Re: SECRET WARS to CIVIL WAR II

Post by wolverine7230 »

The latest version, the only notable change being the addition of the Guardians issues.

I think there's a bit of an issue with the current placement of Doctor Strange after Civil War II has already started, as that's when he gets his axe, but he also appears in various other comics with this axe before this point, notably All-New Wolverine 4, which is numerically well before the Civil War II crossovers in that series. Is there any way issue 3 can be moved earlier in the list?

Once we've got a first draft of the order I intend to do a full read-through of it in order to see if any movements need to be made.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!

#1-6 happen sometime after Amadeus Cho has become the Hulk and started collecting monsters.

There's a break of "days" between 6, during which the Terrigen cloud is in Manhattan, and 7 (although you could probably find some places for a few other breaks). In 7-12, Ms. Marvel is one of the Avengers (and gives Lunella an Avengers communicator). A month seems to pass between pages 5 and 6 of #12: it's a full moon again on pg. 6, so Lunella and Devil change places.

At least a couple of days pass between pages 17 and 18 of #12 (it's now a waning moon). The end of #12 is fairly directly followed by #13-18... by which point we're definitely post-Civil War II: Ironheart is not only around, she's recognized by that name. (Also, the Thing is on Earth, and Dr. Strange has his blue cloak and his axe.) It's Halloween, so Lunella has been in fourth grade for a couple of months... unless she goes to a school on an unusual schedule, which I suppose is possible.

Another Lunella appearance that has to fit in here is Extraordinary X-Men Annual #1/2, in which Lunella has just met Forge for the first time; that ALSO takes place during a waning moon, and I'm guessing it's immediately before the 12 (18-20)-18 sequence, in which Forge introduces her to the rest of the X-Men "a few nights later."

Dr Strange 1-3 could probably be placed as early as it needs to be to fit all appearances of the Axe of Angarruumus. Just watch the placement with regards to Scarlet Witch, who travels around the world a lot in her own series, and is sometimes away for several months at a time, for instance on the Witch's Road. So as long as Wanda can actually be in Manhattan, it shouldn't be a problem..

Having said that, in my own listing, i currently already have All-New Wolverine 1-6 after Dr Strange 1-3. I have DS 1-3 during the lead-in to Assault, after Avengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill 1 (17-21) [Day 19], along with a few other items that seem to go in the summer between Day 19 and Day 36 of Assault, and i have UX 11-15, UX Ann 1/1, then ANW 1-6 after Assault. After that, i have Ant-Man 12-13, then Steve Rogers 1-4..

Invincible Iron Man has to start after Contest of Champions. In CoC it's directly mentioned that his armour doesn't have upgrades installed yet. Tony installs them at the beginning of the IIM.

Hi Sataniel, it does seem that way at first glance, but it also seems to work better this way in the long run. You have to assume Tony was tinkering for a while with his armor, and may have had more that one prototype. We thrashed this out on the first page of this thread..

Bear in mind at least the first few issues of Doctor Strange have to take place before the first arc of Invincible Iron Man, as Strange references there that magic is becoming unreliable.

Silver Surfer! This one might cause a bit of trouble...

If you want to get super-technical about it, the last few pages of Silver Surfer (2014) #15 take place immediately after Secret Wars, not that that matters for placement purposes.

But as far as the 2016 series goes:

#1-6 take place over the course of a week or two, at some point when the ANAD Avengers already exist; it's also after Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #1 (since Horizon University has that name). The Thing is commuting between Earth and space, more or less. The Baxter Building is now the Parker Industries building, and the old Avengers Mansion is now a theme hotel (as seen in Uncanny Avengers #6, by which time it's also been that for a while).

#7-9 are standalones that don't seem to be tied to anything else, and take some time.

In #10, the Surfer (with Dawn) meets Galactus for the first time since he became the Lifebringer.

#11-14 begin "three months, two weeks, four days" since the Surfer and Dawn were on Earth in #6, and then there are time-travel shenanigans.

