Watching a documentary on this. Heartbreaking. This was a rehearsal of D-Day that turned into a disaster and kept secret for years. Due to miscommunication troops were actually bombed by their allies when they reached the beach of Slapton Sands. Boats were torpedoed by German warships. 639 Americans officially dead.
It definitely can stand in for D-Day's early landing scenes. Not too keen on involving Captain America and the Howling Commandos on such a disaster but I have one appearance too many for them on D-Day.
