X-Men Unlimited v1 #40-50

Post by Chris McCarver »

X-MEN UNLIMITED #40 (Feb. 2003)

Story #1: “Hunters” (Steven Grant/David Finch/John Livesay/Randy Gentile/Guru eFX)

Featured Characters: Sabretooth
Other Characters: Teneber, Powell (hunters, Teneber dies)

In Brief: A pair of hunters wielding advanced weaponry hunt Sabretooth through an unidentified wintery wilderness. Despite their technological advantages, Sabretooth kills one and leaves one stripped naked to fend for himself.

Analysis: Zero chronological clues in this tale. Falling back on publication order, this would be likely be inserted between the SABRE:MSO series and the WX2 ongoing.

Story #2: “Animals” (Chuck Austen/Clayton Henry/Mark Morales/Randy Gentile/Guru eFX)

Featured Characters: Mystique, Sabretooth
Other Characters: Two cargo ship crewmen (Christian named, both die), three mutant criminals (Clicker named, one other dies), soldiers

In Brief: Depicting Sabretooth and Mystique’s first meeting, the story begins with Mystique (in human form) wandering through a German forest and finding Sabretooth camping there. After sharing his dinner and invoking the “gas, grass, or you-know-what” rule, Creed lets Raven tag along on a ship bound for Canada that he secured passage on. After the pair reveal to one another that they’re mutants, Raven manipulates Creed into slaughtering the crew. In Canada, they meet up with with a mutant gang and Creed assumes leadership by killing their leader. While in bed together, Raven drugs Creed and sells him out to the local military, who haul him away in a cage the next morning.

Analysis: The X-Men Index places this story immediately following UX 428 for Mystique. This has to precede the flashback in SABRE 3 where Creed meets Mystique as Leni Zauber, and I’m thinking this follows Sabretooth’s exploits with Fury’s ’50s Avengers in A1959 and precedes Sabretooth being inducted into Weapon X in XO:SABRE (17-19) (I don’t have access to this issue, so I’m speculating here based on the opening chronology in the Wolverine Index, can someone who has it confirm?).

Story #3: “Slam” (Nick Bertozzi/Dean Haspiel/Dean Haspiel/Randy Gentile/Jeromy Cox)

Featured Characters: Brotherhood of Evil Mutants: Juggernaut (Marko), Mastermind (Jason Wyngarde), Toad (Toynbee)
Other Characters: MC Ms. Thing (bar owner), pedestrians, cabbie, bouncer, bar patrons, bartender

In Brief: Juggernaut goes to a bar to perform at a poetry slam in order to impress the bar’s owner, for whom he’s a bit smitten. Mastermind sends Toad after him to “bring him back to his senses.” At the slam, Juggernaut begins to attract Ms. Thing with his verse, but the Toad jumps on stage to stop him from getting too much into his pastime. Cain tries to punch Toad, who is on his back, but Toad pries off his helmet at the last second and Cain coldcocks himself accidentally. Ms. Thing is nevertheless impressed with his poem, and Toad hits on the bartender.

Analysis: I’m leaning HEAVILY towards this being an out-of-continuity story. Even without the humorous overtones, we’ve got Juggernaut portrayed as a Brotherhood member and he can only claim one time as a BoEM member and that’s when he infiltrated them for the X-Men in X 161, and we have Toad in his heavier-set, pre-Prosh-healed form while using the prehensile tongue he gained in his newer form. Even if we handwave the artistic depictions in favor of placing the appearances closer to when Cain and Mortimer were with the BoEM (discounting the fact that Cain was only with them very briefly and never served alongside Mortimer), we’ve got them paired up with Jason Wyngarde, who’s been dead since UX@ 17, ten years before this issue released.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #41 (Mar. 2003)

Story #1: “Dark and Scary Things” (Chuck Austen/Skottie Young/Joe Seung/Randy Gentile/Oscar Carreno & Studio F)

Feature Characters: Exiles: Blink (Earth-295), Nocturne (Earth-2182)
Additional Characters (all from the same unidentified alternate reality): Ben Parker (dies off-panel), presumably May Parker (corpse), Peter Parker, Wolverine, unnamed spider-god

In Brief: On an alternate Earth where a young Peter Parker is tormented by his abusive Uncle Ben, Blink and Nocturne embark on a side mission to break out that reality’s criminally murderous Wolverine from prison to take him to the Parkers’ home, where the Tallus tells them he is supposed to be. They find the remains of May Parker amidst a network of spider-webs and learns that a gigantic spider-god has befriended Peter and killed his aunt and uncle. While Blink and Nocturne rescue Peter, who doesn’t want to be rescued, Wolverine and the spider-god kill one another inside the house. The Tallus spirits away the two Exiles, who are unaware of the fresh bite Peter’s “friend” left in his neck.

