Spectacular Spider-Man #110

Post by bigmorty88 »

Quite a few comic resources list Jason Macendale (Jack O'Lantern / Hobgoblin) as a character appearing in Spectacular Spider-Man #110 (including MCP). I've read it twice, and I can't find him anywhere. Can someone help me out?

Thanks!

I'm not seeing him either. Was it revealed somewhere that Macendale was one of the man-on-the-street interviewees or something? Anyone know?

Also, welcome to the MCP, bigmorty88!

That's all I could really come up with too (that he might be one of the interviews), but I don't know him well enough to recognize him on sight. Here are the panels with those interview subjects, in case that helps anyone.

I flipped through his handbook entries (the '80s Deluxe edition and the more recent, current version) and I'm not seeing this mentioned anywhere.

Unless it's mentioned in ASM 279-286 or something that he was interviewed about the Sin Eater, I'm thinking PPSSM 110 probably needs to be deleted from his chronology.

The Amazing Spider-Man Official Index 2010, in the entry for ASM #254, states that Jack O'Lantern (Jason Philip Macendale Jr) appears next in PPSSM #110. Likewise, the entry for ASM #279 states that Jack O'Lantern last appeared in PPSSM #110. This is like playing Where's Wally. Maybe the issue number is wrong?

I can say, given the deadlines the Index team (of which I was one) was working under at the time, PPSSM 110 probably wasn't verified when that was put in. Basically, a (possible) mistake at the MCP was copied over into the Index. Mistakes happen, and sometimes mistake are propagated. At this point I'm fairly confident he doesn't appear in PPSSM 110, and that the Index is wrong in this case.

I also wondered if the issue number was wrong, and maybe Jack appeared in PPSSM 119 or something. I'm hoping to flip through some Spectaculars when I get back in from work. I'm curious how PPSSM 110 ended up in his chronology in the first place.

If it's a typo, then we can assume the before and after appearances are correct, meaning the placement is correct. Macendale appears next in ASM 279. Joe Robertson appears in PPSSM 117 after ASM 279. Therefore, I wouldn't bother checking beyond PPSSM 116. Also, it's a typo, it could be a transposition. Specifically, PPSSM 101 would also fall between ASM 254 & 279.
I can't promise you that things will improve, if we make changes;
I can promise you that they won't improve, if we don't.

Thanks! I’ve flipped through PPSSM 100-118 and haven’t found Macendale. I do see someone who could be him in PPSSM 109, but no one calls him by name, so probably not. I’m not going to arbitrarily declare some random mercenary to be an established character, after all. So yeah, I think PPSSM 110 needs to be removed from his chronology. But as long as we’re here…

I see we’re missing PPSSM 108-FB in Daredevil’s chronology. It’s Matt while still in law school. Also, Sin-Eater’s PPSSM 110-FB where he’s kicked out of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Also, we’re missing Jean’s body in PPSSM 108. She’s in her casket at her funeral. In addition, I think her brother should be changed to OP from BTS; he’s at the funeral, we just don’t see him on panel (their mother and step father are on panel, though, and we don’t have chronologies for them currently. Or for their birth father).

Also also, Charles Bronson appears in PPSSM 108 reading a newspaper article about vigilantes.

And, we’re missing Josie (of Josie’s bar) in PPSSM 109.

AND!, we’re entirely missing the Santa Claus burglar. *gasp*

We’re also missing the kid with the glowing hand, his parents and the social worker trying to help him.

So I ordered a copy of 101, to try to be helpful, but I see you're way ahead of me! :)

Thanks so much for checking into this! It's fun getting a chance to peek behind the curtain.
