Iron Man in AWC 50-52 and IM 248

Post by Michael »

Iron Man's appearance in AWC 50-52 is currently placed after IM 248. That's an odd choice. Tony says in AWC 51 that he decided to return to the Avengers because he has to spend more time in his armor, while IM 248 ends with Tony being told he'll be able to walk again without the armor.
Plus, Namor's appearance in AWC 50 takes place before his appearance in IM@ 10. So we're basically creating a gap in AWC 50 where IM @10, IM 246- 248 and H2 361 have to take place. Is there a reason for this?

Another weird thing- AWC 56/2 features Tony telling Steve for the first time that he thinks Namor is dead as a result of IM@ 10. We have IM 246-248, H2 361 and AWC 50-52 placed in between those issues. That's a lot of issues to put in between- basically you have to assume Tony decided to take his time letting Steve know that one of his oldest friends is dead.

Finally getting around to this…

Not only all of that, but at the end of AWC 52, Ghaur tells Llyra that it's time to start their plot. This is a lead-in to Atlantis Attacks, and yet we currently have AWC 52 placed in the middle of Atlantis Attacks, even for these guys.

IM@ 10 has to happen between IM 245-246, thanks to a thought balloon in IM@ 10. IM 246 picks up from there, which continues into IM 247. H2 361 happens "days" after IM 247. IM 248 has to happen after H2 361, because of Tony's mobility. In A@ 18, everyone knows Mr. Fixit is the Hulk. So yeah, there has to be a bit of time during the Atlantis Attacks crossover (from IM@ 10 to A@ 18) for at least these comics to happen.

Also, we're missing the third story in AWC 56, the one where John Byrne tells us (at Howard Mackie's insistence) that Tigra didn't really appear in the Atlantis Attacks crossover.

How's this look?

I'm not sure I'm on board with that. I don't have the book in front of me, but is that really John Byrne, the character? To me, this is more like a visual representation of an editor's reply on the letter page.
I can't promise you that things will improve, if we make changes;
I can promise you that they won't improve, if we don't.

In the She-Hulk book when Byrne was working on it, he (the character) knew he was a comic book writer and artist (this is back when She-Hulk would regularly break the fourth wall). I don't see this being any different than that. The John Byrne character, knowing what he does for a living, is breaking the fourth wall to let us (the readers) know that wasn't really Tigra (in Atlantis Attacks).

-edit-

Wait. Flipping through the Sensational She-Hulk comics, I guess that was only on the covers where he knew things were fictional. Huh.

But She-Hulk still did it! *doh* :outtahere:

AWC 52 should take place in between SS@ 2 and IM@ 10, not before SS @ 2, since SS@ 2 features Ghaur getting restored to mortal form by the Silver Surfer (thanks, Norrin) , freeing Llyra from imprisonment and proposing the scheme to her.

Good point! I've fixed the above suggestion.

Any thoughts on John Byrne? :)

Do you also feel like including all of Al Milgrom's "Editori-Al" cartoons from the inside covers of Marvel Fanfare issues? ;) IMO, the Byrne piece is just about as "canon" as those -- it's an editor's note presented in cartoon form instead of text.