Analysis: This at the latest precedes EX3 18, since Nocturne’s sporting her cornrows and she was captured by Mojo and had her head forcibly shaved in EX3 18. Even discounting the hair, this at least has to precede EX3 20 since Blink left the Exiles in the EX3 20-22 story arc. Given publication dates and those caveats, I’m thinking a good insertion is between EX3 17-18.

Story #2: “A Hard Day’s Fight” (Mike Allred & Nick Derrington/Nick Derrington/Nick Derrington/Randy Gentile/Laura Allred)

Feature Characters: X-Statix: Anarchist, Dead Girl, Doop, Orphan (Smith), Phat, Venus Dee Milo, Vivisector (Alfred)
Other Characters: Victor Filson (X-Statix’s PR manager), Anarchist’s unnamed adoptive grandfather, X-Statix fans, reporters, clothing manufacturer

In Brief: Accompanied by Filson and Tike’s grandfather, Anarchist, Orphan, Phat, and Vivisector go on a PR junket, then meet up with Dee, Dead Girl, and Doop, who opted out to go shopping.

Analysis: Paul’s calendar places this story between pages 1-2 of XSTATIX 2. Not inclined to disagree.

Story #3: “Something in the Air” (Jamie Delano/Neil Googe/Neil Googe/Randy Gentile/Len O’Grady)

Feature Character: MC Milo Mystik (Milo Smutts, mutant that secretes empathic pheromones via perspiration, first and potentially final appearance)
Other Characters: Miss Jiminez (teacher), high school students

Analysis: MC Milo Mystik performs at the American Megastar final victory show to a maniacally adoring crowd. His mutant powers backfire, causing the crowd to rush the stage and savagely swarm him, potentially killing him.

Flashback (2-12:3): Bullied and teased for his heavy perspiration, Milo realizes his mutant ability when his attractive teacher, affected by his pheromones, lustfully throws herself at him. He attempts to use his power to his advantage, but clumsiness and prevailing winds result in failure. About ready to call it quits, Milo sees an ad for the auditions of the American Megastar reality show and applies. Using his pheromones, he soars through the competition and eventually wins.

Flashback-within-flashback (4): Milo witnesses a riot at a video arcade he’s playing in, and later sees the entire audience at a horror movie he’s screening go mad with hysterics.

Analysis: Completely self-contained and Milo’s made no further appearances since that I can find, presuming he survived the mauling. Slam dunk.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #42 (Apr. 2003)

Story #1: “Ice Queen” (David Conway/Keron Grant/Rob Stull/Randy Gentile/Jonathan D. Smith)

Feature Character: Emma Frost
Other Characters: Kristal van Helden (heiress) and her henchmen and scientists (Dr. Klein named) (all die)

In Brief: At an arcology in Antarctica, Emma Frost is abducted by Kristal van Helden in order to mine her DNA for diamonds to use as both currency and construction material for endothermic crystal armor she intends to sell on the black market. Unknowingly working from a suggestion planted by Emma, Kristal creates a variety of crystalline flora and fauna as a display of her subjugation of Emma, which backfires when Emma reveals that all of her crystal lifeforms are at her control, since they’re extensions of her nervous system. She uses the creatures to kill Van Helden and her henchmen, then hoofs it to a nearby research station.

Analysis: Going back to Paul’s calendar for this one, which places it between X 131 and XX 20 for Emma.

Story #2: “Fear” (Nunzio DeFilippis & Christina Weir/Joshua Middleton/Joshua Middleton/Randy Gentile/colorist uncredited)

Feature Characters: Danielle Moonstar
Other Characters: Paul (a guy Dani met hiking), ski lodge patrons, three masked armed robbers, ski lodge security guards

In Brief: Dani meets up with Paul at a ski lodge for a date, which is quickly interrupted by a trio of stick-up artists. Dani quickly puts down the attempted robbery with her illusory powers, which freaks out Paul enough that Dani leaves once the lodge’s security guards take the robbers away.

