Namor early chronology

This is a review of Namor's early chronology in order to place the flashback in Namor: King in Black and the story in Marvel 3.

In Marvel 3, taking place in "summer 1939," "a few months before the war," Namor is a suave prince at ease with formal balls and human society. In the narration he states "I was responding to an invitation forwarded to me by naval intelligence." By M/MC 3 WWII has started as Nazis attack British ships. In M/C 1 & M/MC 2 he's still unfamiliar with human society and certainly would not get any invitation through naval intelligence. This part of the story could be embellishment to impress the intelligence-savvy Captain America. Or just a mistranslation of sea intelligence referring to Tha-Korr's spies mentioned in SUBC70A /2.

There are a few minor glitches in his chrono, in particular regarding his arrival & attack on NY, which is the period where I originally hoped to find a convenient break.

In the space of a few issues Namor goes from teenager with Dorma to adult starting an affair with mature policewoman Betty Dean, 10 years his senior, which would allow us to spread his early appearances over several months.

The summer 1939 date needs thoughtful consideration as it cannot mean June-Sep 1939 per Namor's chrono. To explain the "months before the war" line, the story would take place during the Phoney War (Sept 3, 1939 - May 10, 1940) and I've included 1940 issues (war does not start in the south Pacific before Dec 1941). Since the story takes place in the South Pacific, summer actually starts there on December 1, 1939. (Because the temperature lag is shorter, most countries in the oceanic temperate southern hemisphere use the meteorological definition with summer starting on 1 December and ending on the last day of February.)

The villain's plan to study Namor's body in Marvel 3 is similar to the nazi project of studying Atlantean physiology in Marvels Project 1.

SUBC70A /2 also occurs in 1939 in the South Pacific. His grandfather's spies lead Namor to a nazi island base.

In Sub-Mariner Comics 32, right after the Emperor changed his mind from "turning them out to live with Namor's father's people" (i.e. banishing them for life from Atlantis) to merely "exiling them until Namor is ten," Fen thinks, "Precious little one, you have secured your mother's freedom." So this exile equates freedom for Fen, freedom for adventure, clear evidence that any adventures she has in DEF4 must occur before returning to court from exile. Having an adventure while at court is what got her the exile in the first place and she would not repeat the offence.

In SUBC70A /2 1939, in South Pacific Namor, alerted by his gradfather's spies, investigates a Nazi base. MARVEL 3/2-FB occurs in Summer 1939 in the South Pacific, this is December in the southern hemisphere.
