ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #47 (December, 2003)

FLASHBACK:
Sam Bullit releases a campaign ad.
SYNOPSIS:
Spider-Man beats up Kingpin’s enforcers. Kingpin isn’t happy to hear about it. At the Daily Bugle, Peter hears about Sam Bullit who’s running for District Attorney and his campaign is based on Spider-Man being a nuisance. He complains to Mary Jane about it. Later, Peter learns the Kingpin is back in town and beat his murder conviction. When he says the Bugle should be covering that story, Jonah fires him.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #48 (December, 2003)

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #50 (February, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:

They’re interrupted when Mary Jane’s dad arrives, who read Mary Jane’s diary. He says Peter is dangerous and May kicks him out. Later, Peter sees Black Cat on the news.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #51 (February, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Kingpin’s lawyer makes it clear the Kingpin is upset that the tablet piece is missing. The next day at school, Mary Jane tells Peter her dad is planning to put her into a public school. Elektra is hired to go after Spider-Man, since he was seen with Black Cat on the news. Peter comes across an ad at the Bugle from Black Cat, and meets her that night. Black Cat thinks it’s a date. Suddenly, Elektra attacks.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #52 (March, 2004)

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #53 (April, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Peter finds Mary Jane and talks her into going back home. Later, Peter researches Black Cat at the Daily Bugle and figures out her real name. Meanwhile, Kingpin beats up Black Cat, demanding to know where the tablet is. Spider-Man shows up and saves her, but Elektra apparently kills her. Later, Kingpin visits his comatose wife.

NOTE:
Mary Jane’s dad is called Greg here, and Gary on the ULTSM 51 recap page, and Craig in ULTSM 50. I’ll go with in-story dialogue, so Gary's out. May calls him Craig and his wife calls him Greg. I guess his wife would know better than Aunt May, so Greg it is!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #54 (May, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:

Dr. Octopus attacks the movie set and Spider-Man jumps in to fight him.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #56 (June, 2004)

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #58 (July, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Spider-Man beats up Dr. Octopus and finds out the plane landed in a different country. He hops on another plane and leaves. He beats Aunt May home, but when he gets in Gwen Stacy meets him with a gun, accusing him of killing her dad. Oops!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #59 (July, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Peter explains that he’s Spider-Man, but he didn’t kill Gwen’s dad; he was with her the whole day when he died, he couldn’t have. Gwen freaks out and leaves. May comes home. Mary Jane admits she might have tipped Gwen off about Peter being Spider-Man. Gwen returns, and now that she’s calmed down, realizes Spider-Man didn’t kill her dad, and apologizes for freaking out. Meanwhile, Nick Fury destroys Dr. Octopus’ arms. Four months later, the Spider-Man movie is released and Kong is the hero of the school.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #60 (August, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Curt Conners wakes up from a nightmare and calls his ex-wife, then thinks about what Jim Rhodes told him about the grant he got from Stark International. Meanwhile, Spider-Man fights Gladiator at the museum. Spider-Man wins but is injured, then flees when Jeanne De Wolfe tries to arrest him. Spider-Man goes to ESU and asks Dr. Conners to patch him up. When Spider-Man leaves, Conners examines Spider-Man’s blood.

NOTE:
Marsh Conners is called “Doris” and Billy Conners is called “Timmy” here, despite being named already in ULTM/TU 10.

Also, Carnage appears on the cover but doesn’t show up anywhere inside. Odd.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #61 (August, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Peter stay home from school because he’s fighting an infection from his injury. Curt Conners calls and wants to meet; he found something in Peter’s blood and wants to run experiments. Peter agrees. Two months later, Spider-Man breaks up a fight between Punisher and Boomerang, gets hurt and visits Conners again. When Spider-Man leaves, Conners checks on Peter’s blood experiment, which is now in a child-like form.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #62 (September, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
Ben Reilly (Conners’ lab assistant) discovers the experiment is missing, then hears a security guard was killed. Gwen Stacy runs into Mary Jane at the mall and they chat. Later, Carnage kills some people in an alley, sucks out their life energy (or something) and gets bigger. Remembering memories from Peter, Carnage goes to the Parker house and kills Gwen Stacy. Boing!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #63 (October, 2004)

SYNOPSIS:
May Parker comes home and finds Gwen’s corpse. She calls Peter at the Bugle and tells him the news. Everyone tries to deal with it. Later that night, Conners shows up and explains he combined Peter’s blood with the Venom project and the result (Carnage) came to life. Suddenly, they’re attacked by Carnage.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #64 (October, 2004)

FLASHBACK:
Peter lures Carnage to a factory and incinerates Carnage (between pages 11-12 of 24).
SYNOPSIS:
Peter fights Carnage and Carnage runs off. Peter chases it, but Carnage kills two cops. Later, Peter blames Conners for Gwen’s death, so Conners turns himself into the police. Later, Peter tells Mary Jane that he killed the creature that killed Gwen, and that he’s quitting being Spider-Man. ESU closes Conners’ lab, but his lab assistant Ben Reilly takes a sample with him. Gasp!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #65 (November, 2004)

FLASHBACK:
As Peter cleans out Gwen’s locker, Flash acts like an asshole and gets them all a detention.

In detention, Mary Jane figures out that Flash liked Gwen; that’s why he’s been trying to talk to Peter alone. Later, Peter stops a mugging.

NOTE:
Flash’s first name is revealed as Fred here. Where the hell did Harlan come from?