Analysis: Again going to the calendar.

Story #3: “It’s the Thought that Counts” (J. Torres/Takeshi Miyazawa/Takeshi Miyazawa/Randy Gentile/Brian Reber)

Feature Characters: Angel (Worthington), Beast (McCoy), Cyclops (Summers), Iceman, Marvel Girl (Grey), Professor X

In Brief: Jean returns from shopping to find the mansion a shambles. It turns out to be a ruse that hides a surprise birthday party thrown by Xavier and the other X-Men. Among Jean’s presents are her 70s-era uniform, gifted to her by Xavier.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

Story #4: “The Sound of Music” (Darko Macan/Danijel Zezelj/Danijel Zezelj/Randy Gentile/colorist uncredited)

Feature Characters: Professor X, Jean Grey (bts, out running errands)
Other Characters: Dr. Marc Dale (mutant healer), Tasha (passive telepath), typist

In Brief: Xavier is called in by Dale to help Tasha, who’s having great difficulty dealing with the cacophony of voices in her head.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #43 (May 2003)

Story #1: “Keepsake” (Chris Claremont/Bill Sienkiewicz/Bill Sienkiewicz/Randy Gentile/Jose Villarrubia)

Featured Characters: Cannonball, Karma, Danielle Moonstar, Sunspot, Wolfsbane
Other Characters: Dr. Rusch (Rahne’s doctor), Mr. Trigorin (Russian crimelord), Rahne’s friends (Ruth named), thugs (Joey, Jackie, and Carl named), pawnbroker, Trigorin’s guards

In Brief: As Sunspot sees a news alert that Wolfsbane was violently mugged at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the rest of the O.G. New Mutants track down the thugs that mugged Rahne, then go hunting for the necklace they stole from her (that she got from Robert the Bruce in NM 47). They track it to a Russian crimelord and find Sunspot negotiating for it. The meeting nevertheless descends into a battle, but the New Mutants prevail and retrieve the necklace. The former teammates reflect on their pasts and futures at Harry’s Hideaway.

Flashback: “Hours” before Roberto gets the news alert. At the museum, Rahne regales friends with a story of the New Mutants’ adventures with Robert the Bruce. A street thug snatches Rahne’s necklace, leaving her with a serious head injury.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets for Wolfsbane, minus the PFB. Extrapolating and checking the Calendar for placement on the others. Need to mention here that Dani Moonstar is not listed for her appearances in UX 425 or 426 in the X-Men Index TPB, so we’ve got possible errata there.

Story #2: “Lockheed the Dragon” (Steven Grant/Paul Smith/Paul Smith/Randy Gentile/Jeromy Cox)
Feature Character: Lockheed
Other Characters: Regina and Martina Wolcroft (mischievous teenage sorceresses) and their mother, Thorne (another similarly powered girl, the Wolcrofts’ rival), Mr. Tyler (grocery owner), teachers, schoolchildren (Andrew Frazer named), hunters (Mr. McKay named),

In Brief: In an English village, an injured Lockheed, believing Kitty Pryde dead, is rescued from hunters and taken in by the Wolcroft sisters, who use their magic powers to intimidate their entire town. Though initially thankful to find new friends and oblivious to the sisters’ terrorizing everyone around them and bending them to their will, Lockheed realizes the girls’ true colors when they face their rival, a similarly powered girl named Thorne, Thorne befriends him while the girls berate him and throw a rock at him when he doesn’t follow their order to burn her with his flame-breath. Lockheed torches the two girls, forcing them to run for the hills. Thorne heals Lockheed’s torn wing and tells him that Kitty is alive and in Chicago, and he flies there at her heeding.