The problem is that when Scout shows up in Howard the Duck #8, she notes that Galactus is the Lifebringer now, "and after you left, the Silver Surfer had a talk with me. He's letting me keep my power, thank god, but he convinced me to not pursue Galactus anymore."

But note that she doesn't say what order those happened in! So, possibility A is that, during that 4-hour break in HtD #5, Ultimates 1-2 happen and Galactus becomes the Lifebringer; after Howard leaves, the Surfer and Scout have their conversation, the Surfer goes back to wherever he left Dawn (and misses the big news), and then Scout finds out that Galactus is the Lifebringer now, then goes to find Howard in HtD #8, although everything from when Howard goes through the Nexus to when Scout shows up again seems to take place in the duration of a single sunset.

Possibility B is that since the Nexus is not just a space warp but a time warp, it takes Howard to Bev's place in Maine *at some point in his relatively near future*. Which means that there's a time jump between pages 18 and 19 of #5, during which Ultimates #1-2 happen, then Silver Surfer #10, then the Surfer and Scout have their conversation, and THEN Scout comes to find Howard in HtD #8. That just requires Howard not to appear anywhere else during the time jump.

Yep - you're right.! i haven't yet completely jelled up my list with what we have going here, as this is a work in progress. I have Dr Strange 1-3 before Iron Man 2 (13-20) - 6, but i think they're too far down my list. Is it possible to move Dr Strange 1-2 & Int'l Iron Man 2 (13-20) - 8 further up the list we have going here, maybe to just after Contest of Champions 6.? We don't have much of a gap for Tony's four week absence..

I'm not sure why we have Spider-Man 2 is split up at pages 19/20.. i have ASM 1-5 occuring together.. issue 3 has the opening of Parker Industries at the Baxter Building, so needs to be early in the scheme.

ASM 6 has a three week gap between pages 7 & 8. A suggested placement for the first part is after Spider-Women Omega (27-30) [May 8th], with some other titles placed in here..

Spider-Women Omega (27-30) [May 8th]
Amazing Spider-Man 6 (1-7)
Scarlet Witch 1-2
Contest of Champions 1-6
All-New, All Different Avengers 1-3
FCBD 2015: All-New, All Different Avengers (1st Story)
Old Man Logan 1-4
Extraordinary X-Men 1-7
Daredevil 17-20 FBs
Amazing Spider-Man 6 (8-20) - 8
Amazing Spider-Man 2016 Annual 1/2 (1-13)
Amazing Spider-Man 2016 Annual 1/1
Amazing Spider-Man 2016 Annual 1/2 (14-15)
Amazing Spider-Man 2016 Annual 1/3
Amazing Spider-Man 9-11
Silver Surfer 1-6
Daredevil 1-5
Howard the Duck 1-5 (1-14)
Ultimates 1-2
Howard the Duck 5 (15-20), 8-11
Doctor Strange 1-2
Invincible Iron Man 2 (13-20)-8
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 7-14
Contest of Champions 6 (19-20)-10
A Year of Marvels: The Unstoppable 1/1 (first bit) [June 19th]
Invincible Iron Man 9-11 & 12 (1-17) (Tony Stark returns) {the editorial note that this is 3 weeks prior to the fall of Stark Tower can't be right}
Amazing Spider-Man 12 (after Tony Stark returns)

Yep - i have Silver Surfer (2014) # 15 as the very first comic listed after Secret Wars..

I've just posted a suggested revised section of the list, placing Silver Surfer 1-6 just prior to Howard the Duck 1-5, which i think covers all of the notes you've placed here. Although I've just realized this run begins with snow in Maine.. Also Dawn's sister tells her she has missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, her sister’s wedding, and their birthday.. We could put this down as an anomaly, but a re-read of issue 2 shows this issue could be broken down, allowing issue 1 and pages 3-4 of issue 2 to be placed much earlier, say immediately prior to A Year of Marvels: The Amazing 1/1 [February 14th] ..