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #66 (December, 2004)

Published the same month as ULTFF 13. They still aren’t super heroes here yet, which is good, because that doesn’t happen until ULTFF 21.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #69 (January, 2005)

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #72 (April, 2005)

FLASHBACK:

SYNOPSIS:
Spider-Man stops Killer Shrike from stealing Adamantium. When he shows up at school he’s surprised to see Harry Osborn is back. Peter tells Mary Jane to stay away from Harry; when she questions him he yells at her. Peter goes home to help Aunt May pack up (they’re moving a few blocks away), Harry shows up, says he remembers that Peter is Spider-Man, and that he’s pissed Peter is dating his girlfriend Mary Jane.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #73 (May, 2005)

FLASHBACK:
Nick Fury tells Harry Osborn it’s safe to let him back into society. His father is considered legally dead (even though he’s not actually dead), so Harry has inherited the family fortune. Harry Watches Peter and Mary Jane talk to Johnny Storm (repeats ULTSM 69). Harry goes over his financials and is contacted by Mr. Shaw, who tells Harry that his dad’s had him in hypnotherapy since he was eleven. Shaw says a magic word and Harry remembers everything, then shows Harry a secret bunker.
SYNOPSIS:
Harry recalls how he got to this point.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #74 (May, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Harry plays mind games with Peter. Later, Peter confronts Mary Jane over her dating Harry. She admits it, but doesn’t know why she never told Peter about it. Angry, Spider-Man takes his frustration out on a mugger, but throws the guy through a car. Spider-Man takes him to a hospital and wants to be arrested, but De Wolfe refuses to arrest him. Meanwhile, Harry plays mind games with Mary Jane. Peter goes to his new home and is taunted by Harry on the phone.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #75 (June, 2005)

FLASHBACK:
Harry freaks out in the bunker, so Shaw says the magic word again and takes Harry home. There, Shaw tells Harry to find out where Osborn is being kept from Spider-Man.
SYNOPSIS:
Peter talks with Mary Jane and Peter figures out that Harry has been screwing with them both. He goes to Harry’s place and finds out that Harry is hallucinating. Harry remembers that he was present when Green Goblin got his powers, and Spider-Man watches Harry catch on fire.

NOTE:
Mr. Shaw was a hallucination and not really there the last few issues.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #76 (June, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Harry turns into the Hobgoblin and Spider-Man fights him. Meanwhile, the teacher notices Peter and Mary Jane are missing from class. Mary Jane finds Spider-Man fighting the mindless Hobgoblin. Spider-Man swings her away, yells at her for not listening to him and goes back to fighting Hobgoblin. Hobgoblin begs Spider-Man to kill him.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #77 (July, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Spider-Man offers to help Hobgoblin, but he attacks Spider-Man and kills some police officers. Nick Fury hears of the fight and assembles a SHIELD Hulkbuster unit to stop Hobgoblin. When Hobgoblin is subdued, Spider-Man punches Nick Fury for not keeping Harry safe. Later, Spider-Man tells Mary Jane he can’t keep her safe because he doesn’t listen to him, and breaks up with her.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #78 (August, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Mary Jane still feels bad about Peter dumping her, so Liz takes her to the mall. There, Mary Jane’s friends introduce her to Mark Raxton, and they go to one of his band’s shows. Raxton gives Mary Jane a ride home and they kiss, but Mary Jane realizes that she still loves Peter.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #79 (September, 2005)

Federal charges are finally filed against Kingpin.
SYNOPSIS:
Silvermane suggests that he and Hammerhead work together to take over Kingpin’s crime empire. Hammerhead kills Silvermane. Peter feels bad about dumping Mary Jane so he goes out as Spider-Man. Kingpin learns Silvermane is dead. Hammerhead starts to forcefully take over Kingpin’s operations and sets one of Kingpin’s buildings on fire. Spider-Man notices and swings by, but he’s attacked by Moon Knight.

NOTE:
Hammerhead calls the Enforcers “Fancy Dan Crenshaw, Montana Stern and Ox” despite them being named something else by Jameson back in ULTSM 49.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #80 (October, 2005)

SYNOPSIS:
Elektra watches Spider-Man fight Moon Knight. When the police arrive Spider-Man leaves. At the Daily Bugle, Peter learns the burned building was Kingpin’s, so he swings by Fisk Tower and chats with the guy. Kingpin tells Spider-Man about Hammerhead and Spider-Man doesn’t want to take care of Kingpin’s rivals.

NOTE:
Silvermane is called “Silvio Manfredi” here, despite being named “Allan Silvermane” back in ULTXM 14.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #81 (October, 2005)

Spider-Man talks to Jeanne De Wolfe about the Kingpin, and she says Spider-Man should take care of Hammerhead. De Wolfe gets a call and tells Spider-Man about a fight in Chinatown. Spider-Man punches Hammerhead, stopping him from killing Shang-Chi, but he thinks he broke his hand on Hammerhead’s head. Hammerhead prepares to kill Spider-Man, but he’s interrupted by Black Cat.

Peter leaves. Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and Iron Fist beat up some criminals and learn where Hammerhead is. Spider-Man spies on Hammerhead and is interrupted by Black Cat. They hear a ruckus and jump into Hammerhead’s hideout, where they find Elektra, Shang-Chi, Iron Fist and the Enforcers already in a fight.

NOTE:
Also published this month was ULTSM@ 1, where Spider-Man starts dating Shadowcat. Spider-Man thinks to himself that he’s single in ULTSM 82, so ULTSM@ 1 has to happen after that, and likely after this story is over.

Elektra stabs Moon Knight in the chest. Hammerhead takes off Moon Knight’s mask and takes a picture of his face. Elektra tosses Spider-Man out a window.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #85 (January, 2006)

Black Cat fights Elektra until Moon Knight stabs Elektra in the head. Black Cat frees Iron Fist and Shang-Chi, then later meets with Spider-Man. She tries to kiss him, but when she finds out he’s a teenager she vomits and runs away. De Wolfe meets with Kingpin and gives him an update. Peter comes home and Aunt May tells him if he skips school again she’s kicking him out of the house.