Analysis: Going to the Calendar again. The story mentions a battle wherein Lockheed and Kitty thought one another dead, but I’ve got no idea what they’re referring to. Lockheed’s with Kitty in XX ’01, so this story precedes that one at the latest, but preceding that is XCAL 125, where Kitty and Lockheed attend Brian and Meggan’s wedding, so this battle’s probably undocumented.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #44 (May 2003)

“Can They Suffer?” (Chuck Austen/Romano Molenaar/Danny Miki/Randy Gentile/Dean White)

Feature Characters: Cyclops (Summers), Annie Ghazikhanian, Carter Ghazikhanian, Iceman, Juggernaut (Marko), Nightcrawler, Sammy Pare, Phoenix (Grey-Summers), Phoenix Force (BTS), Professor X, Ed Starkweather, Wolverine
Supporting Characters: Salem Center PD (Officer Algera named), trio of juvenile animal torturers and their fathers (one of whom is Starkweather)

In Brief: At Sammy Pare’s urging, the X-Men contend with a gang of kids that torture animals.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets for all characters concerned, but we have errata for the X-Men Index, as Archangel’s listed as appearing in this issue after UX 420. He actually appeared in XU 45 after UX 420 instead of this issue.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #45 (June 2003)

“Hero” (Chuck Austen/Pop Mhan/Derek Fridolfs/Randy Gentile/J. Brown & SotoColor)

Featured Characters: Alpha Flight: Earthmover, Guardian (J. Hudson), Claire Hudson (Mac and Heather’s daughter, first on-panel appearance), Heather Hudson, Puck, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird; Archangel, Phoenix (Grey-Summers), Phoenix Force (BTS), Wolverine
Other Characters: Dr. Jiroult (insane scientist, dies), Mac’s parents (first appearances?), teacher, schoolchildren, scientists, Canadian government officials

In Brief: Dr. Jiroult, a former Dept. H scientist obsessed with Heather Hudson, savagely injures Guardian with a weapon of his design, intending to take Heather for himself. Shaman senses Guardian’s peril and the rest of the Alphans rush to his aid. As Jiroult confronts a very pregnant Heather, the Alphans patch up the wounded Guardian as best they can, but he’s still in bad shape. Using a prototype battlesuit, Guardian races with the Alphans to Heather’s aid and stops Jiroult by overloading the suit and killing him, just as Heather gives birth to their daughter. Guardian seems to succumb to his injuries but he wakes in the hospital, saved by Archangel’s healing abilities.

Flashback (1:1-1:4): James Hudson is born and from the time he’s in diapers displays a high level intelligence, winning accolades all the way into adulthood.

Flashback (1:5): James is present at the groundbreaking for the first Alpha Flight facility.

Flashback (2:1): James waves to Heather in a laboratory. (Department H?)

Flashback (2:2): Engineers help James put the first Vindicator suit together. PFB from AF 3/2 (5:5).

Flashback (2:3): Vindicator leads the original Alpha Flight roster into battle.

Flashback (2:4-2:5): James and a pregnant Heather snuggle on the couch, probably immediately before the main story.

Analysis: The first four panels of flashback precede all of Mac’s appearances to date. The groundbreaking scene in 1:5 I’m finding tricky to place; I’m aiming somewhere just prior to Mac beginning to recruit for the actual Alpha Flight team (rather than the Flight as seen in AF SPECIAL, due to the sign at the groundbreaking saying “Future Home of Alpha Flight”), beginning with his recruitment of Snowbird and Shaman in AF 8/2. The FB in 2:2 where he’s waving to Heather I’m thinking follows that; she’s in a lab coat here which would indicate she’s an active part of the assembling of Alpha Flight rather than a secretary at Am-Can. The beauty shot of Alpha Flight in 2:3 is just them against a blank background rushing towards the camera; leaning towards just calling this a symbolic shot.

As far as the main story goes, this has to be slotted in between UX 420 (when Warren learned of his healing ability) and UX 421 (since Heather’s no longer sporting a baby bump and is back in action as Vindicator).

X-MEN UNLIMITED #46 (June 2003)

Story #1: “Weapon of Choice” (Ian Edgington/Simon Bisley/Simon Bisley/Randy Gentile/Jose Villarrubia)

Featured Character: Wolverine
Other Characters: Mutant pit fighters (including Nome, an old friend of Logan’s), bar patrons, bartender, bar owners/fight promoters

In Brief: Wolverine shuts down a mutant fight club as a favor to his old buddy Nome.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

Story #2: “Upon Reflection” (Bruce Jones/Shin “Jason” Nagasawa/Shin “Jason” Nagasawa/Randy Gentile/colorist uncredited)

Featured Character: Nick Fury (BTS), Wolverine
Other Characters: Radio announcer (VO), scientist (in videotaped FBs), clawed monster

In Brief: At Nick Fury’s “request,” Logan checks out a research facility and finds an energy-absorbing monster that looks like a large blue version of him. He kills the thing after a protracted battle and leaves.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #47 (July 2003)

Story #1: “Bloody ’Ell” (Adam Warren/Rick Mays/Rick Mays/Randy Gentile/Guru eFX)

Featured Characters: Psylocke, Wolverine
Other Characters: Cyborgs (one destroyed)

In Brief: Wolverine (in VO) remembers a night he spent with Psylocke at a bar.