Pages 1-2 are a flashback to ten years before Galactus arrived on Zenn-La. Pages 3 & 4 follow immediately after issue 1. Here Dawn's sister says her husband is away and won't be back for some weeks. (Surfer and Dawn meet him in issue 5). At the end of page 4, Dawn is going to show the Surfer the world from her perspective. Page 5 could easlily be taken as a series of flashbacks, during which Dawn and the surfer travel the world, taking any amount of time. At the end of page 5, Surfer detects the threat to Earth. Pages 6-20 lead directly into issues 3-6.

I like the sound of Possibility B, although either will probably work..

Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man are different titles! Spider-Man is focused on Miles. 1-2 (1-19) are set well before he joins the avengers and there's a completely different avengers roster. 2 (20)-5 are very continuous and lead almost directly into the civil war ii tie ins.

doh! *doh*

Okay, so we don't have Amazing Spider-Man on the board yet. ASM 1-5 has to go pretty early in the piece. In issue 1, PI has gone worldwide, Pete releases Webware worldwide, has his new Spider-Armor and toys courtesy of his Shanghai crew, the Uncle Ben Foundation is launched, Max Modell marries his boyfriend Hector, Horizon University is up and running in California. Issue 3 sees the opening of PI at the Baxter Building. This arc should probably go straight after Captain Marvel 1-5 and the back-up stories in issue 1..

Captain Marvel 1-5
ASM 1/4, 1/3, 1/6 [Jess 6 Months Pregnant]
ASM 1-5

Suggested placement for later issues given in previous post, above..

Mockingbird!

Mockingbird 1-5 take place over the course of "one month." Confirming my suspicion that Marvel's calendar doesn't work like ours, it appears to be a month with somewhere between 19 and 21 days in it. (But Mockingbird is also an unreliable narrator.)

Mockingbird 1 (3-10): "one month" before pp. 1-2. Howard the Duck, Hercules, Tony Stark are present.

["5 days" pass]

Mockingbird 2 continues to:
Mockingbird 1 (11-15): Hercules and Black Widow are present.

Mockingbird 3 (3-20, after a FB to Bobbi's youth): "two weeks and two days" ago, presumably that length of time before Mockingbird 1 (1-2). Continues to:
Mockingbird 1 (16-18): "one week" after #1 (11-15); Hercules, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are present.

Mockingbird 4 (1-3), "one week ago"

Mockingbird 4 (4-20), "roughly yesterday"; Clint/Hawkeye is present. Continues to:
Mockingbird 1 (1-2, 19-20): "one week" after pp. 16-18, "a.k.a. just now." Continues to:
Mockingbird 5: Howard the Duck and Miles/Spider-Man are present.

**********

The Ultimates!

Ultimates 3-6: Thanos can't appear anywhere between Secret Wars and this. (Potentially an issue for Jim Starlin's Thanos projects? But note that "Deadpool Vs. Thanos" happens right before Deadpool (2013) #1.)

Ultimates 7: After Standoff, leading fairly closely into Civil War II--probably more correctly part of that chronology.

Spider-Man/Deadpool!

I can already feel a headache coming on.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #7 is a "lost issue from 1968," which takes place mostly during the Democratic National Convention of that year, & involves the first meeting of Spider-Man and Deadpool. If it's even canonical, I'm guessing it goes somewhere around ASM@ 5.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #6 is somewhere between Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #1 and Spider-Man/Deadpool #1, per an editorial note.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #1-5 and 8 are more or less continuous, though some breaks could probably be found if necessary. They're after ASM (2015) #3, since Parker Industries is in the Baxter Building; also, the Mercs for Money are up and running. But Deadpool's face is healed by the end of #5, and doesn't go back to its familiar form until the end of the "Itsy Bitsy" storyline, which is in #9-10, 13-14 and 17-18.

#11 is the Penn & Teller issue, which is fine where it is (we don't see Deadpool's face); #12 is a Christmas issue that's definitely post-Civil War II; #15-16 are a crossover with the other two Deadpool titles. Augh.
