Hulk Family: Green Genes #1/1, #1/2 and #1/4

Post by Somebody »

There are five stories in the one-shot.

1/3 is a story about the "Daughter of Hulk", conceived as a result of (footnoted) Hulk: Raging Thunder. I don't have a clue about Thundra's world, I didn't read that story, and it seems to be alternate-of-an-alternate-future stuff anyway, so I'm not going to do that.

1/5, meanwhile, is just a reprint of Savage She-Hulk #1.
_______________

1/1
"Your Lucky Day"
Writer: Fred van Lente
Penciller: Scott Clark

Cast:
SHE-HULK/JENNIFER WALTERS
HULK/DR. ROBERT BRUCE BANNER/"JOE FIXIT"
BERENGETTI, MICHAEL
DISCORDIA
TANTRUM II
"Brett" (ex-uni-mate of She-Hulk)
Couple of CCTV observers with Berengetti

Story:

p1

A young mutant couple, "Discordia" & "Tantrum", steal a car, having wrecked a diner somewhere in Nevada and killed everyone inside.

pg1:5:2-1:5:4 + pg2-3

She-Hulk's attending a Law School Reunion at the Colosseum [Berengetti's casino], and flashes back to a couple of moments from her origin, when she notices an oversized guy in a suit walk past the door...

pg4

The Grey Hulk (as Joe Fixit) hopes and prays that She-Hulk didn't see him, thinking back to how he "died" in the Leader's explosion in H2 345, how he has a good life "away from [Banner]", and how "Walters could ruin everything" as she runs up to him and asks for "Doc".

pg5-6

Discordia & Tantrum's stolen car runs out of petrol just outside the Colosseum, and they immediately head in and start wrecking the place on threat.

pg7:1-7:2

Hulk protests that she has him mixed up with someone else, when Berengetti calls...

pg7:3
[CCTV room]

...telling him about the incident...

pg7:4-7:5

...and he gladly rushes off to see about to it. She-Hulk refuses to leave him be.

pg8:1-13:2

In the foyer, Hulk and She-Hulk rush in and start fighting Tantrum and Discordia respectively. Tantrum zaps Hulk, trying to get more emotion to power up, and Hulk flashes back to his origin and loses it, seeing Tantrum as Banner and beating the hell out of him

pg13:3-13:5

She-Hulk finishes Discordia without any trouble.

pg14-16

Hulk is now completely unhinged, and beats Tantrum mercilessly. As he's about to deliver a killing blow, however, She-Hulk catches his arm, and he calms down suddenly. She wonders how she mistook him for her cousin - "Not even the Hulk could be so cruel."

A guy in a gladiator costume prepositions She-Hulk, and she happily goes off with him, while "Mr Fixit's" just relieved that she was convinced he wasn't the Hulk in the end.

Notes:
I'm in two minds about where to place this for Hulk:
*On pg 4, he "addresses" Banner in his internal narration. Until H2 347, he thinks Banner is gone for good thanks to the Jarella's Worlders - but even between that and Banner's actual re-emergence at the end of H2 352 (the end of a continuous sequence beginning in the WOSM 44/H2 349 crossover), he never "talks" at Banner internally, he's always worried about his emergence, and that doesn't seem to be a concern here since his only worry is anyone finding out he's the Hulk.
*His rant when Tantrum's power makes him think of Tantrum as Banner, combined with his fear of anyone finding out that he's the Hulk, makes it absolutely clear that this is before Banner's re-emergence, however, and could be taken as evidence either way on whether to place between H2 352-FB and H2 347 or between H2 348 and WOSM 44. While it's daytime, he's never exposed to sunlight, so that never becomes a clue.

On balance, I'm leaning towards placement before H2 352-FB and H2 347, so that's what I've entered below, but it really could go either way.

She-Hulk, on the other hand, needs to be placed between A 294 and 295. I've placed it in the middle of the two cameos already inserted between those issues.

In the FBs to She-Hulk's origin, both hers and Banner's hairstyles are inaccurate (his too short, hers far too long), and Banner's wearing glasses where he wasn't originally. (2:1) is an alternate angle of the original shot, where you could only see Jen. This version shows Banner too, and I've included it in his listing only as a result.

There's no new info in the FB to Hulk's origin.

Berengetti is currently misspelt in the listings as "Berenghetti" (both the original run of PAD's Hulk and this issue spell it without an "h").

"Skaar: Son of Hulk - School for Savages"

Cast:
SKAAR
OLD SAM
Skaar's bug pets, unnamed.

Story:
Old Sam helps Skaar and tries to make him wear trousers, shortly after Skaar was scarred and poisoned by the shadow priests in SKAAR:SWOS 1 (21-26)-FB. Skaar knocks him out and dumps him in the path of an army of cannibals, then knocks him out again and saves him. When he wakes up again, they're in Skaar's cave, and Skaar's wearing a loincloth.

"Scorpion: Emerald Highway"
Writer: Fred van Lente
Penciller: Diedrich O'Clark

Cast:
SCORPION/CARMILLA BLACK/THASANEE RAPPACCINI [also in FB, between H3 109 (21:4) and (21:5)]
CHO, AMADEUS [FB only, between H3 109 (21:4) and (21:5)]
HULK/DR. ROBERT BRUCE BANNER/"JOE FIXIT"-OP
Random SHIELD agents

Story:

pg5:4-6:1-FB
During IH 109 (footnoted as such) Amadeus Cho teases Scorpion, saying he'd hacked all the Hulk's files, and they say that she's his daughter.

pg1:1-5:4, 6:2-7:4
"SHIELD prisoner transport. Right after World War Hulk"

Scorpion attacks a SHIELD convoy, which she believes is taking the Hulk to the military base where he's going to be held. Knocking out all the SHIELD agents, she has a "chat" with his stasis capsule saying she has to know, and apparently escapes with the capsule before a satellite destroys the truck.

pg8:1 + 8:2:1 + 8:3:1 + 8:4:1 + 8:5:1
"Next morning"

Two SHIELD agents go over the truck's remains, noting that all the personnel are "stable in the Helicarrier Infirmary", and that Scorpion "spent all her energy attacking one of our four decoys".

pg8:2

A shot of the Hulk's stasis capsule arriving at Mojave Base.

pg8:3-8:5

Scorpion has the capsule open, and sees there's only a dummy head floating inside. She grabs her hair and cries from frustration.

Notes:

The original Scorpion arc put ten years between Monica Rappacini leaving university (in Modena!) and conceiving her. That seems to have been forgotten thanks to PAD's retcon of a one-night stand at uni between Banner & her.