Flashback (essentially the entire story): Over beers, Psylocke and Wolverine trade war stories and insults.

Flashback-within-flashback: Psylocke battles it out with a cyborg afetr blowing up a warehouse on one of her covert missions.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

Story #2: “Strange Harvest (John Layman/Dan Norton/Aaron Sowd/Randy Gentile/Chris Sotomayor)

Featured Character: Cyclops (Summers)
Other Characters: Criminal optical surgeon, armed kidnappers disguised as customers and employees at a grocery store

In Brief: Cyclops is the captive of an optical surgeon whose unknown employer wants Scott’s eyes forcibly transplanted. Cyclops spooks the surgeon with being able to trace his medical equipment and what the X-Men could potentially do to him if he opted to kill him to prevent him from acting as a witness. The surgeon lets him go and Scott agrees to his request to rough him up a bit by zapping him.

Flashback: PFB: Cyclops is abducted by armored kidnappers while on a grocery run.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets, but listed in error as XU 47 (as in the first story instead of the second), and without the PFB.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #48 (July 2003)

Story #1: No title (Bruce Jones/Richard Isanove [painted art]/Randy Gentile & Virtual Calligraphy)

Featured Characters: Ka-Zar (BTS, in New York), Shanna, Wolverine
Other Characters: Dr. James MacKenzie (scientist), Sheba (Shanna’s dire wolf)

In Brief: Logan and Shanna investigate a disease ravaging the Savage Land.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets apart from Ka-Zar’s BTS appearance.

Story #2: “Control” (Chuck Austen/ChrisCross/Mark Morales/Randy Gentile & Virtual Calligraphy/Chris Sotomayor)

Featured Characters: Dum Dum Dugan, Nick Fury, Mystique
Other Characters: Juan Martinez Cortez (leader’s second in command, dies), SHIELD agents, Mideastern nation’s leader (dies), military (some die), political leaders, and citizens

In Brief: Conscripted by Nick Fury, Mystique seduces, kills, and impersonates the leader of an unnamed Mideastern country, then, as him, topples his own empire by incriminating the leader’s allies in a televised speech. After completing her mission, she cuts out a suicide device Fury implanted inside her.

Flashback: Nick Fury “hires” Mystique to topple the leader’s regime.

Analysis: Some of the other agents pictured COULD be Jimmy Woo, Gabe Jones, and Clay Quartermain by the looks of them, but they aren’t specifically ID’d and I don’t want to jump to conclusions. This one’s already in brackets for Mystique; just have to extrapolate for Fury and Dugan.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #49 (Aug. 2003)

(No title) (Bill Willingham/Kelsey Shannon/Randy Gentile/Guru eFX & Kelsey Shannon)

Featured Characters: Cyclops (Summers), Iceman, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Phoenix (Grey-Summers), Phoenix Force (BTS), Sammy Pare
Other Characters: Clara Trinidad (TV news reporter), Sally White (girl trapped in cave-in), Billy White (Sally’s brother, BTS), rescue workers, Xavier Institute students, subterranean people (including the High Tharen [leader], Stennis [guard], Tharen’s daughter), Sally’s parents

In Brief: Nightcrawler teleports into a New Mexican cavern to rescue a trapped girl, only to find he has to rescue her from a race of subterraneans. The next day, he talks to Sammy Pare about laughing in the face of adversity.

Flashback: During the main story,: Clara Trinidad’s taped interview with Nightcrawler.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets save for Jean and the Phoenix Force. Also, Jubilee’s visible in the Xavier living room blowing a gum bubble on page 1 but listed as BTS.

