Daredevil: Cage Match #1

Post by Col_Fury »

Daredevil: Cage Match #1

APPEARANCES:
Daredevil, Power Man (Luke Cage), Iron Fist, Foggy Nelson, Bookie (Lester Ladue, in FB), Turk

FLASHBACK:
Bookie takes bets on the Cage/Daredevil fight.

SYNOPSIS:
While Daredevil and Luke Cage stop some muggers, Cage prevents one of them from shooting Daredevil by crushing the gun's barrel. Daredevil thanks Cage, but lets him know he wasn't in trouble. They give each other some grief and decide to settle their differences in a boxing match at Fogwell's Gym, with $1,000 to the winner's charity. Later, Foggy questions Matt Murdock about his ability to defeat Cage. Matt responds that he has too much respect for Cage to back out. Meanwhile, Iron Fist tries to talk Cage into backing out of the fight, because there's no way for Daredevil to win. Cage responds that he has too much respect for Daredevil to do that. Turk overhears the conversation. When the heroes meet at Fogwell's Gym they quickly discover Turk, who thinks the $1,000 stake is present. They let Turk stay to watch and start the match, but Cage starts to get sluggish. Daredevil realizes too late that Turk has spiked Cage's water, and when Cage falls Turk takes his picture. Turk reveals bets have been made with the Bookie on the fight, and he had money on Daredevil. They destroy Turk's camera and kick him out. Foggy turns around to find Daredevil and Cage continuing with the fight out of respect for each other.

NOTE:
Power Man is still wearing his sweet yellow open-chested shirt with an awesome tiara.

Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson are still law partners.

Put both of these together and we’re looking at pre-Born Again (DD #227-233) era, which was published in 1986. Daredevil and Power Man’s chronologies line up shortly after Secret Wars II, so…

Hey, Col_Fury. Are there any temporal references?

Unfortunately, we've got the Kingpin's apppearances in DD 227-230 placed prior to ASM 274, which takes place about a day before SWII 9. So DD 227 has to take place BEFORE SWII 9.
I just found a preview of this issue online:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=5127
Is this preview accurate? Foggy seems to know Matt's identity. If Foggy knows Matt's identity, then this has to be after DD 348.

I'd say the whole thing is less than 24 hours. After midnight of one night and into the next night.

Foggy found out that late? That's after DC vs. Marvel! Luke Cage stopped wearing that get-up years before that...

Maybe we should just assume Luke lost a bet and had to wear his '70's costume and call himself Power Man again?

Can we just write off that costume entirely as a topical reference? :-)

Most of the world believes Matt to be dead in between DD 325 and DD 353. If Foggy and Matt are partners, then maybe this should be moved after DD 353.
