Groot (GOTG) vs Groot (TTA 13)

We currently have all appearances of Groot listed under the same character, but there are three separate and identifiable Groots.
The first is the Groot that appeared in Tales to Astonish 13, calling himself Groot, Monarch of Planet X. This same Groot also appeared in Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prowl and in Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos.
A note in the entry for Punisher 11 (Jan 2010) in the Punisher: Official Index to the Marvel Universe tells us that “the treelike alien Groot from Planet X returned to space, as seen in Annihilation Conquest: Starlord; however, his species reproduce identical offspring via budding, and are all called Groot. The one here was presumably spawned before the ‘main’ Groot left Earth following NFHC #6.”
This is not strictly the case. The GOTG Groot first appears in Annihilation Conquest: Starlord 1, calling himself King Groot, but in Annihilators 1/2, Rocket Raccoon finds this Groot imprisoned on Planet X for having been impersonating King Groot, Groot XXCVII, Royal Loftiness of Planet X, Custodian of the Branch Worlds and Ruler of All He Shades. In Groot 6, the GOTG Groot tells Jean Grey how he was imprisoned by King Groot, and we see a flashback to King Groot smashing a truck during TTA 13.
Therefore, King Groot must have returned to Planet X at some point after Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos, but not before first spawning a duplicate, as mentioned in the entry for Punisher 11 (Jan 2010), but he doesn’t then appear in Annihilation Conquest: Starlord, but in Annihilators 1/2.
The King Groot Duplicate that was spawned before King Groot returned to Planet X appears in P8 11, UX3 33, and MU2 2, as well as Marvel Swimsuit Special 2, which is not listed in the MCP, nor is it listed in the FAQ’s list of Non-Canon publications.
The new Groot series (GROOT2) takes place when GOTG Groot is a young sapling, and suggests that not all Flora Colossi are named Groot, and that it may be a family name.
