back to the 1960s.

Flashback (5-7)
Appearances: Cyclops, Iron Man

Synopsis: Two weeks before the present and shortly after the Messiah Complex, Iron Man visits Cyclops on the ruins of the Xavier Institute. He talks with Cyclops about how the X-Men are expected to be registered with the Initiative. Cyclops tells him there are no more X-Men before leaving the grounds.


Uncanny X-Men #496
Appearances: Hepzibah, Angel, Mastermind, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus

Synopsis: Hepzibah and Angel are shown at a party in the 60s zone of San Francisco. Emma and Scott travel to the city to find out exactly what’s going on. Meanwhile, Colossus visits his family’s graves and goes to a bar with Wolverine and Nightcrawler to talk about their sorrows and feel better. Some local thugs come in asking for money from the bartender and the three of them get into a brawl to throw them off. Colossus is recognized and his existence reported to Moscow.


Uncanny X-Men #497
Appearances: Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Mastermind

Synopsis: Emma arouses the notice of the Goddess (Mastermind) while trying to pinpoint the source of the 60s wave. The Goddess sends the SFPD after them. Meanwhile, Colossus, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler are captured on their train and taken to the Red Room in Moscow.


Uncanny X-Men #498
Appearances: Mastermind, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Warpath, Iceman, Hepzibah, Angel

Synopsis: Mastermind remembers her name is Martinique. Wolverine is tortured to try and get Colossus to talk. Nightcrawler teleports on top of Wolverine in order to overload the electrical restraints with his own. They get the upper hand just as the director of the Red Room frees Omega Red. Synopsis: Mastermind loses her memory some time after M-Day and is discovered by some old hippies. She looks into their mind and begins casting an illusion across San Francisco.

Synopsis: Cyclops and Emma fight their teammates and Emma works her way into Mastermind’s illusion and mind. Meanwhile, the three in Russia fight Omega Red until Nightcrawler teleports him into the sky and drops him from that height. As the illusion fades in San Francisco, Angel saves Mayor Sadie Sinclair from being run over by a runaway truck and she welcomes the X-Men to her city. In the aftermath, a shadowy figure (later revealed to be Madelyne Pryor) pulls Mastermind away from the wreckage to join her Sisterhood.

X-Men: Divided We Stand #1
Story 1
Appearances: Cannonball, Husk

Synopsis: Husk picks up Cannonball from the airport in Kentucky. He makes her stop at a bar where he picks a fight with some Cabots. After the fight he tells her it’s his way of making a Danger Room and keeping up his skills. Then he flies away saying it was stupid to try and come home.

Story 2
Appearances: Gentle, Storm, Black Panther

Synopsis: Storm returns Gentle home to Wakanda three days after the Messiah Complex with her where he is a pariah for being receiving his mutant gene from his non-Wakandan father. A little boy speaks to him and is called away by his mother. The boy is nearly run over by a truck and only saved by Gentle. It turns out the woman his mother, and the boy his half brother. She tells him he is nothing to them. That night he finds himself missing his friends.

Story 3
Appearances: Northstar, Anole, Cyclops-BTS

Synopsis: Cyclops sends Northstar to check on Anole since it’s been three months since the end of the Messiah Complex and no one’s heard from him. Anole tells him they stole their innocence and then just ended everything before socking him in the face and leaving home.

Flashback
Appearances: Anole, Mr. Borkowski, Mrs. Morkowski

Synopsis: Anole finds himself behind the other students at school and attacks his father by mistake when he drops and shatters a coffee cup in the kitchen.

Story 4
Appearances: Hellion, Magneto

Synopsis: Hellion asks Magneto to take him in and use him against the X-Men. Magneto informs him that he’s been given the gift of time before war comes to the X-Men again.

Flashback
Appearances: Hellion, Emma Frost

Synopsis: Hellion wakes up after Messiah Complex and is brought up to speed by Emma. He promptly freaks out. He goes around trying to catch the X-Men’s attention and then begins searching for Magneto

Story 5
Appearances: Scalphunter, Nightcrawler

Synopsis: Three weeks and nine days since the X-Men disbanded, Scalphunter is working as a short-order cook in a diner in a small Western town. Nightcrawler visits him as a priest and eventually attacks and tells him he forgives Scalphunter for all his sins.