X-MEN UNLIMITED #50 (Sept. 2003)

“The Swordsmith” (Kengo Kaji & Kazuo Koike/Paul Smith/Paul Smith/Randy Gentile & Virtual Calligraphy/Brad Anderson)

Feature Character: Wolverine
Other Characters: Renge (swordsmith’s daughter), Azuma (evil samurai, onetime apprentice to Renge’s father) and his henchmen

In Brief: Wolverine intercedes in a long struggle between the daughter of a swordsmith ad her father’s evil apprentice over a sword that carries the souls of all those it has slain. After saving the girl, Wolverine chucks the sword into a smelter.

Flashback: Renge tells her backstory and how her father was betrayed and murdered by Azuma.

Analysis: Already in the MCP in brackets.

Re: XU 40/2:
Chris McCarver wrote:The X-Men Index places this story immediately following UX 428 for Mystique.
Speaking of the X-Men Index, it also says that Mystique was last in SABRE 4-FB before UX 428. We currently don’t have any flashbacks listed for SABRE 4.

In SABRE 4-FB, Mystique is talking with her young son Graydon Creed. Nightcrawler is born in UX 428. Graydon is older than Nightcrawler, so SABRE 4-FB has to happen before UX 428 like the Index says. That means, despite appearances, XU 40/2 is not the first time Sabretooth and Mystique meet. Maybe Sabretooth didn’t know Graydon’s mom was Mystique?

As far as Sabretooth’s placement for this story goes, XO:SABRE shows Sabretooth (and Wolverine) joining Team X (the one with Maverick and Wraith) in 1961. Team X is tied to the real world ‘60s and early ‘70s (not subject to the sliding timescale). Nightcrawler was roughly what, 20 years old in his first appearance? That means UX 428 happens somewhere between 10-15 years before Fantastic Four #1 (and therefore, so does this story, since Mystique is still in the woods here following that). So sometime after Team X breaks up.

Here’s Sabretooth’s chronology in this area:

SABRETOOTH/VICTOR CREED

X 6 (14)-FB
XO:SABRE (26 - 30)
WX2 27-FB
S&M 1-FB
S&M 2-FB
S&M 3-FB
L:SS

Team X breaks up in X 6 (14)-FB (the real real-world early ‘70s). “Ten years, give or take” after that is XO:SABRE (26 - 30) (at the moment, roughly the early ‘80s, sliding timescale affected, so maybe the mid-‘80s). Uh oh. WX2 27-FB happens in 1968. In Vietnam. That needs to be moved. S&M 1-3-FBs is “several years ago.” L:SS is shortly before Wolverine is abducted by the Weapon X program, which is shortly(-ish) before Fantastic Four #1.

I’d say this should go after XO:SABRE (26 - 30), because otherwise Nightcrawler is the wrong age.

CREED, GRAYDON
*SABRE 4-FB
X 33-FB

MYSTIQUE/RAVEN DARKHOLME/"RAVEN WAGNER"/"MALLORY BRICKMAN"/"B. BYRON BIGGS"/"RONNIE LAKE"/"DALE FYFE"

*SABRE 4-FB

Thanks, Chris!

edited to add SABRE 3-FB movement, thanks to Michael pointing it out. :)

The dialogue in SABRE 3 makes it clear that Sabretooth never realized Leni Zauber was Mystique until the Sabretooth limited series.

This happens shortly before SM&W 1-4 for Wolverine, so it does for Fury as well.

Chris McCarver wrote:Analysis: Some of the other agents pictured COULD be Jimmy Woo, Gabe Jones, and Clay Quartermain by the looks of them, but they aren’t specifically ID’d and I don’t want to jump to conclusions. This one’s already in brackets for Mystique; just have to extrapolate for Fury and Dugan.
I agree. They COULD be, but we don’t know for sure.

The X-Men Index and Paul’s Calendar don’t agree on the placement of this story. Paul has XU 48/2 before UX 401; the Index has it after UX 434. So, placing this to match Mystique’s Index placement:

DUGAN, TIMOTHY ALOYISIOUS CADWALLADER "DUM DUM"

CA4 11
*XU 48/2-FB
*XU 48/2
IDDISC 5

FURY, COL. NICHOLAS "NICK" JOSEPH

IM3 69
*XU 46/2-BTS
*XU 48/2-FB
*XU 48/2
SM&W 1-FB

Thanks! :)

Heh, I'd realized I'd left out Fury's BTS appearance in XU 46/2, and was *just now* going through the Calendar to find a placement. Thanks! :)