X-Men: Divided We Stand #2
Story 1
Appearances: Beast, Wolverine, No-Girl

Synopsis: Wolverine drops off Beast at the ruins of the mansion to get rid of anything that could be used against the X-Men. He finds No-Girl amongst the ruins.

Story 2
Appearances: Magik

Synopsis: Magik reflects on her life and visit the Xavier institute only to find it in ruins and vow to reclaim her soul and her life through pain and vengeance.

Story 3
Appearances: Havok, Vulcan, Raza-BTS, Chod-BTS, Polaris-BTS

Synopsis: Vulcan torments Havok with the screams of his teammates and relates to him the story of the Messiah Complex. However knowledge of the baby only serves to inspire hope and a will to survive in Havok.

Story 4
Appearances: Forge, Bishop

Synopsis: Forge tries to work on the time travel devices after waking up in the hospital, but Bishop steals his tech. When he awakens he begins scribbling down ideas and starts safeguarding Eagle Plaza so he won’t be disturbed in trying to bring his ideas to fruition.

Story 5
Appearances: Mirage, Surge

Synopsis: Surge runs to Colorado looking for Dani to help deal with her inner turmoil.

Young X-Men #1
Appearances: Blindfold, Wolf Cub, Donald Pierce, Dust, Graymalkin, Ink, Leon Nunez, Rockslide, Maximus Lobo

Synopsis: Blindfold has a vision of Pierce killing one of her friends. “Cyclops” (Pierce using an image inducer) recruits various former students of the X-Men in the weeks following Messiah Complex as the last generation of X-Men and also a new young man codename Ink. Their targets are the original New Mutants who are apparently now associated with the Hellfire Club.


Young X-Men #2
Appearance: Rockslide, Dust, Ink, Wolfcub, Blindfold, Donald Pierce, Graymalkin, Cipher-BTS, Mirage, Magma

Synopsis: The Young X-Men fail against a training scenario against solid holograms of the New Mutants. Pierce as Cyclops splits them into two teams to take on two of the New Mutants solo. Rockslide, Wolf Cub and Dust are sent after Magma. Ink and Blindfold successfully capture Mirage with the invisible aid of Cipher to fulfill Blindfold’s vision.


Young X-Men #3

Synopsis: Ink delivers Blindfold and Mirage to Pierce, not knowing he’s also pretending to be Cyclops. The team up against Magma just barely captures her with Dust turned to glass in the process as Cannonball and Sunspot watch the fight from the Hellfire Club mansion. Back at headquarters Dust’s condition is assessed and Wolf Cub discusses the necessity about killing with “Cyclops.” Graymalkin contemplates what to do and talks to an invisible Cipher. Meanwhile, a man who received a tattoo that gave him a superpower breaks an inmate out of jail. Mirage attacks Blindfold to find out what is going on only to be confronted by Pierce.


Young X-Men #4
Appearances: Ink, Leon Nunez, Wolf Cub, Rockslide, Donald Pierce, Sunspot, Cannonball, Graymalkin, Cipher-BTS

Synopsis: Ink gets a telepathy tattoo from Nunez. “Cyclops” sends the male Young X-Men against Sunspot and Cannonball at the Hellfire Club mansion. Meanwhile, Graymalkin confronts “Cyclops” at the Danger Cave and revels that he’s actually Pierce.


Young X-Men #5
Appearances: Pierce, Graymalkin, Dust, Cipher-BTS, Magma, Cannonball, Sunspot, Mirage, Rockslide, Wolf Cub, Ink, Blindfold

Synopsis: Graymalkin continues fighting Pierce and Magma joins, causing Pierce to teleport away. Dust is accidentally shattered in the process but reconstructed by Magma. Meanwhile, the fight at the Hellfire Club continues. Magma, Dust, and Graymalkin fly over and join the fight when Cannonball blows up the Blackbird. The misunderstanding is sorted out and the Young X-Men and New Mutants confront Pierce, which results in Wolf Cub’s death as seen in Blindfold’s vision in issue #1.
